Well this was a curious film. I expected a shootout and I did get that in fact right off the bat but this really was a legal jurisdiction face off. On surface it doesn’t sound titillating and to be brutally honest probably isn’t but this thing does turn a page back into classic western shootout that does give the build up some gravitas and clarity especially playing off the the story of the O.K. Corral. Another case of some great actors giving great performances but I have to doth my cap to Jason Robards(Doc Holliday) for being so acerbic and charming. I also want to give some clout to John Sturges for making a well done western with a different shade to the material. Not ground breaking but clever enough to dig a spade in a genre sometimes complacent with familiar stylized material.

John Sturges returns 10 years later to the O.K. Coral to tie up all the loose ends following the famous gunfight and also try to acquit himself for this Disneyfied first effort. It’s surprising that a slugger like Sturges, with Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday on base and given two at bats, only came up with a infield single and a double. The Earp and Doc legend in all its iterations test the flexibility and durability of law and friendship at the expiration of the Old West. This sequel is cold, overtly dispassionate like James Garner’s Earp — both to the movie’s detriment. Jason Roberts is one of the great Doc Hollidays. Here he’s trying to serving as Earp’s conscious despite lacking one of his own. Robert Ryan is the bad guy. That’s enough of a reason for me to watch. Lucien Ballard’s gorgeous photagraphy is the another.

RESEÑA EN ESPAÑOL AQUI FIGHT! – THE TWO STURGES Much has been depicted across various mediums about the famous gunfight at the O.K. Corral, but very little attention has been given to its aftermath. So it feels fitting that one of the filmmakers responsible for one of the best portrayals of those events would eventually return to tell what comes next. The result is a Western that plays almost like a revenge thriller, with our hero gradually putting aside many of his morals in pursuit of vengeance and justice. But, as the film repeatedly asks, at what cost? By this point, the Western genre had already evolved into something far greyer with the rise of Spaghetti Westerns and Revisionist Westerns,…

Skimmed through James Garner’s back catalogue to see if I could find something to watch today, in remembrance. Hour of the Gun seemed to suit the purpose, and had Robert Ryan in it as well. Little did I know, it was to be Jason Robards (fittingly placed in the center of the poster) that would walk away with it, as Doc Holiday. Earp, Holiday and the Clanton’s are still at it at middle age, and the good guys are heavily outnumbered most of the time (a young Jon Voight is one of Ike Clanton’s numerous hired hands) in a film that depicts Earp as a ruthless “eye for an eye” gunslinger out for revenge. Nothing very special, but a more than serviceable western.

the western fatigued with its own pretensions, drunk on money and whiskey and the illusions of law and order, daily violence used as an opportunity to uphold political order — so many chances to re-appropriate that property, to shape the flow of economic strength with a few bodies buried or bought off. wyatt earp’s vengeance is self-indulgent, hypocritical, his implacably stern visage belies a shrinking moral rot that invisibly lurks beneath a tin-coated badge — sturges plays out these assassinations without fanfare or beauty, cold killings, no satisfaction, inevitable, reprehensible, bad men murdering other bad men and none of it adding up beyond the many graves in boot hill — the emphasis here on travel and passage throughout all corners…

You have to ask yourself why this particular slice of the history of the West is so heavily mythologized, especially by Hollywood. Why put so much money behind the bloody gang war between the Clantons and the Earps? I haven’t delved into the histories as much, but from what I have read and seen, there are always a few hints here and there as to the materialist view of things – monied interests were behind each side; this was a capitalist conflict of some kind. The Clantons are treated more poorly in the mythologizing, which begs a lot of questions. The descendants of the Clantons have famously spoken out against the Earps. All I know is, in the truth of…

Dr. Charles Goodfellow: “I can’t understand why I never win.” Dr. John ‘Doc’ Holliday: “You don’t play very well. Besides that, you never cheat.” “Do you cheat?” “No I’m too good, I don’t have to.” “Suppose you weren’t that good?” “I’d cheat.” (Doc Holliday always steals these movies. The universal rule is “Congratulations, you made a Wyatt Earp movie. Now Doc Holliday is going to walk in and take it.”) . Marshal Wyatt Earp kills a couple of men of the Clanton gang in a fight. In revenge, Clanton’s thugs kill the Marshal’s brother. Thus, Wyatt starts to chase the killers together with his friend Doc Holliday. . *I marked spoilers but really you probably know all the beats by…

