Netflix should make a sequel in which someone has to climb up Nirmal’s ginormous balls.

Sometimes you feel like you’re fucked. But when you say you are actually fucked, you are only like about 45% fucked. — Needlessly stylized and over-edited. Doesn’t trust its core idea enough to let the death-defying feats and cultural importance function on their own. Gotta cut it to fuck and reassemble it like a Bourne trailer. A real shame, since Nirmal has substantial natural charm, a sheen of sweetness with braggadocio peeking through. Too often has the tone of a fundraising video for a dude in a mechsuit beating progressively deadlier kaiju.

The easy thing go for a viewer to do while watching 14 Peaks is to stare in passive awe & amazement, believing Nims is made of superhuman stuff. It is more difficult to accept the fact that he is not so different. That he simply set himself to a task with conviction and did it. That is the reality. Nims is not an overnight wunderkind. He’s not even particularly young. Despite his amazing capacity to oxygenate his muscles and climb into death zones hungover & on zero sleep, he is the byproduct of arduous commitment and self-creation. From running 3-4 hours every morning with 75 pounds on his back to joining the Gurkha special forces, he systematically terraformed his body and disciplined…

Summitting all 14 8000 meter peaks in 6 months should have been the biggest news story in the world

It’s a shame how poorly this was made. Just so scattered. So rushed. No cohesive story. It shoulda been a series tbh. But then again maybe they condensed it so hard because maybe it’s sketch how they went about summiting these so quickly??? Idk I’m kinda sketch cause they just made it seem so simple when literally this is one of the greatest feats of all time. Regardless one of the most impressive / absurd things I’ve ever heard of. But now I’m just so confused. Need to go read more ASAP

“Hey guys, now we have climbed the 14 highest mountains in the world, right? Let’s be brutally honest. If this was done by some European or Western climber, the news would have been ten times bigger than this.” Finally the Nepalese getting the recognition they deserve in the mountaineering world instead of just being called Sherpas. A huge advancement!! Heck, without them, so many mighty mountains would not have been summitted. This is such a huge accomplishment and is absolutely mind-blowing. Climbing the 14 highest mountains in the world in less than 7 months? 🤯 the previous record is 7 years btw. Yeah, maybe this docufilm isn’t as suspenseful or thrilling as say Free Solo or The Dawn Wall, but it still deserves those 5 stars for all the reasons stated prior. I love me a mountaineering/climbing documentary!

watching this after everything that happened makes it feel like a completely different film. knowing that the man you’re watching push himself beyond every limit is no longer here is genuinely heartbreaking. it’s crazy that one day people will only be able to know nimsdai through footage like this, watching him climb, laugh, dream and live. this documentary feels like a memory now. Rest easy nims, your legacy will never be forgotten.

Nimsdai!! What a guy!! Sadly watching this after he passed away last month on Broad Peak, but damn was he an inspiration to say the least. Didn’t complain, didn’t leave anyone behind, didn’t give up and had fun. Bro was smoking cigarette’s on the base camp of K2 lmao. RIP!! “Giving up is not in the blood, sir. It’s not in the blood.” “When you say you are actually fucked, you are only like about 45% fucked.”

Slightly better than the “Beyond Possible” book — which is more motivational speaker material than introspective memoir — if only because we get to see the footage he and his team shot along the way. But since the movie is also produced by Purja, it still lacks the outside, unsanctioned perspective that might raise some questions and get us a little bit closer to what’s really going on with this guy. It remains a speedy, surface level look at someone…

as a documentary, extraordinarily well-done and paced and played up for the dramatics and heroism. You watch this and come out of it thinking “man if Nims Purja was white he might be able to take over the world in like a week, what the fuck” (something that I appreciated the movie focusing on, how much Nepalis have been left out of popular mountaineering history). The achievements he and the other climbers do are jaw-dropping, he’s one of the only…

I had to re watch as this as this great man (Nims purja) has sadly passed on the great mountain broad peak doing what he loves most. This is truly most inspiring documentary I’ve ever seen really showing what the human body and mind is capable of doing. Nims was a great man who risked his financial wellbeing, family relationships and his own life doing this mission to simply show the world that “Anything is possible”

I’m at a loss for words for so many reasons after seeing this. I should start by saying that I think we all have the urge to do what Nirmal “Nims” Purjal and his team did. I mean, who never thought about going up mountains, going skydiving or walking from your house to the other side of the world ? We have this need to feel alive, and for that we need to be exposed to danger to make us…

Inspiring and heartbreaking, especially because I watched it weeks after his death. Some things take courage and passion to achieve your goals, but there are goals that are, and I don’t want to underestimate them, a little unnecessary. Continuing to go somewhere while putting your life and other people’s lives at risk, creating even more pollution, and encouraging more people to do the same. And even worse, having a sick mother and a family member to take care of. I’ve never understood the detachment and ego of men.

“Giving up is not in the blood sir” ~ Nims Dai Purja. I believe with one hundred percent conviction that these Sherpa men could chew through iron, walk barefoot across lava, and conquer any mountain put in front of them. There is something almost beyond human about their strength, resilience, and sheer determination. This is truly one of the most inspiring things I have ever seen. What a man. What a visionary. What a remarkable soul. Nims Purja not only…

Great achievement, but too bad the story was told like a trailer. It doesn’t develop either the culture or the sport of mountaineering, and that’s a pity. I’d love to know more about how Nirmal’s team climbed 8000m peaks so fast.

Watching this after the death of Nirmal Purja a month ago does change the tone of this movie a bit, but it’s still an incredibly cool documentary to view. Mountaineering fascinates me – the idea of embarking on a physical and mental quest to be on this planet where very few humans have gone. That is pretty cool. This documentary is straightforward but it does shed light on some important notes when it comes to mountaineering, such as the constant…

“Most of us are forgetting that from the beginning of our life we are approaching death” What a statement, basically in life you can live in fear but also instead turn those fears into your bitch. Very inspiring documentary and has put Nepal on the map for me, aswell as a new found appreciation of the work of the Nepalese Sherpas. Edit: it’s the 23 so a couple days after and my brother just told me the main guy just died a week ago RIP BRO🥀.

A lively documentary! Great cinematography and storytelling. I do wish it didn’t feel so much like peak hopping and went more into the strategy and details of each mountain, the course, conditions, etc. It would have better showcased the effort needed to break all these mountaineering records.

GIVING UP IS NOT IN THE BLOOD SIRRRR
- Synopsis
- In 2019, Nepalese mountain climber Nirmal “Nims” Purja set out to do the unthinkable by climbing the world’s fourteen highest summits in less than seven months. (The previous record was eight years). He called the effort “Project Possible 14/7” and saw it as a way to inspire others to strive for greater heights in any pursuit. The film follows his team as they seek to defy naysayers and push the limits of human endurance.
