“Good evening, Clarice… just like old times” “Shut up” me in theory: gay-coding villains is an all too common trope thats damaging to the gay community by repeatedly associating gay people with villainy, corruption, evil, etc. ray liotta: hannibal lecter seems like a queer HAHAHA AM I RIGHT? me: YOU’RE RIGHT!!!

I wish Ridley Scott directed another movie like this. His most elegant film since Alien. Clarice is deeply disillusioned of the FBI as she is used by the Bureau as a weapon. A critique of liberal feminism and its naive ideas of changing institutions from within. Julianne Moore did a solid job and Anthony Hopkins is god-like in his dispensement for violence against those that are rude.

i refused to watch this after the silence of the lambs because i was scared it would be too disturbing for me 🤕 anwz i wouldn’t even call it a friendship, the relationship between lecter & starling, because there’s something so strange about their bond. they don’t trust each other, they don’t really like each other, and yet they understand each other in a way that feels almost unsettlingly intimate. what i love most is that lecter never seems interested in…

Gary Oldmans makeup in this literally makes him talk like Jim Carey in the Grinch. And funny enough, that’s one of the least cartoony parts of this movie. Hannibal is the most uneven of the Lector novels but it also has some of the most interesting things in the trilogy. It also makes it the most difficult to adapt. However Scott seems mainly interested in the action and the violence, and that’s the least interesting part of the book to…

Anthony Hopkins remains chilling and creepy as Hannibal Lecter, the film starts strong but unfortunately goes down hill halfway through. Julianne Moore had big shoes to fill and as good as she is, I don’t think she quite measured up, she lacked the chemistry that Foster and Hopkins had in the first film. The highlight of this film for me is a nearly unrecognizable Gary Oldman delivering a phenomenal, deeply unsettling performance beneath heavy disgusting prosthetics. I don’t know how he does it, but he never fails!
-

1 -
J
Whilst not a patch on Silence Of The Lambs this is still a great thriller, Julianne Moore has massive shoes to fill taking over as Clarice, and unfortunately isn’t quite as captivating as Jodie Foster. Hopkins is still as terrifying as before and Oldman once again proves that he’s one of the greatest actors of his generation: providing a brilliant performance even buried under layers of prosthetics. It sags a little in the middle and then quite abruptly just kind…

Ridley Scott Ranked

J
Ridley Scott’s Hannibal Lecter crime thriller isn’t completely flat, but it does feel a bit weird. I don’t really think the Saw editing style does that much for a film like this. It kind of takes away the slickness that the other films had. Anthony Hopkins is great again, he was made for this role. It’s nothing special but I suppose I would recommend it.

Jodie’s Clarice was better. The brain scene was crazy. Krendler is a fucking doofus for not instantly running out of the house. “Was getting caught a part of your plan?” is what I want to ask Lecter. Verger is kind of a dick. Completely different vibe to The Silence of the Lambs.

Elegant, disturbing, and completely hypnotic. Hannibal Lecter has never felt more terrifying or fascinating. 🩸
-
T
Sequel definitely has its moments. Hopkins is great as Lecter and Julianne Moore does her best to fill Jodie Fosters big shoes. The movie though desperately misses those shoes. It misses Foster’s presence and range. Where silence hit all its marks this one misses quite a few.

This movie stinks. It’s a far cry from The Silence of the Lambs, and as a Ridley Scott hater I’m not too surprised. It has none of the intelligence or curiosity of that earlier film. More than anything it reminds me of a dull crime show like CSI, or one of those post-movie TV shows where they try to recapture the essence of a good thing at a much lower cost with worse actors and half-baked scripts. It also doesn’t…

I really struggled to watch Scott’s quick cut aways and editing style. There were some nice shots here that were never allowed to have their moment. I think the story was good, but Stirling never did anything until the second half and the first act was not properly paid off. Really struggles without Foster. It gets worse as I think of it, to be honest.
-
R
Eerie belated sequel that has a Jodie Foster shaped hole in it… Julianne Moore does her best but just can’t hold the scenes with Anthony Hopkins as well as Jodie Foster did. Still a great film with a superb score from Hans Zimmer and great direction from Ridley Scott.

I didn’t remember the 1st part but bf said I don’t need to remember anything besides that he got out of prison so. it was fun, some irrational decisions I can’t fully understand were made but that’s okay, it was very enjoyable. I liked that he cut his hand, in character, althought I wish we got more story after that but apparently that’s the ending so ;((

The only good thing was seeing the guy eating his own brain
-
C
Kind of infuriating because on paper this should be really entertaining due to its trashiness, but this is such a slog to get through. The only consistent positive is Gary Oldman who, even buried underneath a shitload of prosthetics, still outperforms nearly everybody else here (Ray Liotta notwithstanding).

It’s diminishing returns as this series goes on. He definitely feeds a kid brains at the end of the movie and that’s pretty sick.

A
Why does Gary Oldman look exactly like that old lady from SpongeBob in this? 😭😭😭 This movie works better if you think of it as a standalone rather than a sequel, and even then, it’s not particularly good. The second hour improves a little, but it’s still mostly shock value over substance. • Ridley Scott Ranked

J
Totally fails in every was as a silence of the lambs sequel, but taken on its own terms its alright I guess. Ridley’s direction is pretty solid, and Anthony Hopkins is doing the best with what he’s given, but the story here is just not very interesting. I don’t really care about anyone in this movie aside from Hannibal Lecter. Even Clarice has just become a caricature of her former self, even beyond the actor switch it’s just hard to believe this is even supposed to be the same person.

Such a slow beginning, definitely could have been just an hour and a half not 2 hours. Hannibal is even more diabolical in this one to an extreme that is appalling.
-
J
Waayyyyy too dramatic, but I also kind of liked it. It lacked the grittyness that Silence has, but it did not lack the tension. Hannibal was still very fun and I like it when he says “okidokie!” That is such a meme, I will carry it with me everywhere I go. I hear Verga is a much naughtier boy in Ťḥé Ɓòoʻƙ but in this he was actually kind of delightful and I was sort of rooting for him, he…

Overall Score: 3.67 / 5 There were so many things he left his prints on—they didn’t need to go to all that trouble to get them. What was the deal with the X-rays? Was that his arm? How did they get it, and why was it presumed to be Hannibal’s in the first place? How did Verger’s body get all torn up and crippled if Hannibal just asked him to peel off his face? What are these drugs he is…
-
G
the silence of the lambs is my favourite movie. however this is NOT it 😭 almost everything about this movie is just bad
-
K
The book is way scarier because of the ending of Clarice’s storyline. I can see where Bedelia carried it over in Hannibal (NBC). How easily one can lose themselves! How fragile the mind truly is. Mason Verger is disgusting.