What do Burt Lancaster, Kurt Russell, Kevin Costner, Henry Fonda, Randolph Scott, Joel McCrea, and James Garner all have in common? They’ve all played historical lawman Wyatt Earp in various Hollywood renditions of Earp’s life on screen. I have my own personal favourite, and I have others that I’ve still to see in the role, but Earp’s reputation as the most fearless lawman the Old West ever saw is something that isn’t up for debate. This 1967 film from director John Sturges covers familiar ground for us Western fans, and familiar ground for Sturges too, given that he directed a heavily fictionalized version of the events at the OK Corral in Tombstone 10 years earlier, with Burt Lancaster playing Wyatt…

Most legends of Wyatt Earp end with the gunfight at the O.K. Corral, our story begins there. John Sturges made two Wyatt Earp movies. The first, Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, ends at, well, the gunfight at the O.K. Corral. The second, Hour of the Gun, starts there and follows Wyatt and Doc Holliday as they track down the Clanton gang. Both felt pretty drawn out to me and I kept thinking that if they combined the two into a single two hour movie, it would have been better. Then I realized that would just be Tombstone. The more Earp movies I see, the more it confirms that Tombstone is the best of them.

“Hour of the Gun” is the revenge driven aftermath to the famed gunfight at the OK Corral. It’s a violent 60s western with no real heroes. James Garner’s Wyatt Earp is just about as cold-blooded as Robert Ryan’s Ike Clanton. There’s no Clementine in this film to lend some softener to its harsh fabric. However, the cinematography captures some beautiful outdoor scenes of the west, so that kind of adds beauty to the cold-blooded vengeance. It also features a couple of courtroom scenes that illustrate something about a the role of the legal system in trying to find justice through due process. William Schallert’s Judge Herman Spicer is an interesting part of this saga. There’s some interesting shifts in jurisdiction that make the killing either legal or not. John Sturges tried to get to the bottom of this famous story. The movie “Tombstone” is definitely more color-driven and richer, while this one just kind of gets it done.

The shootout at Tombstone is the starting point of this film instead of the end as John Sturges revisits the famous incident in Hour of the Gun. This time James Garner plays the part of the famous lawman, Wyatt Earp with Jason Robards as Doc Holliday. A decent Western that focuses on the aftermath of the gunfight for the Earps and the Cowboys. Tombstone shares a lot of similarities with this film which another reviewer pointed it out. Robards is the standout as Doc. The cast also includes Robert Ryan as Ike Clanton and a minor role for Jon Voight. Thanks to @pirateneckbeard as his review made me aware of this film.

A historically (sorta) accurate re-telling of the Gunfight at the OK Corral (well, the aftermath). Parts of the film are this-happened-then-that-happened. There are arguments to made that the (American) westerns in the lower tier are better (more charismatic performances, more fun to watch, etc). Yet, this film was interested in lawman Wyatt Earp’s willingness to operate in the grey areas of the law. By depicting the `good’ guys as morally dubious, the film was better than the standard (for the era) good-guys-vs-bad-guys John Wayne was in this year.

Ihka aito NPC-länkkäri. Hajuton, väritön ja mauton setti, joka jää väliinputoajaksi muiden Tombstonen tapahtumista kertovien leffojen joukkoon. Sai 93 minuuttia tuntumaan kolmelta tunnilta. Pienellä internetin käytöllä käy selväksi, ettei leffalle löydy oikeen minkään vinkkelin statusta eikä oikeastaan edes paljoa arvosteluja. Ja katsottuani en edes ihmettele miksi. Jerry Goldsmithin scorelle ja siistille miljöölle pienet pojot.

An interesting premise: start with the most famous gunfight in history but spend most of the runtime on the limits of the legal system, culminating in the lesser-known Earp vendetta ride while asking some incisive questions about what law and justice even mean. Who deserves to die? Who gets to kill? Are you sure about the reasons why? And yet, this feels like a squandered opportunity. It picks up some steam in the second half, when we spend more time…

This story closely tied to actual history is a race for Wyatt Earp & Ike Clanton to get the right to justify all the murdering they did only in the end decided by the one who stays standing. That is why Wyatt Earp is the american hero, he survived while his rival didn’t.

