Marries the adventurous spirit of Grand Budapest with a specific type of warmth and humanity I haven’t seen from Wes since Tenanbaums. There’s a shot of Benedict Cumberbatch in this destined to become a real all-timer gif

“myself, I feel very safe.” any wes anderson film is automatically good in my books; this one was fun to watch and followed a very wes anderson-esque plot. while it was obviously lacking in some places, nonetheless it was fun and intriguing. each character had their own convictions and beliefs as well as their own seperate reasons for doing what they do, which I appreciated, and of course wes anderson finally hopping onto michael cera rather than timothée chalamet was much appreciated.

All my favorite Wes Andersonisms are present here: beautiful color palettes, thoughtful framing, small absurdities in plot or dialogue, snappy, rapid-fire conversation, interesting characters I can’t look away from played by some of his favorite actors, and tons of attention to the little details. The plot want necessarily convaluted, but I at times struggled to make sense of what was happening or the overall goals of our main character, but not in a way that took me out of any given scene. “Why do you need to always keep assassinating me all the time?”

Enjoyed this much more than I thought I would. Solid characters, solid plot, solid visuals as usual. While I always like what Anderson does, this felt like a return to concise family dramedy writing while still working within his modern hijinks. Not reinventing the Anderson wheel, but rediscovering what made him so compelling as a storyteller in the first place.

This movie is hilarious and ridiculous and I love it! This was my first Wes Anderson film and he just blew me away, the way he can go from this hilariously goofy energy to super serious in an instant is incredible and while being some of the most pleasing cinematics I’ve ever seen is beyond me this movie is a masterpiece and will be a classic.

uncle Nubar was way too funny in this. I dont think theres any Wes Anderson where has nothing of substance to say. Here it is not absolutely style over substance. However, what he has to say is very generic and boring. It can be very funny at parts, and the whole cast gives good performances (especially michael cera who im glad is finally in a Wes movie and he kills it), but it feels empty for the most part. It…

i went into this film knowing VERY little about the plot and was very pleasantly blown away. very classic wes anderson adventure with beautiful visuals (nobody is surprised though) loved watching the slow unraveling of Liesl as she became more deeply involved with her father and his scheming (more color in her makeup/ costuming, picking up vices and other earthly tethers) and the soundtrack!!! omgomgomg

Goddamn Benedict Cumberbatch looks crazy in this. Pretty enjoyable though, definitely has all the classic visual hallmarks of a Wes Anderson Joint between the very clearly framed cinematography, shifting camera movement, and colorful scenes. I think the core of this film is the relationship between Zsa-Zsa and Liesl, and it’s pretty straightforward. Zsa-Zsa wants to get close to her after his many visions of death, and she mostly goes along with it. Her time as a nun allowed her to…

I think Wes Anderson is in dire need of a return to form. This film is, to date, the only one of his that I legitimately got bored watching. Once a charming trademark, Anderson’s flat, stage-like backdrops, symmetrical framing and pastel color palette worked in consort with the (often child) characters’ intentionally eccentric mode of speech to create something truly unique and deserving of praise. As the years have gone on, however, I fear that Anderson’s style has become less authentically “him”… and moreso flanderized into a caricature of what it used to be. I fear my goat is washed…
