not necessarily enticing but it’s definitely made for people who stay for the magic of David Lynch’s mind. how he transforms a desolate industrial landscape into a claustrophobic cage by fear of parenthood and insanity is something only him can think of. For me, it’s a surreal interpretation of why abortion is really a healthcare. Luvvv u David Lynch

Pardon? I’m too stupid for this dude, I think I was halfway there trying to get any semblance of meaning out of it then it just ended. But oh well, it just means I’m gonna be thinking about it for a week at least. I’m a big colors guy in cinema but black and white films are just so special. The shadows and contrast is beautiful and the monochrome enhances the the imagery in such a unique way. Speaking of…

I’m sorry. What the fuck is going on? I get that it’s like a nightmare and after some research I do understand the deeper meanings behind some specific scenes and the oppressive sound design. But man it was boring to watch. I am not a fan of surrealism, and I know that is probably my sign to avoid David Lynch’s filmography, but I am on a mission to try and find a movie of his that I do like. So, to be quite frank, I did not enjoy this one.

this movie had one of the most deeply unsettling, otherworldly like atmospheres i’ve ever seen and combined with the nightmarish sound design, the movie felt like an hour and a half long inescapable nightmare. i feel like this was an extremely well done and smart approach, rather than using a traditional plot line and story. it supported the movies theme of the drowning pressure and anxieties of being thrusted into the responsibilities of fatherhood/adulthood very well and much better than traditional storytelling could. resembling the “inescapable nightmare” i said this movie feels like.

Oh my god, man. What a ride. On rewatch, it seems to me like the first time I watched this movie I didn’t pay any attention. I got completely sucked into the experience this time and, thinking back, I cannot understand how on earth this seemed boring to me. Having now read some of Kafka’s work, everything about this movie suddenly makes sense. The first time I watched it I felt completely dissapointed by the film’s lack of a “normal” structure; which led me to rate it a 2.5. But now, since I got used to dream-like and surrealist experiences, the movie felt completely different.

I have finally arrived. It makes sense for Lynch’s inspirations to come through stronger in Eraserhead than in his later work, with Henry functioning essentially as a Chaplin insert dropped into an industrial hell. What really surprised me was just how strong Lynch’s style permeates throughout his filmography. The concept of something being Lynchian, which to make it easy, is a marriage of the uncanny and the banal — seems as if it was a phenomenon slowly built over a…

There’s absolutely no doubt that this is one of the most important films ever released. It’s a dreamlike nightmare mixed with painfully real emotions. Henry’s fear of raising a baby reflects his anxiety about adulthood, parenthood, and possibly even his own self-consciousness. He tries to escape into fantasy rather than face reality, but running away solves nothing. When fear replaces compassion, responsibility becomes something monstrous and causes even greater suffering. David Lynch knew in advance what cinema is.

Well that was quite a ride watching this film. I would say for me it was very deeply disturbingly unsettling watching this film from all of the scenes that I really could understand very quickly but that is David Lynch you just can’t understand everything by just straight watching his films and that’s the beauty of Eraserhead it’s a beautiful film by all of his gory vibes that it has. And that’s why I love David Lynch.

Sorry to say this about such a seminal film, but ‘Eraserhead’ is honestly a bit of a curate’s egg. It’s obvious that the director/auteur is a genius. I don’t just mean that in hindsight, with knowledge of David Lynch’s incredible career. There are there are moments that take your breath away. The dialogue, what little there is of it, is perfect. The casting, especially for what is essentially a student film, is bang on the money. The set and prop…

David Lynch transports you to a seemingly impossible industrial world where true human connection and nature wanes as factories take over. The anxiety that Henry goes through of raising a kid is something that aggressively latches onto the audience. Lynch’s involvement in editing and sound design cannot be understated; it wouldn’t be the same without it. If you want something done right… So much of Eraserhead informs his later work, and the fact that this is his first feature length…

Sonically terrifying, mentally stimulating, an absolute conversation starter in its approach and symbolism. But, alas, the baby has given me psychological trauma, and I will not be sleeping soundly for months to come. David Lynch is the master of the black and white, lighting and set design beyond what most other directors dream of. Something to chew on in every scene, even if it’s mostly viscous liquids and chicken parts.

Eraserhead is basically a perfect film in my eyes, and a clear masterpiece of surrealism. The whole technical side of the film is done excellently, which is incredible for a directorial debut. Especially considering it came out in 1977. I adore Henry as a protagonist, and the bleakness of the industrial backdrop he navigates. It’s a perfect baseline for the surreal and spiritual world the film is set in. Thematically, it’s great. I think Lynch understood great surrealism always comes…

Domesticity was apparently the darkest fear of every artist in the ’70s.

Somehow one of the few Lynchs I had yet to see. K wanted to watch for the sound design and said afterwards of all the droning throbbing noise: “I feel like I’m not alone.” A movie about a man child bewildered at what he has done and made with his seed, represented here by goo-filled sperm-shaped sacks that fall from the air, get stepped on, and flung against the wall. The fear of responsibility, shirking relationships and care in favor…

watch this for isaac tonight ill never forget how much this shit wigged him the fuck out. this movie gets harder to watch the older i get. the scariest part is truly having to hear the baby cry non stop and literally no one fucking help it. Henry maybe wants to try but it’s not because of care as much as it is obligation. It’s fucking haunting and beautiful. and in heaven everything is fine.

I hadn’t seen it in so long and watching it with someone who had never seen it before and who rarely watches movies made me view it from a new perspective… and it’s simply incredible. So much of what people try to imitate about Lynch is just so pure in this movie. This time around I noticed Henry is acting like a silent film protagonist, especially in the first few minutes of the film; the way he walks and the faint music feels like a Chaplin impersonation.

83/100 You know i think eraserhead might really be my favourite david lynch so far, I really do love it. henry walking alone through this giant industrial hellscape city is super mesmerising, and reminds me of shaun tans work. I particularly liked the films sound design which i thought helped its desolate immersion immensely. A very lonely movie. Also creature design is very good and detailed

David Lynch’in ilk uzun metrajlı filmiymiş.

Loved the background sound. A little hard to follow, but it did feel like a crazy dream or nightmare—which was the point I think. Thought about it for days afterwards. Justice for eraserhead baby :-/