For long stretches this is really fucking dry. I do enjoy that this tries to show Wyatt as a murderer and not really as the pristine hero. It’s fun to think of this as being in continuity with Gunfight at the O.K. Corral (1957) and Sunset (1988)

Most films touted as being historically accurate tend to be a pacing slog with entertaining watchability on the backburner. Hour of the Gun is no exception. Aesthetically the movie is trapped between two worlds. Tonally it is entrenched in 50’s style, dialogue, and character work, while cinematically it looks like typical cheap fare from the later part of the 60’s (literally visually with cheap film stock). It flows and feels like an episode of Dragnet set in the old west.…

Hour of the Gun is a film about Wyatt Earp setting out for revenge after a violent showdown, tracking down those responsible. What I liked was how direct it is. It drops you straight into it and just follows that line without dressing it up. It’s more serious and worn down than you’d expect. There’s not much sense of victory in it, focusing more on the fallout than the action itself. It can feel a bit flat at times, but I still liked what it was going for. A steady, no-frills western.

Kind of a sequel to all the other Wyatt Earp movies which usually has the Ok Corral as the climax. In this movie it’s the first scene… looking very much like the ending of The Wild Bunch but filmed before. Kind of a darker role for James Garner. Robards is great as always!

Made a full 10 years after Sturges’ other Earp legend movie, I hoped that this version would have a thicker coat of New Hollywood grime on it. Alas, it appears that the western might have passed him by. The first half focuses on the legal fallout of the O.K. Coral (court scenes and election results), while the second half revenge tale is relatively slow and bloodless.

“If you’re gonna kill like me, you might as well drink like me.” I don’t think Doc Holliday ever said that to Wyatt Earp, but he should have, because that line is fucking bars. In 1957, John Sturges made Gunfight at the OK Corral, a classic of the genre and an absolute travesty of historical accuracy. Not the most rip-roaring Western, but a very solidly made film. Jason Robards is always excellent, and this time’s no different with his portrayal of Doc Holliday. Robert Ryan, who over the last five years has become one of my favorites at playing the villain, performs that job well yet again.

John Sturges’ film asks what happened after the Gunfight at the OK Corral. The answer isn’t that interesting. Jason Robards is great at Doc Holliday, but something is off about James Gardner’s portrayal of Wyatt Earp. I think I’m used to Gardner portraying sure of themselves wisacres and here he plays it straight. And its not interesting. Robert Ryan is barely on screen and when he is he isn’t nearly menacing enough. Sturges direction is steady but there isn’t anything memorable about it which is the best I can say for the film. Not bad, and worth watching for Robards, but ultimately not all that interesting.

Okay now we’re cooking. It’s remarkable how much better this is compared to the handsome slog that is The Gunfight at OK Corral. Sturges is in Bad Day at Black Rock mode here. There are a handful of tense action sequences (the train station in Tucson). And I just think a film about Wyatt Earp after the shootout going to great lengths to kill Ike Clanton is just more interesting than retelling the Earp saga before. It definitely anticipates Wild Bunch 2 years later

Hour of the Gun don’t waste any time setting up legend. It assumes you already know the story and then starts pulling it apart piece by piece. The O.K. Corral is treated like old news and the movie stays focused on what comes after, when the dust settles and the real mess begins. Right there tells you this ain’t interested in clean hero bullshit or cowboy fairy tales. James Garner’s Wyatt Earp is tight wound and controlled, always presenting himself…

Handsomely shot, always entertaining tale of the aftermath of the gunfight at the OK corral, with James Garner and Jason Robards doing fine work as Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday respectively. Paired against Robert Ryan’s Ike Clanton, seeking revenge for the death of his brothers, Garner is a bit more hard edged than you normally see from him, though his natural charm does shine through, and Robards is excellent as the ailing Holliday. Even the court room scenes, not typical western fare, are great fun

The slower pace bored me at first. But the characters grew on me. I like Jason alright as Doc. Older looking than Doc would’ve been in his time here on earth. Again, the second of the actors that played Doc that had a cleft lip like Doc. Jason’s isn’t as noticeable as Stacy Keach’s. In this movie, compared to “Doc,” Morgan Earp was killed at the proper time and place and in the proper historical way. Jason didn’t play Doc as sickly as per se Val Kilmer in “Tombstone,” nor did he look sickly, but it was fine. I enjoyed it enough.

