Beverly Hills Cop became the most successful cinematic showcase for Eddie Murphy’s talents, but it wasn’t designed for him. It was conceived as a straight-forward Sylvester Stallone vehicle, and it remained that way until just a few weeks before filming began, when Stallone dropped out and Murphy subbed in at the last minute. A good fresh return to the first two OG movies! They really hated the third movie with a passion. It was cool to see Eddie Murphy return as Axel Foley again. It was cool to see Judge Reinhold as Billy Rosewood come back again. It was also great to see John Ashton as John Taggart, and Paul Reiser as Jeffrey come back in this especially when there absence was huge in Beverly Hills Cop III (1994). I really wish they had a little more screen time, but I’m also not surprised at all. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Kevin Bacon are great additions to bring in this. Perfectly adequate paint-by-numbers legacy sequel. Biggest problem is they’ve almost totally sanded down Foley’s rebellious streak, basically the cornerstone of the series and the character.

Someone check on Eddie Murphy’s back because his ability to carry the typical Netflix legacy sequel slop is impressive. Movie is funny! Even if it’s solely exploiting our nostalgia or forgetting what made the original Beverly Hills Cop special in the first place.

It’s good. It doesn’t recapture the magic of the original but it isn’t a lifeless mess like 3. It plays it safe. That mostly is good because you get what you want from the series. Eddie is having fun and everyone seems excited to be there Joseph Gordon Levitt is a welcome addition. But Axel’s daughter is too stiff and one note. She drags things down a bit. I wish we got more time with the original trio together. But when they’re on screen it’s fun. It’s not trying to reinvent things. It’s just trying to deliver a good time and it does. It’s a Netflix original. If you go in expecting a Netflix movie you’ll be pleasantly surprised. If you expect the original you’ll be disappointed. It’s a good time but no classic.

They did it. The balance of the old and new was perfect. Instead of falling into that legacy sequel trap. They just made a sequel. It’s not the same or trying to be a replica but it’s full of nostalgia hits. These guys are much older and it’s acknowledged they have changed. The newer cast isn’t “new versions” they just put characters who compliment the originals next to them that have an actual story. In a movie that feels like it can easily go off the rails it never does. Taylour Paige and JGL really kill it. Plus MAUREEN!

This gets a 4 because I saw it right after 3 which was soooo bad. This gets everything right that 3 got wrong. Good villain. New characters were interesting and had good chemistry with Murphy. He was great as a more mature Foley who still pulls the same shit. Decent villain and good use of Reinhold and Ashton. Kind of hope they do another one.

Yet another in the recent trend of “we do not need this sequel 30 years after the last one.” That said, it’s actually pretty good. Just great to hang out with Axel, Taggart, Rosewood, Bronson Pinchot and Paul Reiser. Just wish we could do something new and original in this ballpark.

“Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” nutzt das Axel-F-Thema von Faltermeyer in unzähligen Varianten in Endlosschleife, so dass sich die Vermutung aufdrängt, dass der Film genau deswegen so heißt. Und natürlich dauert er 2 Stunden, wirkt zwischen den durchaus gelungenen Action-Setpieces stets wie eine fernsehhaft abgedrehte Seifenoper und lässt sogut wie jeden Gag versanden.

This was much better than expected. The performances at the beginning by the old characters are pretty bad. Eddie does a good job though. Once he gets into the role and you see how he’s kind of outdated himself the movie starts to pick up. Kevin Bacon mades a terrible bad guy though, so that wa a miscast. I’d say 2nd or 3rd best one of the series.

as a movie, this was NOT Beverly Hills Cop. but I liked it. they did a decent job of taking the classic Axel Foley character and placing him in a modern day. Eddie does NOT look 30+ years older. i liked the call back nostalgia bait scenes, better than Happy Gilmores attempt. speaking of Happy Gilmore… Im pretty sure that was Shooter Mcgavin official connecting these two franchises.

Schönes Legacy Sequel mit den alten Bekannten als auch mit tollen Ergänzungen im Cast rund um Kevin Bacon und Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Dazu kommt eine Geschichte die man so oder so ähnlich natürlich schon mal gesehen hat. Die Action ist ab und zu mal zu digital und wesentlich übertriebener (Helikopter) als in den anderen Teilen. Trotzdem bleibt das alles angenehm unterhaltsam und geht gut rein. Am Ende werde ich mich zwar nicht mehr an viel erinnern aber das ist schon alles in Ordnung.

All your favourites from the Beverly Hills Cop franchise show up for this sequel. The humour hits and the soundtrack from the original is here for everyone to enjoy. A nice touch was Axel’s relationship with his daughter which gave the movie more layers than I expected. The action was constant throughout so the movie flowed smoothly. Kevin Bacon’s character played a good bad guy as well. My only complaint is I wanted more Judge Reinhold. All in all it was an energetic, fun and nostalgic joyride. I give it two thumbs up.

Though it relies heavily on nostalgia of the original three films, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F does provide a good amount of comedic moments though mostly from lead Eddie Murphy who embraces the classic 80s/90s, molding well the modern era (i.e. in the 2020s). Not the best comedy of 2024, but I’m glad to have it as my 1000th review under my Reviews By Cammixed banner.
