Look, I get people’s frustration with the breakneck editing or the camera’s relentless shaking, but for a movie revolving around movement, whether that be a 1v1 fight with a magazine, pacing in the conference room waiting for a call, or the classic look over your shoulder paranoia— that constant air of tension wouldn’t exist without the kinetic energy of the camera. And I think I love that.

80/100 While The Bourne Identity showcased amnesia as a quiet, escalating threat, The Bourne Supremacy is jagged in its abstractions and its bursts of frazzled, instinctive action set-pieces. A traditional, gradual spy concept morphed into a paranoiac frenzy over the course of two installments, replacing mournful “man on the run” beats with an array of textured glimpses and horrors. Paul Greengrass evokes memory as literal absence; a fleeting, “blink and you’ll miss it” visual précis of situations structured from ground level tasks to the sniveling corruption at the top floor. Only issue is – at least until Ultimatum – that these films aren’t *about* anything, instead impulsively relying on movement, or the lack thereof, and the color within those spaces.…

I remember this being my favorite one back in the day. Except now I feel like I prefer the first. This one lacks the emotional core, killed off to kickstart the conflict. Similarly, there’s a distinct lack of sympathetic villain. A weary Clive Owen is replaced instead with an effectively menacing young Karl Urban. The car chase is still among the best. The spycraft-in-action scratches a very specific genre itch. The Knife vs Rolled Up Magazine fight is exactly the sort of face off I never tire of seeing. And again, Julia Stiles, could I persuade you to save the last dance?

Watching this feels like solving a puzzle. A man wants to lead a new life, but his super special spy skills and spy enemies keep resurfacing—poor Bourne (but also not really). The first movie in the franchise remains my favorite, but this comes close. It is still a nice watch.

Get some rest, Pam! You look tired! Not as good as the first movie, but still pretty good. I was very disappointed that they killed off Marie so early in the movie. I would have loved to see them partner up and fight as a team. I liked the character of Pam and the internal power fight with Abbott. The movie was suspenseful and smart. Just some of the fighting scenes used too much of the shaky camera.

I used to love this way more back when it first released. Surprised me how much it dragged this time. Very dialogue-heavy and at times, very slow. I’d still consider this to be riveting stuff narratively all thanks to the screenplay and the source material. It’s a cool story in a tired genre and the cast is exceptional. The story is taken seriously and it doesn’t fall victim to playing things for laughs or compromising spectacle for eye-roll moments. Matt…

People are usually opposed to quick cuts during an action/fight sequence but it did not bother me much during this. Bourne has to move rather quickly and get a step ahead in which the editing very much shows. RIP Marie

This is a really good movie if you can avoid feeling nauseous. I definitely prefer the grittier more grounded approach to spycraft found in the Bourne franchise then the high flying stunts of Ethan Hunt. I think at the time people felt like the shaky cam aggressive editing style added to the gritty raw feeling of these movies. That take has had not aged well. With a more locked down camera this movie could have been even better.

62/100 The Bourne Supremacy, in my opinion, doesn’t reach the heights that The Bourne Identity reached during my viewing. Even though the style of the first film was already interesting and quite original, I feel like the second one reuses a lot of the same formula. Towards the end, it even becomes a little repetitive. I also think we lose some of the charm of the first film’s simplicity. The story becomes more complex and the movie feels more dense.…

I have a feeling I’m missing something… like maybe I should of seen something before this one… This movie has like, one really good scene; everything else is just motion sickness that happens so fast you lose track of what’s happening, and soon also lose interest.

  61. F
    Francesco De Bastiani 8 月 22, 2026

Following the events of the first movie, the second one ends the circle. I’m a bit disappointed for how the film starts, since there’s a big turning point that I didn’t understand. I can imagine the reasons for that, but it looks like mostly a shock-value choice. The Bourne Supremacy recovers quickly with peak action, still raw and “realistic”. Jason still doesn’t know anything about himself, and the things he discovers throughout the movie scare him and as a spectator…

Other than the plot being a bit confusing at times— leaving me feeling like I might’ve missed something—it was a really solid sequel. The main things that hold it back are the writing which feels mundane at times, also the CIA seems too naive and Bourne has a bit too easy a time predicting their moves
