The charisma of this cast carries it to its rating, because plot wise it’s as thin as can be. And for the majority of the movie, a lot of the characters take actions that make them insanely dislikeable. It has a lot in terms of relatability and messaging that meant it could’ve been something more significant than it is, and it doesn’t always portray itself with the most finesse, but That Awkward Moment speaks to the unavoidable unpredictability of your 20’s in a surprisingly effective way. The script doesn’t have the same charm as its core trio at times, but it’s an enjoyable ride and it’s certainly crazy to see the trajectory of all three of their careers in the last 12 years since this, especially Oscar winner Michael B. Jordan.

Somehow a movie with two titles has neither that work That Awkward Moment (or Are We Officially Dating?) is the perfect encapsulation of the power of movie stars. The script is roughly constructed and most of the shots are plain – but the charisma of Zac Efron, Michael B. Jordan and Miles Teller will the film to watchability. In 2014, there were few actors with this much sauce and even though their characters are thinly veiled and mostly bad guys, the audience can’t help by be interested in their journey.
