U M W H A T T H E A C T U A L F U C K Edit: Letterboxd hid this review bc it didn’t “provide meaningful review content” so.. Loved the complex characters and dynamics explored, BIG fan of the sharp and smart dialogue. The cinematography, production design & visuals were, simply put, lush and indulging TREATS. The costumes? Loved those mfs too. Don’t even get me STARTED on Olivia, Emma and Rachel’s performances, having loved those three bitches I owe them my life! This movie made me laugh and cry and In Conclusion: this was some good! shit! Highly recommend. We good now @Letterboxd editorial team??? -2018 Ranked🍿

best picture showcase: film #1 “go?” at the beginning, the rabbits are kept in cages. and by the end, they roam loose in the queen’s room, free, but at what cost? were they better taken care of beforehand, or afterward? this definitely has the tightest script of the year and the most complex characters as well. the best movie nominated for best picture this year? maybe so “go”

“love has limits” for one, the burning of letters signifies regret, and maybe even growth in the direction of selflessness. and for another, it signifies moral decay, the choosing of one path with no way back. this is your life now, you’ve all made your bed and now you have to lie in it it would be one thing if i was just entertained or emotionally affected by this movie, but i think it’s probably my favorite screenplay of the year. the more i see it, the more i uncover. abigail first only longs for safety and still has room to be kind: later she sacrifices her kindness for the ultimate station of safety, but now luxury is included in…

Liked the music and the camera perspectives, but I liked a bit less the plot

Did not do it for me. I really don’t like the artsy films that just do really dry and abrupt line readings for the sake of vague artsyness. That’s kinda a main component of Yorgos Lanthimos movies and a lot of A24 stuff and it just doesn’t feel genuine. Like, if you see bad cgi in something, it sticks out like a sore thumb. In animation, everything is otherworldly so everything blends in. I feel like dialogue and editing like this is a massive crutch to write mid dialogue and mask it in artsy styling.

● Great movie but that final act, JESUS CHRIST, most uncomfortable I’ve felt in a while. ● Well written power dynamics, political and court intrigue and women what else do you need?

Yorgos Lanthimos cooked so hard: venomous women, absurd men, gorgeous cinematography, absolute courtly carnage, and god-tier performances from all three lovely, gorgeous leads Emma Stone, Olivia Colman, and Rachel Weisz….

very good, surprisingly gay, and quite sad. Great dark humour. I always am left feeling like something is missing after a Yorgos Lanthimos film… idk what it is a if i like that feeling or not, but its great art because i am left feeling and thinking and good art should do that

Period piece satire that looks like a skateboard video. I absolutely love it. A classic triangle drama with some hilarious dialogue, and a very engaging plot to boot, this one is probably my favorite (heh) next to poor things of all the Yorgos films i have seen so far. Gorgeous and lush sets, combined with some outrageously great costuming, this film definetly is a looker. It’s so effortlessly funny as well, and made me audbily laugh many times throughout. Highly recommended

This is basically a lesbian love triangle with a monarchical style and some very deep messages. Love it!

“Hell. I’m sure you shall pass through it one day.” I saw this twice in a single day when it came out, because watching a movie with a high school freshman film class is 99% of the time a bad idea. I thought it was great then, but in the years since I saw it, this just slowly just blossomed its way into another one of my all-time favorites alongside KOASD, Poor Things and The Lobster. It honestly just speaks…

Entertaining movie. Funny and tragic, mostly responded to the funny. Performances were great. Cinematography is very unique especially for its setting. The soundtrack is also notable. Overall good. Edit: I wrote that review never having read or watched or heard any commentary or promotion or anything else on the movie other than seeing Olivia Colman’s Oscar acceptance speech. Upon reading other reviews, I’m starting to realize that watching movies half asleep sideways might make me part of the problem, part…

oliviaaaaaaaa i find the women in yorgos’s films tend to be flat, underdeveloped (despite emma’s incredible acting) and simply characterised BUT i really liked this one and I felt the people on screen were whole entire beings !!! (so much 0.5x)

I love this film like nobody’s business. It’s one I come back to every time that I am having issues within my own filmmaking practice and I just think, yeah. I’ll be okay I love this one! I still think it had some of the strongest performances I have ever seen by Olivia Coleman and I love the ending scene so much it’s something I reference mentally. Yep!

This movie is so intelligently dense. The plot twists and turns and secretly builds momentum until the end hits you like a train. I’m going to be thinking about this one a lot.

I enjoyed the themes of ruthless social climbing, toxic codependency, and power struggles within the class system. The cut to classical music each time something absurd happened felt so normal, yet it heightened the story’s direction. This was such a stunning film; the use of wide angles to create a warped, disorienting aesthetic even made me feel sick, but in a good way. I really should’ve started exploring Yorgos Lanthimos’s filmography with this film, especially his collaborations with Emma Stone,…

Another total banger from Yorgoat Lanthimos. I knew he had another 5 in him and I knew I had to watch this one when I saw my flight had it for free. Editing and cinematography was so peak. TOP TIER performances all around. Super captivating. The set pieces wow. Thought provoking wow. Couldn’t have asked for more out of this. Further solidified my theory that Stone and Plemons bring out the best in Yorgos that just doesn’t seem to click for me the same when he’s working with Colin Farrell. No hate to bro though.

Even though I find some of Yorgos Lanthimos’ films average at best, his cinematography aside, The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017) and Bugonia (2025) are two films I love. I happened to watch The Favourite (2018) last, after watching all of his other work, despite its popularity. Only issue is that the stakes never really get high, and the ending doesn’t raise them either. Still, it’s solid. Made me want to rewatch Saltburn (2023). Some nice songs: Trumpet Sonata in…

Great performances from the three leads, and Nicholas Hoult. Olivia Coleman was convincing as Queen Anne and I liked how they showed her deterioration over time (without making it clear whether time was passing or if Sarah was a good influence/kept her healthy) Tell about the rabbits, George

I fucking loved this movie idk. Olivia colman emma stone Rachel weisz are all soooo good it’s not even funny and even Nicholas holt gags… had a great time and the ending scene really brought this movie up from a 4 to a 4.5 … obv directing is great yorgos is usually gaggy but I didn’t expect to like this one sm!!
