Hard to believe this simple story about street racers jacking vcrs is in the same franchise as a movie where The Rock redirects a torpedo with his hands.

The first time I saw this was in Daly City in a theater full of gearheads next to a parking lot full of presumably fast cars. One of the more memorable theater experiences of my life. Minnesota can’t compare, and the Alamo Drafthouse ain’t what it used to be, but I had fun tonight. You forget in the current Fast & Furious era how much this first one loved Thanatos. Core characters die; it has teeth in a way the later…

What a classic! Makes you want to drive manual and just appreciate the beauty of all american muscle.

oh wow back when movies had personality and actual colours. i got into the mood for this movie by watching a race in the morning and through sheer power of love but i still dont get it. these character are saying lines and doing things like they’re aura farming in the negatives. i cannot 😭 i can respect this movie tho, because it committed so hard to its aesthetic the way hollywood forgot how to.

Just a classic movie about street racing with some good twists. I enjoy this movie a lot but I always forget the classic group is only a few of them in this one. Still great in theaters!

Now I know this franchise kind of lost the plot more recently. However, this one is gold. It’s a fun time, the soundtrack is good, the racing is eye catching, and we all say Grace with the Toretto family. I’m just happy I got to see this on the big screen.

Can’t believe I’ve never officially logged this movie on here before. This shit MEANS something to me man. They don’t make movies like this anymore. A love letter to cars, a love letter to LA, a love letter to brotherhood. It’s dripping with heart, it’s dripping with style, it’s simply a perfect film. I love this movie so much.

It’s been years since I’ve seen this. Back in the day, my now-husband got me liquored up on wine (with my enthusiastic consent) and we watched the first five F&F movies in a row. Having now seen all of them except the most recent, it was a shock to return to basics and see the (somewhat) grounded crime drama the first film turned out to be. It’s ridiculous but not physics-defying, no submarines, no space, no Rock. Letty was sadly…

900-hp of pure, unbridled American muscle. Along with a triple intake bug catcher too boot. Sheesh. When I was younger this was the best movie I had ever seen. Right up until they destroyed the most beautiful piece of machinery my eyes have ever gazed upon.

Just watched this in theaters… I miss when everything was about the cars💔💔

This movie is hysterical. Sure, the races are cool, but that wouldn’t be the reason I’d watch this movie again. See, you hear about these movies and think it’ll just be over-the-top racing the whole time. Don’t get me wrong, that’s there too. But really, the movie is weirdly long closeups of Paul Walker and Vin Diesel trying to stare into each other’s souls. Why is everyone glistening with unrelenting sweat? Why does Vin Diesel always begin his sentences with “I’m gonna show you something”? Nobody really knows.
-
N
Rawwwr. I smell *snifff sniff* skanks. Why don’t you girls just pack it up before I leave tread marks all over your face Letty than proceeds to knock out the guy with the leather snacking pants They don’t make them like this anymore

I feel like this movie is a basic ingredient that movies like Cars, Speed Racer, Iron Man and Transformers used to greater effect. It’s just so aggressively unsubtle and poorly acted and sexist and generally stupid. But there’s like 15 minutes worth of cool stuff and I guess that was enough to start a franchise.

Now I know that “Race Wars” meant the exact same thing in 2001 as it does now, and the segregation in this movie doesn’t do that name any justice. Still sick to see some fellas pulling car pranks on the big screen!

Classic nostalgic fun. One of the funniest plot points in this is the crew trying to boost panasonic crt tvs with built in vhs players. I also think Vince and Dom may have had a non hetero relationship off screen. Watched @theatre 25th anniversary screening

Seeing this finally in theatres and driving through downtown LA afterwards was 🤌🤌🤌 I like how Vince wears the same red camo tank top constantly but wears a different mesh tank top over it a few times. Also, Leon was the best and should’ve been in more of these movies. 2 will always be my favorite but this is still so classic.