Underrated Western telling the story of what transpired in the lives of the Earp and Clanton clans after the historic Gunfight at the OK Corral. James Garner is passable as Wyatt but Jason Robards is miscast as Doc Holliday. He is too old so the idea that he and Wyatt are friends and contemporaries stretches credulity to this reviewer. However, Robards does acquit himself well in some key dramatic moments. Perhaps this is the reason for his casting. Robert Ryan…

Good, not bad. It’s a better movie than Gunfight at the O.K. Corral was. The story follows a different structure, instead of the famous Gunfight — or its artistic/cinematic representation thereof — being the climax of the film, here it sees the first scene portray the shooting, already with historical dissonances, which sets the tone for the rest of the picture. It succeeds in showing more sides and segments to the real life tale, like the legal battle, and also…

September 21, 2025 When I watched Sunset a few months ago — the Bruce Willis oddball movie where James Garner plays an elderly Wyatt Earp in 1920s Hollywood — I discovered that Garner had already worn Earp’s boots once before, in The Hour of the Gun, directed by none other than John Sturges. Not as historically accurate as its bold opening credits claim, but from its opening scene to its closing, “Hour of the Gun” explores a respectable and interesting storyline: the fallout of the shoot out at the OK Corral. Starts off saying this is the fact, then makes Wyatt Earp out to be a man strictly beholden to the law, and then brings that into question. Wyatt and his brothers often found themselves on the wrong side of the law. Starts out with the shootout at the OK Corral but focuses on the fallout. Trials, and warrants, and who has jurisdiction. There is violence, even some blood and a headshot, but these things are over quick. I do like the dynamic between James Garner as Wyatt Earp and Jason Robards as Doc Holliday, two guys getting old and worn out by violence.

James Garner and Jason Robards are so cool together, and by themselves too, in one of the earliest examples of a “requel” I can think of. In maybe my favorite performance of his that I’ve seen, Garner is surprisingly quiet and steely and it really, really works for him. A late 60’s Hollywood Western that feels like an early 60’s one. The script is good but John Sturges’ execution feels languid and missing the intensity or forward momentum the story desperately calls for. James Garner deserves justice, even if the script won’t give it to him. This movie starts like you accidentally hit “skip intro” on the whole first act. The infamous O.K. Corral gunfight? Already happened before the opening credits are cold. If you don’t know the Earp story, good luck — you’re tossed into a courtroom scene with no context, no names, and no idea who got shot or why. I was only keeping up because I’ve seen roughly 17 other…

Great film. Gorgeous Sturges Cinemascope. James Garner and Jason Robards put in grounded, almost modern performances. Score by Jerry Goldsmith carries age old emotions with modern minimalism. This definitely deserves better ratings.

John Sturges knows how to stage a Western shootout along with making a pretty badass movie. It’s no Tombstone but it gets the job done.
-
E
A very interesting take on the Earp/Clanton story, with some great acting from an exceptional cast. Jason Robards gives one of the best Doc Holiday performances I’ve seen, right up there with Kirk Douglas.

A take on the Earp tale that begins with the O.K. Coral gunfight and details the Earp-Clanton feud to follow, Hour of the Gun was John Sturges’ attempt to make the most accurate telling of the events. It’s unfortunately boring. James Garner lacks the authenticity of the stern, mean persona of Wyatt Earp consistently depicted in film; Costner, Russell, Lancaster, McCrea, and even Fonda do it better. John Sturges was probably able to cast Garner from his involvement in The Great…

I’ve always thought the weakest part of Tombstone is the last act, and lucky me, this is basically a whole movie about that last 30 minutes! All about the legal ramifications of the gunfights and goes even further into the lengths Wyatt went to in order to get revenge. Very cool stuff! Tombstone cribbed a ton from this one, too. My age of discovering older Westerns continues.

The dust settles and the Western is at its barest, most vulnerable. Bodies lie on the floor, but that doesn’t matter. That never mattered. John Sturges’ Gunfight at the O.K. Corral is a film that centers itself on that myth – building upwards towards the huge event that would influence the cinematic language of the Western forever – but in his second Wyatt Earp film, Hour of the Gun, the O.K. Corral is shown in the beginning of the film,…

Sets out its thesis about five minutes in by ending the opening credits with a statement this movie is based on fact and then having the gunfight at the OK Corral play out in 20 seconds. Given the complicated historiography surrounding Wyatt Earp*, claiming the whole movie is based in fact is clearly not accurate. But Sturges & co. are clearly more interested in the way that Earp’s contradictory desires (for revenge & order) are set loose in a specific political environment.…

I don’t know, after seeing Tombstone, Hour of the Gun doesn’t really seem very impressive. The characters aren’t very complex and the pacing was “interesting”. The film starts with the shootout at the O.K. Corral, then briefly becomes a courtroom drama and then drifts off into numerous individual stories that seem to have only little to do with each other. Unfortunately, the film doesn’t give you anything to hold on to, although it is based on a fascinating true story.

