Anderson’s most boring and overcomplicated movie. You could cut half the cast and half the scenes and basically nothing would change.

CHARACTERS As Schubert says to Augie, “you’re doing good”. Thank God, Wes Anderson realised Tom Hanks exists. PLOT Storyful, deep, life-questioning, Diverse. “All my photos come out- Gives you an Existential crisis” (Also I never fully understood the play) AUDIO & VIDEO Expansive, Interstellar, Expensive (I am talking about the Production offcourse), Cute. DIRECTION Two Words- Wes Anderson

i don’t know how I feel about it. Wes Anderson holds so much aura because this cast is stacked. i did fall asleep during it but that was not the movie’s fault

Asteroid City felt like it was carefully building toward something that never arrived. A lot of reviews on here call it “Wes Anderson’s most Wes Anderson film yet.” Maybe I’m just not a seasoned enough cinephile (this is only my third Anderson movie) but I sincerely hope the rest of his filmography isn’t like this.

I can’t believe I’m saying this because I love Wes Anderson so much but I don’t get it. I think I need to do a rewatch.

My mom’s favorite Watched with my parents, their second time after them telling me to watch it for years. We’ve been working our way through the Wes Anderson filmography together. A big time rewatch movie: a film that, much like life, becomes much more enjoyable when you’re along for the ride on the freight train, freight train. THE ROADRUNNER

This was pretty good. I love Wes Anderson so it came as no surprise to me that I loved this too. Everything about it is as very good I just didn’t really connect with it on an emotional level. Overall pretty good and finally seen Wes Anderson’s full filmography

On rewatch i’m just so conflicted on this. Act 1 is a fun setup and introduction to the story, act 3 is a great climax where everything fits into place and makes sense, and act 2 just kinda exists? I feel like the sense of isolation the characters are meant to be in by act 3 doesnt really make sense, beacuse they’ve only been here a week, and act 2 only taking place a day after act 1 doesnt really…

Lots of famous actors. Love the story even though there isn’t really one, but not even thing needs a point.

Wes Anderson does it again. Ending was a bit confusing but the alien is just so freaking cute

I mean I could watch this film all day. I love the retro colour pallete wes Anderson chooses to combine and mix they build a extra layer of depth and wonder to asteroid city. I found the story so interesting and beautiful to watch unfold and it had me fully hooked from start to finish. The score is so magical and fully captivates the majestic and uncanny beauty of asteroid city. This is Wes Andersons overlooked masterpiece and ill always love this movie with all my heart.

well this is not my cup of tea, very boring, but very beautiful

Welp…this was fun. There something about wes andersons movies that i adore. His style feels like a play. (Ironic)
-
A
that alien was the weirdest looking dude ive ever seen very very bizarre movie, the plot started boring until the alien appeared then it got super interesting and cool. the plot was also a tad bit confusing and strange. it was pretty cool but pretty strange and i liked that

Wes doesn’t kill a pet in this one

I believe this is the kind of movie you can’t say you watched until you’ve seen it three times, so I guess I haven’t watched it yet? Every frame is so calculated and every transition happens at the speed of thought, it’s pleasantly overstimulating. The color palette showed my colorblind self imageries I’ve never seen before and beauty in colors I’ve always found ugly. Humans are so cute.
-
S
first wes anderson movie i’ve seen in recent memory the colors and flat shots were a fun director’s choice, and the behind-the-scenes and play cuts back and forth were fun. alexandre desplat my GOAT on the soundtrack. it’s like a little love letter to creatives and their creative projects. a movie for creative procrastinators “you can’t wake up asleep if you don’t fall asleep.”

I
no he visto una pelicula tan d wes anderson como esta tu
-
S
I liked it a lot it was just a little too neon to watch at night
-

Usual craftsmanship, but I did not like the meta-backstage foreground. Didn’t work. Tried to blur the lines and take pages from Synecdoche, New York. Didn’t work; doesn’t have the substance to walk the walk. Good characterisation, taking advantage of a predictably excellent cast. In particular Steve Carell and Jake Ryan were very entertaining. Otherwise, this is an amalgamation not worth deconstructing.

D
Very WesAndersoney, but it accepts and emphasizes its artificialness. The whole film is assembled under the premise that nothing is real, and all is the product of the creative process. In a way, this is Grand Budapest Hotel — which was a series of nested stories told from memory — but invented rather than remembered. The color grade was rather grating; I read an explanation that this was meant to look like Technicolor 3-strip process, but this just looks like…

It’s just so good… so much to unpack. Chaos in order, uncertainty in the future, the implication of art to the real world, the creative process, death, grief. I could go on and on, but I think the film is more about questions than answers. Every performance works, the sets work (duh), the complicated plot works. This is officially my second favorite Anderson film.

C
fun and campy, more life and character than some of his other recent projects. I think the play aspect did somewhat complicate things in a way that didn’t really further serve the plot at times

10/10. Great movie.

how am I supposed to understand on the first watch

I wove in and out of understanding the plot/play/meta movie, but the set design && cinematography && the sneaky quick blink and you miss it stop motion is so MF captivating that I didn’t mind

first of all, craaaaazy line up of actors uve got there wtheck. hmmmm i have kind of mixed feelings abt this tbh, i am a huge huge huge fan of wes anderson’s works but this one put me on the borderline of whether i love it or not. one thing i love the most is, there are so many characters in this and you cannot figure out their depths and that keeps you on toes. as usual, there are several…

Fantastic film and a stiller cast. There truly isn’t any one like Wes Anderson and his work.

Asteroid City is unlikely to win Wes Anderson many new converts, but those who respond to his signature style will find this a return to immaculately arranged form.

Probably the peak of postmodern film in America. I hope this one day gets the recognition it deserves.

I guess this was a 20% understanding 80% vibe When does the weirdness become pretentious and isolating instead of inclusive and original?

“I prefer to play abused, tragic alcoholics, and one day, I’ll probably be discovered lifeless in an overflowing bathtub with an empty bottle of sleeping pills spilled all over the floor, but the sad thing is I’m actually a very gifted comedienne” I get it

I think Maya Hawke has seen stranger things than an alien stealing an asteroid
-
S
I expected to like this less, but the second watch made me appreciate this movie more than I did the first time. I know all of his movies are so easily identified as his just because of his unique style but this one is so epitomistic in my eyes. I remember thinking this movie was going to be a much bugger deal than it ended up being. The insane star-studded cast plus a director who had been gaining a lot…

I hate it but I love it

Both me and my boyfriend have watched a bunch of Wes Anderson flicks but fortunately some that I have watched he hasn’t and viceversa! So I get the pleasure of showing him this one. He didnt particularly love it, but I still think that Asteroid City is a stellar Wes Anderson film, and a stellar film in general, in all aspects. It remains my second favorite Wes Anderson movie, surpassed only by The Royal Tenenbaums. I will never understand those…
