I rewatched A Bug’s Life (1998) on DVD tonight. It’s the most underrated and forgotten Pixar movie ever. Between this movie and Antz, I don’t care what movie is better. I like both movies. I too despise grasshoppers. The finale was so good. Everything else was just kinda mid I guess. Kevin Spacey as Hopper was outstanding. His and Flik’s monologues about superiority and hierarchy of their species was definitely the highlight and moral message of this movie. The second half absolutely outshines the first for sure. It was a bit slow and boring until they started to build the bird, from that moment on it just kept getting better.

Pixar’s second film. It’s about oppression, exploitation, intimidation, class hierarchy, authoritarianism, and collective resistance that happens to entirely feature talking bugs. It should be considered a Pixar classic, to be honest. By the way, it’s also entertaining, charming, and funny. All of that is important along with the wonderful animation, score, and voice performances.

So a really big thing happened days before this. My daughter decided to come a week early which means this was watched cuddled as a family in a hospital bed with a newborn. Counting this as Zelma’s first film on a technicality. With this huge life change I’ll have to slow my roll on my reviews, the next month or so will probably have shorter thoughts and more rewatches while I figure out the start of this fatherhood thing. Das Grosse Krabbeln war nie einer meiner Lieblings-Animationsfilme, aber ich erinnerte mich an zahlreiche unglaublich tolle Szenen und Lacher. Der Animationsstil ist für die späten 90er Jahre sehr angemessen, sieht aus heutiger Sicht jedoch natürlich sehr Laienhaft aus, gibt dem Film aber wiederum einen sehr speziellen Charme. Die Story selbst hat mich jedenfalls noch nie gross abgeholt und liess mich oft kalt, da habe ich mich lieber auf die spannenden Charaktere eingelassen und die Stoty einfach nur geschehen lassen. Ich fürchte jedoch, dass mir dies etwas den Spass an dem Film als Ganzes genommen hat.
