Can you find the wolves in this picture? Triumphant, in every sense of the word. Seamlessly blends that classic Scorsese crime drama with a harrowing romance to create something bold and profoundly tragic. There isn’t a single wasted minute, every frame has purpose. Avarice, violence, betrayal— it’s all here and portrayed with a deep respect for the Osage people. At times it feels I’m watching career bests from everyone on the screen, but undoubtedly Gladstone is who shines the brightest, chewing the scenery of every frame. It’s a movie I want to watch every year for the rest of my pitiful life just to experience that ending again. Podcast Ep. 143- Killers of the Flower Moon Reaction + Review

I just wanted more Mollie. I wanted to know her better. I wanted to feel and better understand her love for Ernest more. I wanted her friends and family to privately voice their suspicions of Ernest, only for her to dismiss the idea that he could ever be behind this. The betrayal in this story is raw and potent, and yet, I feel like there could have been so much more to it if the movie elected to give her perspective an equal amount of screentime to Ernest’s. I don’t think the movie was too long; it remained gripping the whole way through and I can’t point to anything that should be cut. But…maybe this story was too big for…

I’ve always been so proud to be Osage. I’m so thankful that I have a father that instilled that identity in me from a young age, as well as a non-Indigenous mother who has always reinforced it. But being Indigenous comes with a heavy load. All too often, it feels that we’re carrying on our ancestors’ Sisyphean task of struggling to become more visible and have our issues heard by non-Indigenous communities. So when I heard years ago that this story I had grown up hearing was being adapted into a feature film and that none other than MARTIN SCORSESE was directing it, I was knocked off my feet. I also had conflicting thoughts. On one hand, this was an…

How the man is still this on top of his game is beyond me. It’s a lyrical, slow motion, contemplative journey into the heart of evil. Lily Gladstone, is wow, incredible as Mollie. Leo brings a depth and nuance I’m not sure I’ve ever seen from him. De Niro is making my skin crawl. There are a couple sequences in here that are those kinds of haunting images that I know will be hard to shake. Yeah it’s long, but I only really felt the running time physically. It’s gripping and expertly paced. Nobody is doing 4th acts like Late-Scorsese.

Another banger from Scorsese, Lily really should have won best actress. Leo’s reaction to Anna’s death is the first time I’ve teared up in a Scorsese film. I’m not going to lie though, I did not f with the bit near the end where we learned the resolution through that show. They could have found a better way to do it. Who would have thought a Martin Scorsese love story would’ve been this compelling. 9/10 (Also, this film makes Scorsese the second director that I’ve given seven different nine out of tens (or higher).

It shows how greed can make humans inhuman, convincing them that every sin is justified if it serves their vision of a “better” world. But beneath that illusion lies the inevitable destruction of people, cultures, and ultimately the very humanity they claim to be building a new world for.

A deeply moving film! I will say it had its flaws though. I wanted to know mollie and the rest of the Osage more. These are a group of people that have been wronged time and time again by white people, I wanted to see more of their distrust or at least understand why they loved the white people they did. Mollie seemed so smart but I can’t understand why she would love Ernest at all. Also, I wanted to…

What ticks me off the most, is not only my K-12 education of American history, but also my COLLEGE education of American history never mentioned this horrible tragedy. I’m so grateful for the historical documentary films out there that teach me lessons I had no clue about, but I should’ve already known this. I mean let’s face it, if you’re a white American, I bet you’ve never even heard of the Osage tribe itself.

Assez déçu par Killers of the Flower Moon.

Jason Isbel? Sturgil Simpson? Jack White? Martin Scorsese!? It’s genuinely a great movie. A little long, I’ll admit, but I never found myself too bored at all. I’ve been bored way more watching some of Scorsese’s other works. Could’ve been a little more about Mollie than it was too tbh. But the whole thing was beautifully shot. The acting was good. The music was great. Could’ve been shorter, but it’s Scorsese, would it have been any other way? I was…

REVIEW #200!!!!! Awesome to really earn it with review #200. Meaty and epic. Not a film that’s particularly fun to rewatch given how much of it centers around moving the very interesting plot forward (once you’re familiar with it, a lot of the fun is missing) and the degree to which it lacks interiority (interiority tends to make rewatching more engaging I’ve noticed recently.) Still, this is a marvel. Soundtrack and production design felt off to me on this viewing. Functions better as a 3.33 hour film than it would as a 2. I love the patience this film has.

