How did this film cost $80 million dollars? Hopefully Vince Vaughn pocketed a good share of that. The family message comes off strangely when everyone but Jon Voight is made out as some kind of freak. You could argue this is simply an exaggeration of how complicated people are, yet they are rarely if ever given a good side to balance it out. What can be credited is the up-to-date characters though, of backyard UFC youtubers, megachurch sex-maniacs and women picking up younger men (that they knew as children). This edge along with a few truly incisive outrageous lines saves it from being pointless.

This painfully unfunny “comedy” is one of the worst Christmas films I’ve ever seen. Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon star as an extremely unlikable couple who have to spend Christmas with each of their divorced parents for a few hours. There isn’t one interesting character in this movie, and all the “laughs” are cheap gross-out gags (which can work if done correctly). Don’t bother watching this terrible film

Ehh I still maintain my stance of Vince Vaughn. He’s not that funny. Reese carried this movie. They have fine enough chemistry and the supporting cast has some fun faces in Robert Duvall, Jon Favreau, Mary Steenburgen, Sissy Spacek, and Jon Voight in various roles. But this feels like another forgettable holiday film. Maybe it’s because I have a great relationship with my family, and even with my pending second family via my fiancee. But yeah this was meh. If the holidays aren’t your jam and you’re a bit of a Scrooge yourself; this one is for you.
