I could talk about how this film’s structure finally achieves the blissful melancholy that has been at the heart of all of Wes Anderson’s films. I could talk about the precision of his framing and tracking shots, and how often he finds visual comedy through a perfect edit, or the slight entrance of new material into the frame. I could talk about how depressing the film is, the hints of both a traumatizing past, and that in a way, Sam and Suzy try and burn a memory so deep into their minds that they can create a traumatized memory they want to remember (perhaps best seen by Suzy’s scream during her ear piercing – “do the other one”). I could…

such a wonderful movie that i didn’t appreciate as a kid. my heart explodes for this movie. a slightly underrated wes anderson movie, maybe because of the awkward pre-teen intimacy in the middle and the young cast occasionally make the quirky dialogue seem more stilted – however anderson is clearly aware of this and so the movie is fairly dialogue light, relying more on evoking certain moods & emotions through well crafted sequences and striking imagery. this movie, on a personal…

Moonrise Kingdom is such a sweet and quirky film. What I liked about this film was the distinctiveness in each and every one of the characters, including Sam and Suzy, who have the essence of kids who just don’t seem to fit in anywhere else. This film has everything that a classic Wes Anderson film should have, but beneath all the humour and aesthetic shots, is a heartwarming story.

One of the sadder Wes Anderson flicks, if not the saddest. Liked how the kids felt like real kids – naive, sure, but not really innocent. The Scouts captured the feeling of being a grody little teen/preteen quite well. And on the other hand, we have Sam and Suzy finding a beautiful connection/refuge from their troubled lives. Their little kingdom might be short lived, might be forever, but it’s something beautiful that they get to share together. But my favorite part comes from Edward Norton. Norton really sells being a true believer/dweeb/good dude to the point that you can’t help but root for his success.

There’s this Wes Anderson spark where they do this pan then focus to and it all being like just looking from the side at the characters. This long type moving with them and how far they go and the camera not changing angles for a while. His worlds are always so empty and full at the same time in my opinion. The films do seem to get more colorful and whimsical like the later you get like Astroid city is…

an impending storm with an explosive result reflected in children on the precipice of emotions that they feel they can control on their own. does that make sense? i feel for these listless children and the community that tries to form around them as they yearn to disconnect. tenderness and compassion may not heal everything but it’s damn well better than nothing! hehe wes anderson i hate that i love your films 🙂 But harvest fields in the following autumn far exceeded any previously recorded, and the quality of the crops was said to be extraordinary.

I always love when adults are kind in movies both to their kids and to each other. extra points for kids, for the most part, learning how to do the same. wes anderson—you’re on thin fucking ice but somehow, incredibly, you almost never fall. I love you, but you don’t know what you’re talking about.

I can see some of the charm in this, but honestly the whole thing made me feel super icky. Having a 12 year old girl dancing in underwear on film is not okay.

- Synopsis
- Set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, Moonrise Kingdom tells the story of two twelve-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together into the wilderness. As various authorities try to hunt them down, a violent storm is brewing off-shore – and the peaceful island community is turned upside down in more ways than anyone can handle.