The only things I can think about when engaging with this legendary film are 1) this is the reason we invented movies 2) We should’ve built a 200 foot tall solid gold statue in Lily Gladstone’s honor for her work in this movie

First of all, Land Back. Immediately. This was a well done mafia movie and I expect nothing less from Scorcese. William Hale is an excellent villain and I never trusted him at all. Earnest was a loser that would have been a vagabond after returning from war because he only knows petty crime. I don’t understand Mollie falling for him. She wasn’t stupid. I think it was just proximity to whiteness and the agency that comes with it. The Osage…

3 hours and a half just to remind myself of what people did and keep doing for oil and money. Pretty good film about greed and discrimination, mixing strong performances from Gladstone and DiCaprio, and adding some social commentary about indigenous people and how to this day they keep being mistreated. A very interesting watch. First time watching a Martin Scorsese movie in the big screen and I wasn’t disappointed. I always love a crime thriller taking place in the early 1900s. It was quite lengthy, and I felt it dragged a little in places, but otherwise, it was a very good watch.

I really love when a movie takes you somewhere you’ve never seen before. Watching this movie transported me to this really specific slice of life in early 20th century Oklahoma, a world I knew nothing about prior to this. This movie is nothing at all like what I thought it would be from the trailers. I like that the movie takes detours from its central mystery to keep building the setting. The movie was made loosely on the true crimes in 1920. Where a Indian tribe in Oklahoma on the land had oil which made them rich. I rewatched this again and man what an incredible movie. I feel like Scorsese doesn’t get the credit he deserves for KOTFM and Irishman being his last two films at his age. Usually when directors start getting older they lose their fastball and have a dip in quality but Martin is on a Barry Bonds type of late career trajectory. The cast in this is amazing, awesome to see him do a movie with both his main two actors in…

Very much a long and enjoyable story! Honestly quite a fantastic and thrilling film from Martin Scorsese (for the most part) Truly just a film about the exploitation of Native American women for the wealth of greedy men. When u think it is actually horrible.. these sole less men are doing literally anything for power.. Tut tut Tut I feel the first 1hr and 45m were definitely 4.5 star worthy.. but after that point the story really slipped and was a lot more dull and long paced as the court case continues. A very good adaptation and is worth watching when finishing the Scorsese catalogue.

This is my favorite film from 2023 and will probably make my top ten from this decade. Strikingly beautiful and agonizing, an improvement over the already great book. The choice to shift perspective from the FBI to Ernest and Hale is so smart. Strips the story of mystery and most other genre elements, leaving us to follow and chew on the actions of these deeply evil and stupid men and the suffering they wrought. What an unbelievable set of performances…

Fotografia bellissima.
-
J
You could cut an hour out of this movie and make it a better and easier watch. It is needlessly lengthy for what is quite a simple story. Acting was solid, it was just too long, it took me three sittings to get through it!
-
C
My main takeaway is that this could have been about 90 minutes shorter.

undoubtedly, Scorsese couldn’t make artless, agenda-driven cinema. killers of the flower moon is subtle and carefully crafted — especially considering Nolan next door, for whom the agenda is simply part of the promo campaign and just shiny toy to march with. and then here are the women — beautifully written, deep, flesh and blood. Mollie and her mother especially. after all those superficial, flat female characters of the noisy white-man (you know the name). it’s hardly a coincidence that the…

You don’t need to watch movies about serial killers to see one. Just watch “Killers of the Flower Moon,” a film based on a true story. It’s shocking to see the evil some people can feel, even capable of killing their own children for money. What makes us moral beings?

