Cannot shake the fact that this is a DVD bargain-bin Die Hard ripoff framed around Christmas, but with that being said, I enjoyed this one way more than that feeling should’ve allowed me. David Harbour gives a pretty notable performance in this, and I dunno, I can’t bring myself to be too harsh on this one. Far from perfect, though. but why doesn’t Santa just call Jim Hopper to stop the terrorists? Is he stupid?

Glad they finally got around to making a sequel for this, which I will definitely be watching! This had no business turning out as well as it did. It’s funny, has genuine heart, but it’s also better than most Hollywood action movies nowadays because it actually allows its action-lead to be physically injured, in danger, and emotionally/psychologically vulnerable.

Okay TBH I thought this movie ate and left no crumbs. Literally the only thing I would change was at times the acting was a little cheesy and cringe but I thought it was fun as fuck and very entertaining. I was going in there with low expectations and thought it’d be shitty but I liked the premise and surprisingly a lot of the characters, even the bad guys, were likable to me. I think sometimes going into a movie with low expectations is the best way to do it because I was pleasantly surprised with it. The violence was pretty sick.

It’s fine. Pretty enjoyable in the moment but after, eh. The story’s paper thin and the humor’s whatever but the action was pretty fun. Wasn’t a big fan of the music either. It’s really whimsical, which I get they were probably doing that to evoke other, more wholesome Christmas movies but it got pretty distracting and made some of the jokes fall flat even more. The R-rated Home Alone bit was one of my favorites though, I got kinda giddy at that part. Can’t believe I hadn’t seen that done yet.

It’s pretty fun but I wouldn’t watch it again and the sequel looks worse. A Santa Claus action movie is a fun idea but the violence feels gimmicky and shoehorned in instead of a natural part of the moving even though it’s in the title. Also I feel like these types of movies just write a gritty script and throw a Christmas skin over it instead of making the holiday a genuine theme baked into the film.

Do I have some bit of skepticism with a Violent Night sequel despite the previous film already being good as a one off story? A little bit yes. But from what I’ve seen in the trailer it doesn’t look so bad. I’m going in with an open mind while also not expecting it to be exactly on the same level as the first film unless it does something insane to warrant a sequel being better than the first. We will see how the sequel turns out soon, can’t wait to see it on theaters.

Ho-ho-ho-holy shit! This movie was so much fun. I don’t think I’ve ever heard my dad laugh that hard at a movie and this is absolutely making it onto my “watch EVERY Christmas season” list. David Harbour reminds me of a younger Harrison Ford in a lot of random ways and he needs to be recognized as a really great leading man.
