My review of this movie is that the emotional climax is Paul Rudd crying about money in the nicest BMW I’ve ever seen

THIS IS 40 is funny, and the supporting cast is terrific, but it’s WAY too long, has a lot of unnecessary scenes, and a lackluster plot.

It is a pointless movie. Depicted the dysfunctional family issues and dynamics well. But there’s no plot. Just a collection of scenes with no direct flow. No climax. No proper ending.Yet I really felt the characters. Specially the Pete’s character. Some characters I just hated. Specially the leaching father. What’s up with him? And everything was going fine until that bicycle crashing into car door scene. What’s the point of that scene? Why was he riding? Where was he going?…

Thank god my first three months of 40 have been nothing like this 😂. Funny continuation of the characters from Knocked Up & had some heartfelt moments.

K
Every romcom I ever have to watch is just about men being horrible to their wives him and his friend fantasize about their wives passing away in the first fifteen minutes why is Judd apatow’s three million dollar mansion in studio city supposed to be relatable why did he make Megan Fox talk like that

En satirisk portrættering af mental load og skjult reproduktivt arbejde. Den er ikk SJOV, men den er giggle worthy.

i do like judd, i really do. he picks good music. you can tell he loves his family, the girls are the best part of this movie. even if it is wayyyy too long and generally hasn’t aged that well.

LOST MENTIONED!!!
-
M
Sadie is realest character here because Lost really did mean that much. There was also no reason for this to be so fuckin long 😭
-
L
Thought this would’ve been the whole Knocked Up gang back together to add to the rest of the story but it was 2012, shit happens. I liked the Simon and Garfunkel references and Maude Apatow was born to play a distraught sister.
-
A
could’ve been shorter
-
I
unnecessarily long. equally terrifying and amusing. if that is what 40 is truly like i do not want it. double it and give to the next person bc ill acc die

I was quite bored throughout most of the movie, apart from the Bodies by Jason scene (and the bloopers) and it has none of the main cast in it.

I love it, it gives me a feeling of nostalgia.

Real, raw, & really funny. Not sure if this qualifies as a “dark comedy” but im surprised at the lower ratings for this movie just because it’s not non stop jokes. It’s not always happy or funny, but thats life. Its much more nuanced than that

Solid companion piece to Knocked Up. I enjoyed this but the entire time I was distracted by the fact that Judd Apatow willingly wrote and directed a movie where his wife has multiple lots and lots of sex with Paul Rudd and his own kids are even calling Paul Rudd daddy… Bro really wrote another man to play his life. Had some hilarious moments though. “It’s not melting my brain it’s blowing my mind”

why is this movie so long
-
S
The movie was a tad too long, but some scenes had me laughing so hard. It felt like a surprisingly honest depiction of being 40 (like I would know, I’m not there yet). Judd Apatow backs off a little from the sexist jokes and gives us something that feels more genuine and grounded, while still being really funny. I wouldn’t say it’s a great movie, but it’s pretty decent.
-
N
maude apatow after delivering the monologue of the century at age 13… the most made for me movie ever so so so perfect i love it so much top 4 spot confirmed. everyone in this movie is so awesome greatest cast of all time leslie mann is the funniest person ever and the apatow sisters are child acting masterclasses. those bloopers are generational staples it is genuinely crazy how i could watch this once a day and it’ll always be just as perfect. more 2 hour 20 min comedies now.

I’m not a huge Leslie Mann fan and this movie didn’t help her case. This movie was just stupid. Maude Apatow also sucked so bad in this movie.

I do love paul rudd

When I was obsessed with green day I forced myself to watch this because billie Joe Armstrong was in it for a bit, the mum from 17 again n Paul Rudd potential but not there
-
E
What’s Oxykitten? Meow
-
D
Really funny with some interesting twists. Great teaching moments too for relationships too potentially. Meaningful and comedy I suppose.
-
N
This movie is bloated. Too long, too many subplots and unnecessary characters like Albert brooks Jason segal and Megan Fox to name a few. That said, it’s a great idea for a movie, has a lot of laughs, and Paul Rudd is great. Apatow just sniffing his own farts as this point. Bloated movie and cast my wife and two daughters in big roles. Still good as much as I want to be a hater.

I have never seen my mum laugh so much at a film. On her 40th she was given a mug by my father, I have never seen her so cross in my life so this film was maybe too real

Sitcom: The Movie. Was this the beginning of way too long movies or just one of many of that time that was the same? Great cast, some funny moments, and a great 2012 time capsule, but, oh man, is this long. I get that I’m one in a long line of similar complaints of Judd Apatow, but wow.

Solid movie!!! At first to me it starts off slow but Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann do their thing especially later in the movie. Also Melissa McCarthy was a great addition and was very funny the whole time she was on screen.

“What’s the difference between a gay moustache and a straight moustache?” “The smell.” still pissed at Paul Rudd’s father in this. i would kill him with my bare hands.

Doesn’t fail to raise a chuckle but sort of a missed opportunity, a lot less memorable than Knocked Up.
-
M
Love that sequel was made in same universe. Wish Rogen was in it, even as small part. Guy that looks like Ross from Friends coworker. Lost lol.

✨
Marriage has become less and less appealing to me… at least we have a more realistic movie on what marriage can look like. And Paul Rudd is literally the best!
-
R
I think my husband wants to swap me out with Leslie Mann and I want to trade him in for Paul Rudd. Even Steven trade.

I couldn’t get over the fact that the voice actor for Marlin from Finding Nemo was asking his son for money.

This shit slaps. A classic Judd Apatow feel good comedy. A “coming of age” within its own proportions. What it means to get old with someone. Getting through hardships. I can see this movie hitting more and more as you get towards that 40 number. I can see it turning more and more into a horror. Leslie Mann is so good in this. I love her so dearly throughout this film. Grabs so much empathy from me. Paul Rudd is…
-
J
It’s way too long but had me laughing out loud so many times. It also makes me feel better about my own midlife and marriage because wow they are depressing!
-
D
Yet another Judd Apatow Paul Rudd piece. “I don’t think she’s wearing underwear, it’s all dark up there.” “Maybe she’s wearing dark underwear.” “Yeah or maybe she’s wearing underwear with a vagina painted on it.” Laughed out loud when Paul puts on Alice in Chains and brings the whole dance part mood down. Love that song and Alice in Chains. Albert Brooks pops up in the most random films, quite funny in this one. A block of porn? You can…

Used to be my favourite comedy film

a real family + paul rudd lol. this film is pretty long, it really would benefit the movie if it got shortened a bit.