-
N
I love the structure that Scorsese used to tell this epic. Every reveal is slow paced and allows for the audience to connect the dots. The characters motives and details surrounding their emotions are capped off by the best examples of “subtle” acting in Scorsese’s filmography. The runtime may be daunting, but any scene with DiCaprio or Gladstone makes the runtime feel heavy and dramatic. I was surprised with how much I enjoyed this film. Usually don’t care for early 1900s set non-war movies

This movie is fantastic but the score is next level. Robbie Robertson’s final score before his passing is incredible! A few of the reasons why: – Robbie is actually from my neck of the woods (Brantford, Ontario and Six Nations Of The Grand River) – Robbie basically recorded another RL Burnside album – I couldn’t get his 1999 masterpiece “Wish I Was In Heaven Sitting down”. Check it out. Great companion album in my mind – Robbie, The Band, Marty, just rip!

I had been meaning to watch this ever since getting the Criterion release earlier this year. I purchased the book last month and finished it earlier today, and so I figured now was the best time to rewatch it. Here’s the thing, I only have one gripe with the film. It is the length. The story being told is great, but the pacing is so slow. Martin Scorsese draws this out to a whopping 3.5 hours. The performances by Lily Gladstone, Robert De Niro, and Leo DiCaprio are phenomenal, so they make this bearable. The story itself is tragic, filled with greed and betrayal, but the FBI investigation starts like 2.5 hours in. Maybe I’ll come to appreciate it…

i really did like this movie but man i cant smoke while watching these 3.5h epics i just space out after a while i think it could have lost half an hour easy but still great, i loved the performances, especially the main woman, the sadness in her eyes really got to me also love to see Leo playing this dumb ass idiot. so often we see him as these charming and cunning dudes but not here. This movie is a masterpiece; making a 3 hour long movie that’s able to have a perfect pace to keep the movie flowing is a challenge. Great movie made even better by the fact that it seems to be quite historically accurate, not just a tall tale preceded by “Based on a true story”. KOTFM makes it very clear up front how the story unfolds, leaving me with a pit in my stomach for a solid two hours. Visuals, pacing, dialogue, sound design, all top notch, truly a great work of storytelling. Brendan Fraser did so bad though I dont know what that was but its just a nitpick, didn’t like the music they used in that second scene introducing LDC’s character. Lily gladstones performance sticks out as the most memorable. Really really enjoyed this one, just a great use of the art form.

It’s tough to put this into words, but I’m impressed. Absolutely loved this movie, it’s tough to find a critique. Maybe the fact that it’s pretty slow/long? I absolutely loved it, visuals were incredible and I thought they did a great job telling the story.

An even better watch the second time around. Lily Gladstone has the incredible ability to make you feel so much and hold so much presence without saying a word. Scenes I loved: -when Lizzie passes and she opens her eyes to find those who are bringing her to the other realm. I love how in that moment, death is something that is so peaceful. It’s a homecoming. And that’s so beautiful. That it’s not something to be afraid of, but…

Killers of the Flower Moon or as I like to call it There *Actually* Will Be Blood is a great film from the greatest living director Martin Scorsese. Like my little joke of a re-title implies, it’s a far more moving portrayal of the effects of capitalism, greed for oil and its social effects than the celebrated PTA movie that seemingly actually influenced it (although the Anderson film is stronger in other ways). In more than one way Scorsese spends…

For Scorsese, not that great. Interesting story though. Wish there was more to it.

A film about greed that never really needs to raise its voice. What makes it disturbing is how ordinary the evil feels. No grand villains, just people slowly turning money into an excuse for everything. The scale is massive, but the film keeps bringing it back to one marriage and the damage happening inside it. By the end, it feels less like a crime story and more like a study of how power can make cruelty look completely normal.

Watched this at the Spectrum with my father and his friend. A very long film, but a story that needed to be told. Lily Gladstone was robbed of the Oscar IMO.

Saw this one in the theater yesterday… I was apprehensive about a 3.5 hour runtime. That’s a long time to sit in a theater with no break. And while it was certainly a long time, the movie kept my interest enough to not be bored and start wishing it would finish, which is what I feared would happen. Killers of the Flower Moon is based on the true story of the murders of the members of the Osage nation, after…
