Anything that can make me tear up gets 5 stars. Why is Carey Mulligan so good at acting? We don’t deserve this woman. Life is so temporary yet we still find ways to take things for granted. The human condition is so exhaustive, but now I’m just rambling. Moral of the this review is tell someone you love them if you really do love them 🥂 Carey Mulligan Ranked

“You waited till 3:15 on the last day of school.” “Right, yeah.. I never said I had good timing.” This movie was so sad and the cast all did their best. The story was emotional and heartbreaking. I really didn’t expect Aaron’s character to die so quickly..💔 I just found that the fact that Rose, having to deal with losing her boyfriend so tragically, then being stuck with a child, his child, as a constant reminder really sad. I think that part was well written. To be honest, I felt bad for a lot of the characters. Bennet’s death all affected them differently and the way they handled his death was all different too. His mother was extremely torn up…

Grace wakes up crying remembering her son Bennett, who just died in an accident, Allen spends his night sleepless while Bennett’s brother Jack is filled with his own guilt that he didn’t get to say him goodbye as he was high that night. But in all this Rose comes knocking in with a news that she is pregnant with Bennett’s baby. Directed by Shana Feste, The Greatest provides a story that feels like it needed a little time of its own to get what it wanted. It shows how everyone is dealing with their grief and at moments it is shown excellently. The scene between Grace and Allen in the hospital where they both are arguing about the baby and…

today is Mulligan Monday. and it sure as hell wasn’t the best choice to watch The Greatest. to begin with, Carey Mulligan seems to have inhaled helium while doing her spotless American accent. was it because she’s young? acting twee? personifying the Girl-Next-Door archetype? controlling her English accent from coming out like a fart? no one knows. still, it doesn’t remove the fact that her performance is good. with a female character whose sole purpose is to grieve her dead almost-boyfriend, she does what she could to put some volume on her role (plus, she’s a cutie-pie). although I lightly applaud the effort, the little background her character has is too underdeveloped. it’s only there so she can eventually turn-up…

A textbook example of melodrama. Its soppiness is certainly played well with the actors like a ball of putty, making for some decently emotional scenes. But then you get the awkward scene of Brosnan’s “floodgates” opening, and you sink back into your seat. I liked how genuine the love felt between Rose and Bennett, even though they spent a short amount of time together. Rose is the sun in all of this, yet Bennett’s family is too grief-stricken to really…

Part of The Complete “500 Greatest Movies Of All Time” Project [REDUX] THE CATALYST First off, I’d like to complain publicly that it is downright impossible to get a hold of this movie legally. this week on my hyperfixation for Aaron Taylor-Johnson: The Greatest First of all, what a cast to think about it! Carey Mulligan I wish I was you lol. Was it worth it to watch a 1,5 hour movie only for Aaron to be in it for like 10 min? No, but anyway And what in the Michael Shannon/Aaron Johnson universe?! #24 of Aaron Taylor-Johnson

The Greatest had a chance to be a good movie but it kept shooting from outer space and missing. The performances of these actors were outweighed by subpar writing. Many plot points were built up just to be abandoned. The entire Brewer family completely change their behavior towards Rose at the end without showing development throughout the movie. All of the sudden when Grace talks to Jordan Walker she doesn’t hate Rose. All of the sudden Pierce Brosnan has a heart attack and can talk about Bennett again. Nothing felt built, just rushed- especially towards the end. Also what the hell happened to Zoë Kravitz character???

honestly a very sweet movie. it tackles the many different forms that grief takes shape and it exemplifies how hard it is to appreciate something so sweet but so short lived while trying not to become jaded by the trauma of its ending. also susan sarandons bouts of crying when she wakes up and remembers the horror was too real (been there😝).

Watching this at work, while actually working, with no sound on and the tv maybe ten meters away, and only occasionally reading the closed captions, is perhaps not the greatest way to experience The Greatest? But what I saw was enough to note this is not the greatest of anything. A major failure on all accounts, a call-back to 90s melodramas starring… Susan Sarandon. She was also in a 2002 movie called Moonlight Mile, with Jake Gyllenhaal in a part…

There is something so strange about the instrumentals in this movie like the songs are good and then the instruments in the background are like a kidz bop soundtrack. Also it’s kinda crazy that they made Jenny lind like a home wrecker when I don’t think she gaf’d about pt Barnum irl from what I remember researching back in the day. Something is so strange but so amazing about this movie tho LMAO I THOUGHT I WAS REVIEWING THE GREATEST SHOWMAN MY BAD

I liked this movie. Sometimes I prefer when movies are just simple, family drama, rather than anything extraordinary. This movie honestly felt straight out of the ’90s as opposed to 2009, which is a good thing for me, because I like the old school vibes.

The performances are largely on the money, but the screenplay is so full of holes and cul-de-sacs that the film feels false and falls flat. The biggest conceit is that we can believe that Carey Mulligan’s character comes from a deprived background and has no one to turn to when she is so well grounded and confident. It’s really hard to believe that this script was filmed as is, I mean the party scene, wtf was that for?

Jake Gyllenhaal) 😉

Well, this movie provided, on one hand, one of the sweetest and saddest love stories I have ever seen and, on the other hand, a solid depiction of 2 parents losing their child with some strong performances by Susan Sarandon and Pierce Brosnan. So, the material was pretty good but, unfortunately, Shana Feste, in her directing debut, never really managed to mix these 2 stories together. Indeed, for some reason, she basically forced these parents and this pregnant teenage girl…

Allen and Grace Brewster (Pierce Brosnan and Susan Sarandon) lose their eldest son in a car accident. A girl the family doesn’t know, Rose (Carey Mulligan), survives. It turns out she is carrying the son’s child. The girl has no family of her own, so the Brewsters let her live with them. Grace does not accept the new member of the family, while Allen finds some comfort in her presence. He looks forward to the child; his wife does not.…

This movie came out in 2009, but I don’t ever remember it showing in theaters. Perhaps it only made it to DVD, not sure. In any case, I stumbled upon it via Netflix and was pleasantly surprised that my new female favorite, Carey Mulligan is in it along with long time stalwarts, Pierce Brosnan and Susan Sarandon. There is no question the film by young director Shana Feste is long on emotional manipulation and melodrama, but it also feels real…

For some reason, Susan Sarandon just gets roles wherein she is grieving for someone. She does it well but The Greatest does not appear to be her best moment. The characters, the music feel automated in their mourning. It’s as if they’re under a spell and they do not feel anything authentic. The effect is kind of funny. Thank God, Carey Mulligan still has charm to offer. Fresh from her breakout role and Oscar nom, her face and her voice offer brightness and sweetness that the rest of the film refuses to have.
