This movie remains a ton of fun. The over-the-top opening is an unintentional(?) parody of every 80’s action film. Stallone looks amazing. Sandra Bullock has more charm than you can shake a stick at, delivering nonsensical dialogue in a way that makes you believe it. Wesley Snipes is totally unhinged. Sadly, it suffers from a vision of the future that’s too outlandish. Hard to believe that we will ever end up in a situation where people feel comfortable being casually racist to Asians, there’s no toilet paper anywhere, the government has the technology to monitor people’s every movement, everyone has access to video calling via screens that are ubiquitous, and people are afraid to touch each other for fear of transmitting disease.

“Mellow greetings, citizen.” “You Mickey Mouse piece of shit.” “What seems to be your boggle?” “C’mon you space age piece of shit.” “Be well.” “Be fucked.” “You are a savage creature John Spartan, and I wish for you to leave my domicile now!” “You’re out of toilet paper.” “Yes. The Schwarzenegger Presidential Library.” “Okay. Let’s go blow this guy.” *Extended bit taken directly from Denis Leary’s actual standup* “…a 47 year-old virgin in gray pajamas soaking in a bubble bath, drinking a broccoli milkshake and thinking ‘I’m an Oscar-Meyer Wiener’.” “Bad language, chocolate, gasoline, uneducational toys and anything spicy.” “Thanks a lot you shit-brained, fuck-faced, ball breaking, duck fucking pain in the ass.” ~This concludes this episode of “Out Of Context Demolition Man Actual Quotes Theater*” *Sponsored by Taco Bell

Thought I was going insane when I watched this for the first time in 20 years because everyone was talking about Pizza Hut instead of Taco Bell and then I realized I was watching a rip of a European release where they replaced it because nobody outside the US knew what Taco Bell was.

“If you’d read my study, you would know this is how insecure heterosexual males used to bond.” or “Now all restaurants are Taco Bell.” One of my favorite future fascist dystopias, an amalgam of conservative and liberal nightmares, all equally exaggerated. Subtly but completely corporatized, racially and sexually not so much egalitarian as homogenized, nothing unpleasant ever happens, the undesirables are safely out of sight and mind underground, Denis Leary is a legitimate revolutionary for Godssakes, and everyone is a total wiener who literally can’t even wipe their ass properly. We need Sly on that wall.

100 I wish I could travel back in time and yell at my 8-year-old self for choosing to rent Judge Dredd instead of this. What was I thinking? Demolition Man is a gonzo dystopian 90s action film, and an instant favorite. Stallone vs. Snipes. Sandra Bullock being as charming as humanly possible. Absolutely impeccable production design by David L. Snyder that alternates between the surface looking like the what if meme while the underground resistance is something out of a post-apocalyptic Rainforest Cafe. Full of tactile, rapid-fire action set-pieces and an all-consuming science-fiction world that’s aged surprisingly well. This is a silly movie but it’s enormously entertaining – the type of ambitious analog blockbuster movie-making that just doesn’t happen any…

Seem to remember it being alot better in the 90s. Still worth a watch though, and take it for what it is. An action / comedy cheese fest that is still good fun. Also, still trying to work out the 3 seashells…

Wesley Snipes was on One Hundred the whole movie and he was Awesome! Simon was a great ruthless Bad guy. Reminded me of a Batman villain especially with Elliot Goldenthal’s brass heavy score in the background.

they could never make me hate you demolition man additionally i accidentally watched the international version which has all mentions of “taco bell” very poorly dubbed over to say “pizza hut” and it is so bad it honestly adds alot to the charm of this film

An incredibly fun action comedy, some of the bits are actually perfect like the swear tickets constantly going off in the background. Holy hell did he have to kick his goddamn head off??

There’s an Arnold joke in this and it just made me think how much better the movie would be with him instead of Stallone. Wesley Snipes is the man, though. Also enjoyed the museum having a “Hall of Violence” and the swear fining machine.

