i first watched this when i was 8, then introduced it to my sister when she turned 8, and now it’s a staple for us. i don’t care what anyone says about this film. i will always have a soft spot for it.

Would have been a masterpiece had it came out in the 70s or very early 80s, and would have been directed by William Friedkin and starred Roy Scheider. If that was the case, Roy would have probably played a man who lost his family to a group of man-eating lions, and is out searching the sahara to find them and exact vengeance… Too bad it’s not that film. Cause this one downright stinks like a pair of raggedy old monkey balls!

🇿🇦 Sudáfrica Recuerdo cuando vi esta película, me parecio interesante el tema, de una familia encerrada en un auto descompuesto, rodeados de leones hambrientos, una historia que no sabia que era real. La película maneja el suspenso de una forma adecuada y tenaz sin embargo parece que a medida que la película avanza las ideas y los giros terminan, haciendola una película repetitiva y sin un objetivo claro. En lo personal es solo una película para pasar un buen domingo viendo cine en tu casa y nada más. Visto en TV

throwback to my parents showing me this movie when i was 7 and i was so deeply traumatised i’d have waking nightmares about it for weeks afterwards. looking back the high-tech expert hunter lion vision and ketchup blood effects are just ridiculously funny. really the dumbest movie ever made complemented by the dumbest ensemble of characters who make highly questionable decisions the entire way. suffice to say that in the battle of wits between man and lion i unapologetically rooted for the lions to triumph. funny as hell, hope the kid got to eat his promised hamburgers in the end

This movie used to go crazy when I was a kid but watching it now, there’s hardly any logic to it. Realistically would lions even go on a killing spree like this…??? This is also how I found out there’s like 50 movies named Prey and a startling amount are ALSO about lions.

the effects in this are pretty decent but this is fr one of the worst written animal attack movies i’ve ever seen. the choices these characters make made me feel like my head was spinning. my breathing became shallow and i wanted to throw my fist through my laptop, i may be really sick idk. just some of the most criminally annoying characters i’ve ever sat through. irritating experience. people just randomly forget how to drive a car.

Creo que está película presenta una buena historia en el género de supervivencia, que una familia se pierda en el safari y estén rodeados por leones es interesante. Sin embargo sus actuaciones son mediocres, es una película de bajo presupuesto y en algunas partes ni siquiera se siente esa tensión que los personajes intentan mostrar, usan mucho los planos medios y cerrados, funcionales pero no destacables. La escena que si me gustó fue cuando se quedan encerrados dentro del vehículo y comienzan a rodearlos los leones, tiene una base sólida la película pero no logra completarse.

There are apparently at least three movies with this title about people being terrorized by marauding lions. I would suggest skipping them all but if you’re looking for frenzied felines don’t miss the jaw-droppingly demented 1981 film ROAR.

This movie isn’t good, but it is a movie. With good acting all around, and a fun concept. The real problem is the writing. I haven’t seen this script but it just HAS TO BE the biggest pile of shit. Everything that I didn’t like about this movie can be chopped up to the writer being an idiot. That’s it. It’s excellently acted and if I’m being honest, the cast and the general thrill and tension in each scene are the only things that make this 3 stars. It wasn’t boring. I was entertained. I can’t believe this nuance-less, stock vision of African wildlife was directed by a South African man. Even the music felt like royalty free “African” music. They just had no interest in using this setting in a creative way. Everything is telegraphed, nothing is surprising, there are no thrills or excitement and there are no good performances. It took me 4 days to finish this movie because I kept popping melatonin and watching it in 20 minute intervals cuz I would always pass out during it and honestly that was for the best this movie felt like watching YouTube Short highlights with some of the most dumb and insufferable characters you will ever see but I do give it props for using live lions over CGI for most of the film as it gave it a unique spin to try to make it look like the lines were eating people when the lions were clearly never in the same area as the people

#1169 eu tinha o dvd desse filme na infância e era viciado. hoje em dia, obviamente, não envelheceu tão bem, mas entretém. o roteiro tem suas conveniências em alguns momentos e a edição não é a melhor do mundo em algumas cenas, mas acho que é bem amarrado e com um final ok. lembro também que eu achava a bridget moynahan a cara da sandra bullock.

So I love an animal actor, the ones in this movie were beautiful, no notes to the lions. I might argue that a holdout movie set in just a car doesn’t give itself a lot to do. It also had kinda weak interpersonal drama, I didn’t like any of these people enough to care about the step mom bonding with these kids.