The world didn’t need another take on the gunfight at the O.K. Corral in 1967, which is probably why Sturges and screenwriter Edward Anhalt devoted this story to its aftermath, primarily the back-and-forth vengeance between Wyatt Earp and Ike Clanton. It’s a sturdy, reportedly much more factual approach, handled seriously and with few frills (there’s no romantic subplot for instance). James Garner is Earp (whom he would play again 20 years later for Blake Edwards in Sunset), Jason Robards is…

The Wyatt Earp – Doc Holliday segment of Cowboy/Western stories is extensive, and this one is right up there with the best of them. How far will a character bound to upholding the law, be willing to use it to enact revenge on his enemies and what does he become in the process? This is the crux of the story and a well told one at that.

M

James Garner as Wyatt Earp and Jason Robards as Doc Holliday. It is enough to enjoy thia film. Not to mention impressive cinematography. The story is about the aftermath of the gunfight at the OK corral. It’s a slow burner, more of a character drama than your usual action western. The script is full of details that are not so clear, as it is assumed that the audience would know the context very well. Sometimes I wasn’t sure what is actually going on. Robert Ryan, Monte Markham and Jon Voight made great supporting roles.

Another western movie nothing really remarkable but very relaxing to watch

Ignore the horrendous poster, this is one of the best films about the Earp/Holliday mythos.

John Sturges does a mixup of some spaghetti, some revisionistic, and some classic western, which ends up being pretty decent, but not that much more. Jason Robards is plenty fantastic as Doc Holliday.

#DomingoDeWestern.

I was fascinated to watch this movie after I heard Sturges‘s take on Gunfight at the OK Corral was a fictionalized version of the Wyatt Earp story. While this movie was a factual account of what happened. Interesting that this movie begins with the gun fight in Tombstone, and then you see the legal fallout of it.

Director Directed by John Sturges made this follow-up film to tell more of what happened immediately after Gunfight at the OK Corral from 1957. I really enjoyed this film and had never heard of it, until someone recommend that I check it out. Wyatt Earp (James Garner) and Doc Holliday (Jason Robards) are the focus of this story and from what I have read, this is a more accurate telling of what happened. I enjoyed the performances of James Garner…

Another film taking on the story of Wyatt Earp, this one claiming to be historically accurate. I am not particularly interested in the history of this conflict, which explains my muted excitement for this otherwise competently made western. I liked how it deals with the aftermath and not the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, and at times it became almost a legal drama. It is not simply gunfights and assassination attempts, though plenty of those too, but also the legalities…

After I watched ‘Gunfight at the O.K. Corral’ I saw that John Sturges had directed a more accurate version of the same story a decade later. ‘Hour of the Gun’ literally ends the opening credits with: “This picture is based on fact. This is the way it happened.” It’s wild that an old-school Hollywood hand just said, “That other movie can go die in a gutter.” Of course, ‘Hour of the Gun’ is not accurate either, but I don’t care about accuracy in works of historical fiction. As a film, it’s a bit better than ‘Gunfight at the O.K. Corral’. It’s kinda Proto Revisionist Western.

It is rather unique that a director basically adapts the same story two times like the famous gunfight at OK Corral but John Sturges did it. And I definitely want to watch the first adaptation, which should be much more heroizing as far as I have heard. Hour of the Gun is an exciting, psychological western about this infamous confrontation (in 1881) between the Clanton gang and Wyatt Earp, in which the lawman, in keeping with the historical truth, appears…

John has made 2 Wyatt Earp flicks. The first being GINFIGHT AT THE OK CORRAL. Which shows the build up of characters and ends with the famous gunfight. Which funnily enough last for about 10mins. Now John comes back with a sequel of sorts. This time, the gunfight lasts about 30 seconds. Which is much closer to the truth. Now Wyatt has to deal with Ike Clayton and his posse and brothers. This sequel shows Wyatt at his most vigilante esque style. Actors have changed but the western stays the same.

