A completely ludicrous, sentimental, and (lucid) dreamy sci-fi rom-com psychodrama thriller(?) that has a bizarrely gripping emotional vanity and narcissism to it that I think made Tom Cruise reveal a few things that he didn’t mean to at the time. This movie feels like what I imagine the inside of his brain to be in a genuinely kind of real and raw way despite how delightfully strange and slickly artificial this has been engineered to be. Love that it goes from Bond right into Björk in the corporate montage. “The saddest girl to ever hold a martini.” What you were allowed to put in a movie right up until those towers dropped man, just breathtaking.

Always been a big fan of this movie. Never understood the hate it gets. It’s the kind of weird, audacious studio movie with a big star Hollywood doesn’t make so much anymore. Tom Cruise gives such an eerie performance (which may be even one of his best). It also features one of my favorite soundtracks of all time. And that shot of Tom Cruise absolutely alone in Times Square & Radiohead is playing will forever be imprinted in my mind.

Anddd Cameron Crowe convinced the city of New York to completely shut down Times Square for one morning just so Tom Cruise could have an existential panic attack in a pristine blue coat. Absolute cinema.

La vi sin saber absolutamente nada y terminé encontrándome con una película bastante reflexiva, además de tener ese filtro tan característico de las películas de los 2000 que le da mucho encanto ahora. Eso sí, no creo que lo haga perfecto. Sobre todo porque vengo de ver Perfect Blue, que en mi opinión retrata mucho mejor esa sensación de no saber qué es un sueño y qué es la realidad, aquí simplemente te omiten detalles para hacerte sentir perdido.

Popüler kültürün en şık ve en melankolik kâbuslarından birini yaşadım. Kendi bilinçaltımızın bize oynadığı oyunları (usa’lilere gore lucid dream) uyanma cesareti üzerine anlatan müthiş bir filmdi. Her dakikanın önemini bir kez daha anlamış olduk. İhtiyaç vardı ya bazı şeyler ihtiyaç… Film için Çisem’e sonsuz teşekkürler.

No sé qué esperaba de Vanilla Sky, pero definitivamente no era terminar viendo a Tom Cruise atrapado en una crisis existencial que se convierte poco a poco en una pesadilla psicológica jajaja. Even though I laughed at some of these needle drops I can’t deny that this is a GREAT soundtrack. Penelope Cruz also steals the movie from Cruise, in my opinion. Vanilla Sky is one of those movies that I had no idea what it was about. I’m still not sure I understand it entirely. However, I feel like this is one that does deserve a rewatch. I’m not sure if I entirely like the movie too! The ending saves it…

It’s a convoluted, interesting and very unique story. I think the ending didn’t pack enough of a punch. The breakdown of how everything was happening was really good. I’d watch it again. Also made me want to watch Eternal Sunshine and Mulholland Drive.

This was not as good as I remembered. I’m not sure Cameron Crowe has the gravitas to pull off something so ethereal. Cruise is pretty bad and the needle drops are almost ridiculous, but Cruz is fantastic.