It’s so of it’s time it truly feels like a time capsule that takes you back to 2001. That sweaty, orange color grading, cheesy dialogue that’s so quotable, that early 2000’s cgi, techno music. It’s just an absolute experience in the theatre. Such a pity what they ended up doing with the franchise.

“They said it was me who was screaming.” A strong, strong case could be made that the first Fast and Furious represents the pinnacle of Vin Diesel’s tenure as Dominic Toretto. His performance just has an ease to it—the tough-guy routine less of a posture—as well as a magnetism you can’t shake. He’s guarded without being gruff, intense without making a thing about it. The alpha and omega of his quarter-mile world.

🚬🙂↕️ I love this stupid movie (objectively not a good movie, but who cares). It’s pure distilled 00’s goodness. The music, piss filter, fashion, cars, etc. Became a comfort movie for me after my first watch a couple years ago. Was hella cool to see it on the big screen with friends. During the first 8min of the representation there was no sound. People started making their own dub for the car sounds, was hilarious.

It feels like summer to me. I feel like the sun is on my skin, and I’m on a beach as water is lapping up on my legs as I’m lying on the sand with my head resting on Brian O’Conner’s chest.

The soundtrack might not be great, the dialogue might be cringe, the acting might feel flat, it’s not deep, and though I disliked the resolution, but it’s fun to watch cool cars go fast. Also some pretty cool shots and cuts tbh.

25th Anniversary Re-release on an 4K Restoration Had to Michelle Rodriguez fine ahh in the big screen, also good i forget how freaking amazing the set pieces are, so simple but freaking badass. A great action heist film that’s incredibly stylish and has good and grounded storyline. It’s effortlessly cool and adrenaline-pumping. 5/5.

Peak 2000s… glad we got to see this on the big screen So many iconic one liners, just a classic. Its ashame the franchise went off the rails, but the ones centered around cars are still awesome. RIP Paul Walker

Despite more or less avoiding the Fast franchise for the past 25 years, after watching the first in theaters, I get it now. Fucking rips. Rad as hell. In today’s market, I too would target truckloads of Panasonic VCRs. Just as dope as the movie was watching it in the presence of someone who may or may not be Matt Damon’s stuntwoman. Partner and I were just ogling her arms before, during, and after the movie.

25th anniversary screening. It’s unfortunate AMC doesn’t stock Coronas. But when I asked them to turn theater 4’s volume up during a popcorn refill, they sure did.

I just saw this in the theater again for the 25th anniversary. It’s jarring to go back to this after the later movies. Vin Diesel is fantastic in this movie. It’s a shame that at some point he just stopped trying.

First review back… heh… here we go 😼 This is one of my best friend’s favorite movies/franchises, got to see it for the first time in theaters with him and my brother for the 25th anniversary rerelease. Straight up the epitome of cool, had a huge smile on my face for the entire run time. I am a sucker for early 2000s electronic music and having that play over street racing and chase sequences felt straight out of a PS2 game, genuinely the most fun I’ve had with a movie recently.

Watched this for the first time ever…and in 4D! Surprisingly pretty good. Cheesy and full of testosterone, but I still had fun. Midway I realized it was the exact same plot as Point Break (even the ending…) The car scenes were obviously super cool, but this movie is longer than it needs to be.
-
M
Ultimate 2000s movie for me. Something about Brian’s first car that I love….
-

In my soul this was a five star film
-
B
Way more of a real movie than i remember, and it has so much more in common with 80s/90s action movies than it even has with its most recent sequels. In case you forgot what 2001 was like the annoying guy calls Paul Walker a faggot in the first 10 minutes but the guy next to me said “gay” out loud like señor Chang when they called Paul Walker beautiful so has anything really changed? I totally forgot ted levine…
-

It’s funny how they hijacked trucks with VHS/TV combos for a big score. Check out the review. youtu.be/ya1cKXCmaa0