A bunch of guys in front of and behind the camera who are clearly of the more classical period of Westerns doing a very solid, well-written revisionist Western, dramatizing the fallout of the famous O.K. Corral shootout and examining Wyatt Earp’s subsequent revenge-upon-revenge manhunt against the surviving members of the Clanton gang. James Garner as Earp and Jason Robards as Doc Holliday create a really compelling portrait of two men and a friendship coming down from their most righteous and glorious highs and realizing there are still years left to go. Feels personal, considering.

Doc Holliday: “Hey, do me a favor. Get out of here. Don’t hang around.” Solid western, which tries to portray the events surrounding the OK Corall a little more realistically. But it’s also a little less exciting. Jason Roabards is a standout.

“If you’re gonna kill like me, you might as well drink like me.” It’s a rare Wyatt Earp movie that starts with the Gunfight at the OK Corral, but it makes sense in the context of Hour of the Gun. This movie ain’t interested in the reasons why the Earps and Clantons hate each other. It’s just a fact. They do hate each other, and the rest details the aftermath, the bulk of the movie focusing on Wyatt’s vengeance ride. …

Garner is good as a revenge fueled Wyatt Earp. Follows the aftermath from the OK corral gunfight. Some decent gun duels. Some awkward dialogue. Entertaining enough.

The second of two Westerns based on the events surrounding the gunfight at the OK Corral made by director John Sturges, this one hews closer to the historical facts. The movie begins with the historic gunfight and then focuses on the rivalry between Wyatt Earp (James Garner) and Ike Clanton (Robert Ryan). Solid turn by Jason Robards as Doc Holliday, great cinematography by Lucien Ballard and a good score by Jerry Goldsmith.

Begins with the gunfight at the OK Corral, then follows James Garner’s Wyatt Earp + Jason Robard’s Doc Holliday through the aftermath. More politics and procedural than a gunfighter story, but it has its moments. Unfortunately the opening scene is its best.

admirably ambitious with an interesting concept by starting with—rather than building up to—the famous gunfight at the O.K. Corral, then chronicling the aftermath through the subsequent trial and “Earp Vendetta Ride”. despite Jerry Goldsmith’s solid score and a decent cast like James Garner, Robert Ryan, baby Jon Voight, and especially Jason Robards as Doc Holliday, Sturges’ moral character study feels both ahead of its time but also still half-baked within the standard uncreative trappings of a ‘60s Western. the moral…

Consummate filmmaker, John Sturges tackles Wyatt Earp (again) in this historical western that starts where Gunfight at the O.K. Corral left off and unfolds from there with Earp and Holliday taking on the dirty dog Clanton gang. Carried by Garner in all-business revenge mode and Robards playing up his merc with a mouth sidekick like a champ.

Pretty solid. Somewhat of a courtroom procedural at times detailing the execution of law in the West which I didn’t expect. Good stuff but not spectacular as a whole.

Man, this is awful. I love a Western. Sometimes I forget that they can be bad, just like any other movie. This takes some of the most colorful characters from American history and smooths out all of their interesting traits. Then it collects some of the most dramatic events of the Old West and either rushes through them or removes any of the features that made them so exciting. I mean, for God’s sake, the shootout at Iron Springs replaced…

Good idea to do a film about the aftermath of the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, and the slow pacing works for this type of story. I would probably get more from this if I did a rewatch.

Tells the story of Tombstone starting from the shootout at the OK Corral. The movie goes right into it and it’s over within 2 minutes of a good building tension credits sequence. The rest of the movie deals with the morality of Earps revenge. The movie looks fantastic in panavision and Jerry Goldsmiths score is excellent. Though it is Robards who steals the show as Doc Holliday in a terrific performance and a great mustache.

Jason Robards deserves way more love! Two films in and I’m sold. His portrayal of Cheyenne in ‘Once Upon a Time in the West’ is my favorite from that film. What an incredible actor! Watching him again here left me in awe. I love how he commands the screen with effortless authority. His presence is truly natural! No wonder he excelled on stage. I’m eager to explore his other works, now added to my watchlist! Sighing, simping, swooning: Oh dear,…

This was the best version of the gunfight story until Tombstone. It has the most likable version of Doc Holliday, a sufficiently macho version of Wyatt Earp, believable dialogue & no unnecessary rudeness or wasted scenes. Goldsmith’s score was perfect when it was on, but there were a lot of scenes with no music. My only other gripe was with the $20k reward money, since that’s like four gazillion dollars in the 1800s!
