I just checked out Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War on Prime Video. I thought this was mid at best. I’ve never seen the show before but I thought this was just mediocre. A bunch of simple action scenes that I’ve already seen before. For example the gun fights/car chases were extremely basic. Some scenes were very slow and boring. The villain was just stock and plain. John Krasinski does a decent job though. I did enjoy seeing the villain get gunned down by a chopper and then by Jack Ryan. Overall nothing special but a decent watch. This seemed like a resetting of the table place… setting(ugh sorry) in which we were already acquainted with. Sure a lot of espionage very few characters to trust and we have Jack R(Jack K) mindfully trying to walk these lines in gaining trust while also not holding confidence in others. Honestly it’s serviceable and I love the cast but it felt performative and besides some action elements, I found myself somewhat disengaged with the material. I think it’s gonna work with some people cause it hit’s a lot of the old same notes but not for thee.

Never seen the show as I’ve never cared about Jack Ryan that much, although I have seen all the movies. Maybe knowing the show would improve this, but as is, it’s pretty generic. It was shot well enough and the acting is solid, but the story did not interest me at all. Things happen and I never really cared about why. There are some decent action beats, but it’s like a poor man’s Mission Impossible. I didn’t hate it or anything, but it’s forgettable.

Il y a suffisamment d’action, de courses-poursuites et de combats pour garder un bon rythme, avec John Krasinski qui reprend toujours aussi bien le rôle de Jack Ryan Le casting est également très solide avec Wendell Pierce, Michael Kelly et Sienna Miller, qui apportent chacun quelque chose à cette nouvelle mission. L’intrigue autour de la conspiration et de cette unité clandestine dissidente fonctionne plutôt bien, même si le scénario reste assez classique dans le genre.

Well, this is just like the tv series, but more streamlined, so a lot of the dull chit chat bits were taken out and pretty much every ‘action’ scene now involves firing very loud guns. Still, the series was good and John Krasinski was great in this too so hopefully they will do more movies.

Definitely liked it more than most and it could either be a 3/5 or a 3.5/5, depending on the watch. A solid continuation of the tv show. It has its faults and the script could’ve been better, but the positives outweigh the negatives. It was nice seeing the characters back together with some good callbacks here and there, the action sequences were well done, and it was an enjoyable watch. Enough said.

Jack Ryan deserves better than a passport full of explosions and a personality left at home. Ghost War turns what was once a compelling CIA operative into a generic action hero, racing from one international set piece to the next without giving John Krasinski much of a character to play.
