ok. this is approximately my 13th rewatch of les mis. almost everyone i respect says the movie is bad. finally starting to accept that maybe my abject affection for it is a glaring critical blindspot. at the same time, it still gives me genuine chills! the 3 song stretch of On My Own —> One Day More —> Do You Hear The People Sing? is bop city! Master Of The House goes so hard that, for a brief 5 minutes, i go full landlord rights activist! we WILL be sparing the thénardiers in the housing revolution. yum yum these boots were made for licking 😋

6.5/10 Hugh Jackman, sweetie, you really can’t sing (The book was absolutely phenomenal but I lowk hate musicals so this was just ok IMO)

i love this movie. it means so much to me and has had an immeasurable impact on my life. there are parts of it that are genuinely incredible. that being said. the more distance i get from the 2012 fandom and the more i watch other professional productions of les mis, the more i realize that this is a very bad adaptation and i don’t even like most of the performances and character portrayals. also the cinematography is crazy like why are there SO many dutch angles

Holy vibrato. What a stacked cast. Eddieeee Didn’t do a great job of making me feel invested. The characters felt a lot of emotion and conveyed that quite well but I did not. The last part was actually emotional and made me rate it higher because that was baller. I feel like I missed so much of the weight and meaning of everything, help me understand 🙏

Mamma Mia! Who knew that when put together, Wolverine, Steven Hawking, Catwoman, Maximus Decamis, Borat, and Belatraxalouse Strange could make a damn good musical

A masterpiece. Firstly, this story depicts two responses to grace. Valjean’s response is transformation, while Javert’s is rejection. Secondly, mercy is a common theme: notice everyone to whom Valjean shows mercy. And everyone who shows mercy to Valjean. Mercy vs. justice on display. Which will prevail? Thirdly, “to love another person is to see the face of God” gets me every time.

Preface: I had not seen, read or listened to Les Miserables in any shape way or form before this. Preface number two: I saw this in sing along showing at my local cinema. It was good! In its own way that is. Nearly every line in this whole film is delivered through song, something which I am slightly annoyed with. Like, I love musicals, maybe not the biggest fan ever, but some of my favorite films are musicals. I do…

obviously I just cried a lot. I didn’t bother counting! It’s a long movie and I know what happens in it. I have this sorta issue with film versions of musicals—they’re very claustrophobic to me! It always feels like they’re singing right up in my face on those close-up shots, and boy, does this movie have a lot of them. Sometimes it works well! Especially if you’re Anne Hathaway! But many other times I’m always kinda wishing to see wider…

loved this movie a lot. honestly my new favorite musical!

Rubbish and Hugh’s singing is double rubbish. Two stars for that 3 song stretch that was acc mint tho
-
B
Definitely too long for my taste, I thought overall the story is fire but I definitely understand the criticism of the singing at the camera with nothing else going on kinda killing it, I’m very positive the actual live musical of this would blow my damn tits off

Les Miserables is the only film I can recall that has a sequence of two characters falling in love in which there’s not a single shot of the two of them looking at each other. It’s a whole song with three characters singing at the same time in the same place consisting entirely of closeups.

i understand that the movie is based on the play but this wouldve been better if not all lines were being sung (like mamma mia) because some lines just fall flat eponine, you deserve so much better omfg the revolution and ending though… goosebumps

This is one of the best things I have ever watched in my entire life. I’ve never heard a Les Misérables song I’ve never read the work by Victor Hugo I have no nothing. No experience. I watched this completely naked and I am changed. Magnificent I remain in awe; furious at myself for never attempting to get familiar with the work earlier.

I watched this for the first time when I was as 9 years old in music class and was terrified of Anne Hathaway prostituting herself, not because I thought it was real but didn’t realise they could show that on tv and cried for half of the movie. Watching it now that scene makes me uncomfortable, sad but also laugh out loud, because why was he just laying there??? I couldn’t take it serious 😭 (lovely ladies makes even me shed a tear tho)

I first saw the musical in London with absolutely no idea of what the story was. My wife had to explain the whole thing to me afterwards because I was so lost, but it sounded really great. I finally got around to watching this movie and wow, it makes me want to go see the musical in theater again. An incredible story, and I think the movie did a great job with it!

genuinely loved! i’ve heard sm abt les mis in terms of the names of characters, knowing the songs, just seeing it EVERYWHERE cuz it’s probably one of if not THE most iconic piece of musical theatre ever written!!! obviously i didn’t watch the musical so im just judging the movie. can we talk abt how unrecognisable hugh jackman is in the first part!! i didnt even recognise him until a fair bit into it when he was just released from…

The music and story here are undeniably good! The downsides are the cast here at times. There’s some real standout performances here for sure but some are clearly here as they can just about hold a tune and they’re a big name to put on the film poster. Definitely some of the best songs in all of musical theatre are here so it’s a good time!

Not quite sure what I just watched but it wasn’t horrible Storytelling- phenomenal Singing- pitchy and cringey Hugh Jackman redeemed himself as a father in this compared to Greatest Showman Pov: young Erin sang Castle on a Cloud in middle school choir. We had to sit on the floor and pretend to scrub the floors while singing.

“Do you hear the people sing. Singing the song of angry men. It is the music of the people, who will not be slaves again. When the beating of the heart echos the beating of the drums. There is a life about to start when tomorrow comes.” ABSOLUTE CINEMA. I truly have nothing to say about this masterpiece. Very touching and emotional. “Oh my friends, my friends don’t ask me what your sacrifice was for. Empty chais at empty tables, where my friends will sing no more…”

Yeah good movie but all of that could have been avoided if he just went to Nice instead of back to Paris where Javert works. Like really does France have a population of 25 people? EXCELLENT MOVIE WITH GREAT MUSIC. Things That I noticed/observed/ thought!!: — The women workers immediate disliking to Fantine. How quickly they were to get her away because of how desperate they were for their own lives. People tend to be selfish when their struggling and fearful. The most devastating song I heard being Fantines song. Mainly the lyrics: “He filled my days with endless wonder. He took my childhood in his stride but he was gone when autumn came” OH…

Musikalernas musikal. Men påriktigt ingenting mer. Tyckte set designen kändes väldigt plastig. Hela filmen igenom egentligen.

I spent the whole film waiting for Hugh Jackman to sing properly, and then when he finally did for Bring Him Home it only made me angrier, knowing he could have done that for the whole movie. Russell Crowe gets the hate here, but he’s just a mediocre singer trying his best. Jackson is an excellent singer deliberately ruining the songs because he’s more concerned with his dramatic performance. He’s especially shown up by Samantha Barks and Eddie Redmayne, who…

Does the title not say enough? Insanely depressing movie, it messes with your soul how many people you grow to love just die. A lot of long songs as it is a musical. But granted, it is very well made and an interesting dynamic where you are not really sure and can’t decide who the actual bad guy is. Watched a while ago and still don’t want to watch again 😅

The Bishop is the real hero of the story. It’s so appropriate to see him here.
