Mulholland Drive man, an ethreal Lynchian fantasy mystery with hints of Rashomon and Life Of Pi type shit. Like i dont even know how to describe it properly, but man is it good. Lynch just does so much shit here that may look easy but is actually hard as shit. With this film he makes a lot of the regular shit so ominous, dreamlike, and/or creepy. From the spectacular diner scene, the girls’ visit to “dianes” home, the curtain void…

“It’s all recorded. It is all a tape. It is an illusion.” Believing in fiction because reality is so painful. The tragic actress mirrored inverse of the male fantasy LA noir nightmare of Lost Highway. One just as much conversation with Lynch’s lifelong affinity for classic Hollywood, with the allusions to Kiss Me Deadly, Detour and Vertigo (though still certainly present in the blonde-brunette doppelgänger identity crisis/sexual obsession + déjà vu structure) expanded to include Sunset Boulevard’s poisonous depiction of the broken dreams and deaths left in the industry’s wake (also: the title, duh) and The Wizard of Oz’s attempt to escape from reality via wish-fulfillment fantasy, that of course in Lynch’s version goes horrifically wrong and ends up with…

“Hey pretty girl, time to wake up.” There was a time not too long ago when if you asked me what my favorite movie was I might have told you Mulholland Drive. There’s a lot going on in the film and I certainly won’t claim to understand all of it (something I might have done when it was my “favorite movie”), but I do have a reading of it that seems to answer a lot of the questions it poses, so here goes. No specific spoilers, but I’m definitely gonna, like, explain what I think is happening in the movie, and generally if you haven’t seen Mulholland Drive you really ought to see it as blind as possible, so proceed…

★★★★★ Mulholland Drive feels like a dream that slowly realizes it’s actually a nightmare. David Lynch takes Hollywood and turns it into this weird, beautiful, completely disorienting maze. You think you’re watching a mystery at first, and then the movie starts pulling the floor out from underneath you. Naomi Watts is incredible. The difference between Betty and the person she becomes later is genuinely insane to watch. Her performance is probably the biggest reason the movie works as well as…

Finally got round to watching Mulholland Drive and wow. What the hell did I just watch? 😂 I definitely don’t have every detail figured out, but that honestly might be part of what makes this film so special. There’s just something about it that completely pulls you in, even when you have no idea what’s going on. I already know I need to watch this a couple more times to properly take everything in. David Lynch really did his thing…

Was able to find new details this time and get more lost. I subconsciously focused on the sound further, without needing to connect everything. The editing and cinematography compliment the sound along with its design, utilising their coherent principles to create incredible immersion. After the opening car stops, cross cutting interjects but is accompanying the dangerous situation. Normally cross cutting between perspectives is satisfying, but here it isn’t meant to be like that. Instead, the screeching and cheering are terrifying…

This is a tough one because I still really don’t know how I feel about this film, and I think my perception of it could definitely shift over time. With that said, it’s undoubtedly a well-crafted piece of art in many ways. It’s incredibly surreal, which both elevates the film while also feeling a little over the top at times, almost like it’s insisting upon itself, but I suppose that’s Lynch’s MO. There are several scenes where I’m still not…

I can’t stop thinking about the Patrick Fischler diner scene. Fully respect the Robert Forster misdirect. One of the best films I’ve ever seen, I think.

the lesbian tension was INSANE, I’m so glad and so confused. Side note, I was genuinely terrified during some parts. Borderline horror.

Elske å føle meg helt mista i filmen.

It was alright, good even. I think my expectations going into the movie soured my take on this film more than anything else within the movie. Before watching this I heard so many people say how extraordinary it was and even some people say it was the best film of the 21st century (which is a big claim as this movie only released 2 years into the 21st century) So yeah that kind of pissed me off a little as…