No kiss kiss, no bang bang. A fun sci-fi action movie with some good performances from Sylvester Stallone and Sandra Bullock, and a great performance by Wesley Snipes. I remember thinking that this movie was more crazy and over-the-top when I had watched it in the past. It’s still very goofy with some solid gags, but I feel like years of what the sci-fi/comic book movie has become maybe lessens that impact some. It’s still a good movie, and if…

Snipes is a fucking menace in this super entertaining, self-aware, kick-ass film. The humour worked so well, I was laughing my ass off the entire time. Gotta get the Arrow BD one day!

Reel Review: Demolition Man is a fun sci-fi action flick. The movie seems like a typical Stallone B-movie but has a dystopian setting that allows for some relevant social commentary. This future is one in which the fascists have taken over, so the libertarians had to form an underground society. It’s also funny and full of fun fight scenes and chases. I’ve watched it numerous times and it never ceases to entertain and make me think about politics and our…

Most bizarre piece of soft copaganda – albeit with a fairly liberal anti-facist streak running through it – that I’ve seen to date. Was digging some the silly dialogue, score and action (intentional or not), the maximalist 90s vibe sci-fi projections and some social satire that’s even more biting 30 years on from the film’s release.

I bet John Spartan’s favorite HP character was Seamus

Love to see Stallone stand against these damn pacifist future geeks and take down the criminals the good old fashioned way.

Sylvester Stallone repartiendo hostias como panes, Wesley Snipes haciendo un gran papel como ese villano tan excéntrico y Sandra Bullock… Uff, Sandra Bullock. Yo dejaría que hicieras lo que quisieras conmigo.

I got a tip that there was a Pizza Hut version out there for the Euro market. This replaced the Taco Bell scene with a Pizza Hut one. Good excuse to rewatch 👍 The dubbing of the words is really funny to me as it doesn’t match their lips. It’s just funny that they didn’t shoot both sets of dialog 😂 it feels kind of cheap. Random thought not really movie related: It still makes me laugh that Sylvester Stallone’s name is Sylvester 😆

Film 225/365 Amazing what they thought 2032 would be like. Entirely peaceful society, no murder since 2010. No sex, abortion, pregnancy, meat, smoking, alcohol and salt. LOL. Also no salt would have killed the population out. Also had forgotten about the no toilet paper, three seashell arse action. I’d have been swearing so much I had a supply for years. Also, the version NOW TV have has the Pizza Hut for Taco Bell edits for the European market but the subtitles were US generated and were peppered with references to Taco Bell.

Wesley and Sly were the perfect cat and mouse. Batman and Joker. Fire and Ice. Underrated action movie and definitely deserving of more recognition out of both Sly and Wesley’s respective Filmographies.

I was looking forward to this but man did it disappoint. The future world becomes uninteresting as we spend more and more time in it. I get it’s supposed to be milquetoast but there are too many boring conversations with no tension. The action is good but like many other aspects such as the quippy leads I was reminded of Face/Off. Go watch Face/Off. It’s better than this on every level. I guess the only thing different is Sandra Bullock’s happy-go-lucky character. I was expecting her to be your usual serious heroine so it was a nice surprise. Hope she wasn’t his daughter…!

Film: Demolition Man Release Year: 1993 Director: Marco Brambilla Runtime: 115 minutes Genre: Action, Science Fiction Demolition Man is a very fun action science fiction movie from the greatest year of all time, 1993, and it has nothing to do with it being my birth year. Wesley Snipes plays a villain and one of my favourites, Sylvester Stallone, is on his ass. I was recently re-watching “Daylight” and I needed more Stallone. I didn’t remember much about this because it’s…

Wesley Snipes, joyous psychopath, a pleasure to behold. I think the reason this movie never really caught on as trendy in any sort of way is because it is so deeply empty inside. For all of its wackadoo hyper-stylization, all its ideas are just super-predators, corporatization, and literal PC-police. It’s just what the average person genuinely thought the world was at the time. People remember the shell bit because it’s the only joke in the whole movie that sticks in your brain for longer than it takes the characters to say it.

It gives me joy-joy feelings to have loved this movie for so long only to realize now that it is, by far, one of the most prescient movie about the future ever made.
