   Die Hard 4 is a shakespearian MASTERPIECE compared to this utter piece of shit film. Go to a Monster Truck show and have some large Russian dude violently shake the shit out of you and it would be a way better time than watching this mind-numbingly/blowingly bad rotting garbage bag of a “movie”. half a star for Bruce Willis’ middle finger.

   Utter trash. I didn´t enjoy a single moment of this ugly, soulless, dull, and reprehensible train wreck of a movie except the few seconds Mary Elizabeth Winstead was on screen. “A Good Day to Die Hard” really puts “Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” and all the “Alien”/”Terminator”/Star Wars” sequels/prequels/reboots into perspective. THIS is the true rock bottom of a once-beloved franchise. Edit: I´ve written 1435 reviews, since I joined Letterboxd. This is my first 1/2 stars review. I think that says everything.

   A Good Day to Die Hard is the only film in the Die Hard series to be explicitly written as an entry in the series, which is ironic because it’s also the only one that really doesn’t feel like a Die Hard film. The plot sees John McClane travel to Moscow to find his son, only to find himself a passenger in the middle of some Russian gangster scheme or something. The story really isn’t interesting at all, but that doesn’t keep the film from trying to tell it.    Every time I load up Skyfall on blu ray it begins with a trailer for this movie that starts with Mary Elizabeth Winstead dropping off John McClane at the airport and I watched this whole damn thing and Mary Elizabeth Winstead isn’t in it at all and I started questioning whether that trailer was for another movie entirely. Turns out Mary Elizabeth Winstead is just completely absent from the version of the film I watched because despite being the “extended” cut it still saw fit to cut out one of the better performers in this entire series? Anyway, Die Hard 5 is awful.

    Rewatch with Daniel. Number 5 in the ‘Die Hard’ series. This one is an absolute NO from me. The idea of seeing John and his son go into action together sounded great, but the whole movie just doesn’t work for me. It didn’t have the same effect as the other films. It lacked the energy and felt flat. I was hoping to like it more rewatching it after so long, but I’m just not a fan of this one at all.

    fue un terrible cierre para la saga de Die Hard. en conclusion, las 4 primeras son increíbles (todas me encantaron para ser honesta, me cautivaron desde el primer momento) y esta simplemente es una decepción. Igual, muchísimas gracias a Bruce Willis por su honesto trabajo y es una pena lo que le pasó, de todas maneras tenemos esta saga para recordarlo forever. Y con esto damos por cerrada la saga y buenas noches. (probablemente nunca más vuelva a ver esta película, pero las otras definitivamente se repetirán).

    Finally finished this series and “meh” is the best I can come up with. I’m glad the franchise went back to the R rating it always thrived on, but there’s just little to no juice here, and barely any tension to be found, despite the father/son stuff and the wall-to-wall action. Thankfully, even the extended cut is only 100 minutes long. These older franchises really lose something when they become CGI festivals, and this is a very strong example.

    They didnt have to make another one if they didnt want to, because it shows they didnt give a shit anymore. Soulless movie and very shallow, I dont believe that ending or the relationship with his son. Even more dumb than Die hard 4 and somehow more boring and annoying, Bruce Willis had 3 catchphrases and they were all bad, I struggle to stay awake during this.

Now shake it up and turn everything into its exact opposite, and you get A Good Day to Die Hard—a dreadful, soulless sequel and a terrible counterpart to a far superior film that gets everything right.
