It’s just a mess of a film but it does make me laugh at the stupid stuff. Like giraffes in the snow getting lifted by a helicopter.

I don’t think the big Russian guy launching his son onto the ark before falling to his death was meant to be funny but it’s really funny. This plays well as a comedy actually.

Divide this film’s title by its running time and you get a pretty close approximation of its IQ. And mine apparently as I rewatched this drivel in its entirety.

I understand if everyone wants to kick my ass for this but this is honestly one of my favourite films of all time. It’s one of very few that I can watch over and over again and never grow tired of, even though I’m fully aware that it’s severely unrealistic (NASA branded it “absurd”) and probably politically questionable too (mainly because, despite continued assertions from certain characters that the act of selling tickets for placement on the arks is inhumane, most of the people who end up on the ships are billionaires anyway). Truthfully, my biggest criticism is that this film, at 158 minutes, isn’t long enough. I’m also more than slightly peeved that the spin-off series never happened 😢…

How you get cuckolded and then reverse cuckold in the midst of the end of the world💀💀💀💀 scary movie, too real, first rewatch since this came out. Trumpie would’ve booked it on the Air Force One immediately, he would not stick around with the beggars. Hopefully this doesn’t happen😁

2012 is loud and epic and dumb and I love every second of it (except when that guy is grinded by gears that is just hard to watch). Unlike most other disaster movies, this one actually has the scale and visual ambition to feel like an actual apocalypse.

This movie sucks more than it should. This movie should be exactly the kind of movie I like but no it actually sucks. There are moments that REALLY do it for me, and thats because there were ARTISTS doing that CGI. But then we’re back to business. The business of boring dialogue by boner dads. How many fathers had to be in this movie?? TOO MANY FATHERS.

What a pleasant apocalypse movie! Great all around. Can’t hate the cheese when the asshole Russian gets to go skydiving while saving his seed, wife’s new man is conveniently removed from the picture via meat grinder, and the worst that happens to the protagonist’s savior is a bum leg. Even the dog lives! Hope you didn’t spay. Bonus: woody only has to work for half a movie but steal the show and paycheck!

No clue how I feel about it overall. Parts are a very fun disaster movie, others are potent and heart breaking. Seems like they were unsure where exactly they wanted to take it. The main family and their story is the least interesting, and goddam Gordon and Tamara deserved better. Characters with significantly less screen time got longer and more impactful death scenes. Also the climax of trying to close the hydraulic door is entirely too long.

A
by all objective standards this movie is subpar and my review extremely biased. in the love song of j. alfred prufrock, poet t.s. eliot writes that he has measured out his life with coffee spoons. well so have i, only with books and movies- some downright godawful, others remarkably life changing- but all of them, cumulatively, a qualitative measure of life’s progression against different eras in time. 2012 is no different. having an adhd brain with a patchy autobiographical memory…

Re watched this while swapping batteries in my ps4 controller. Cutsie little drama about being kind and helping people. While also having some sick disaster backgrounds play out. Although even the moral messaging kinda falls flat and contradicts its self more than once. Pretty convenient that the step dad dies AND the Russian oligarch makes a heroic sacrifice huh.
-
S
the amount of luck this family has is actually insane

You know what…better then I thought The ending was really dragged out thought And in my opinion had pacing problems but overall a suprisingly good watch

Idc how negative the reviews are or how bad the movie truly is. It’s so fun and such a “disaster” lmao. I used to watch this with my grandmother every week as a kid. Made me think everything that has happened in the movie will actually happen in 2012. This movie is such a core memory. I miss watching this on the laptop with my grandmother trying to connect it to my home speakers which would take up half the day for some reason.

Le film n’est pas spécialement beau et est la catharsis de tous les clichés sur les films de fin du monde. Mais au moins, c’est divertissant. Et comme on est en 2026, je suppose qu’on a bien survécu à l’apocalypse en 2012.

Final Score: 64/100. Apocalyptic August (Movie 9/12): ———————————————– To be 100% up-front, this is a movie I have massive, massive nostalgia for. As far as I can remember, this was the first film I ever actively had hype for leading up to release. Years later though… while I still like it as a guilty pleasure, it’s not quite as epic as I once thought. In many ways, it was always inevitable that this film was going to be made. Roland…

I didn’t realize what I was sleeping on back in the day, as I totally should have watched this in 2012. Something about apocalyptic dooms day movies makes them so fun and relaxing to watch. There are a lot of good action sequences here, showing various disasters across the world, showing characters hitting every problem possible while trying to survive, and a really cute puppy. Its just a fun and simple ride and you dont need to ask for much more.

Only thing good about this is John Cusack. I had an odd obsession with this movie when it came out when I was 9-10 years old. In terms of world disaster movies though it’s up there. Better than Greenland, and especially Moonfall. It’s something at least.

This is the kind of movie that you can tell was directed by the guy who directed Independence Day and that’s not neccessarily a bad thing. A film that’s as epic in scale as it is occasionally dumb, 2012 is a disaster film that tries to outdisaster every other disaster film to varying degrees of success. Where it achieves greatness or flounders poorly vary from scene to scene, but fuck I had a fun time with it, even with that…

2 stars for the second half of the movie that is kind of fun. The script is genuinely trash. The paper thin link between Chiwetel Ejiofor and John Cusack (can’t remember their character names already) is quite, quite mental. They built up Gordon, the step dad, so much and did him dirty when he just gets crushed and dies. Brief cry, that’s it. Built up for 2 hours 15 minutes no less. Then “where have you been all my life” to her ex-husband 5 minutes later… bare in my 7 billion people have just died. Anyway, pretty funny.

The End of the World Goes Down Easy 2012 is a good old-fashioned disaster movie with a strong cast and some impressively staged destruction. The large-scale effects and disaster sequences still provide plenty of spectacle, while John Cusack, Chiwetel Ejiofor and the rest of the cast do a solid job carrying the human side of the story. The story itself is straightforward and doesn’t offer much that really sticks with you afterwards. What works surprisingly well is the pacing -…
