the temple of doom of robocop sequels: cruel, messy, bloated, crass, overly ambitious, more of a montage of neat scenes than a coherent plot, and absolutely invested in entertaining the audience at all costs. god bless 80s frank miller writing and phil tippett’s powerhouse stop motion effects

“Jesus had days like this.” “Make ‘Made in America’ mean something again.” Verhoeven’s sharp satire of Reagan era economics, militarization of police and corporate privatization of public services/our bodies that doubled as an ultraviolent sleazy pulp commentary on American entertainment is in the hands of Kershner and Miller a shinier, goofier comic book version of it that still kinda works but does undercut much of its dirty, gruesome potency about state and corporate killing machines, and instead becomes the kind of entertainment Verhoeven was satirizing. But luckily for this film, as politically incoherent and downright absurd as it is, I kinda like this sort of gross bullshit when it is as vividly and cartoonishly realized as it is here, and…

Somehow I had never seen this before, and decided that I should rectify the blindspot. Obviously this movie has a pretty bad reputation, but nevertheless, I feel that it’s one of those movies that someone like me should have seen. This is to the first RoboCop what those cheap ‘60s and ‘70s Looney Tunes comic books were to their cartoon source material, in that it looks like and has many/most of the same elements as the thing you originally liked, but is carelessly thrown together and untouched by genius. Like the original, this has brutal violence (a lot of it, probably even more than what Verhoeven gave us, which goes to show that mass is not always the same as weight),…

Robocop (Peter Weller) returns to fight crime on the streets of Detroit, whilst getting caught up in a plot by OCP to bankrupt and take over the city, in this sci-fi action sequel co-starring Nancy Allen, Dan O’Herlihy, Belinda Bauer and Tom Noonan. Many of the production team involved in the first movie, including director Paul Verhoeven, had gone on to Total Recall, meaning that this film lacks a lot of its predecessor’s visual flair and inventiveness, feeling much more conventional and straightforward. It was given a bigger budget, which improves the special effects and makes the story feel bigger in scope, although it misses some of the original’s low budget charm. There are still some interesting ideas, like the inclusion…

Many of the same elements remain, only slightly tweaked like volume faderz in favor of more neon cartoonish sensibilities—which I love and have no problem with. Sure, I miss that Verhoeven flair… it’s unobtainable to anyone else but him, but Robocop 2 is one of those hyper violent over the top sequels I go nuts for (like Predator 2)… amped up fun equal parts smart/dumb and I can’t state enough how much I love fake movie drugs—NUKE is right up there as one if the best.

This film does have its moments, but they are few and far between. The huge amount of satire from the first film is almost gone, and the final fight between RoboCop and RoboCop 2 was pretty fun.

A bit more camp than the original yet somewhat more violent throughout, Peter Weller with another top tier performance, felt like they could have done more with Murphy’s family across the entire film rather than writing them out so early on, it’s a good film but it does at times feel like there’s too many things going on all at once even though by the end they all become linked, though I do think they should have delved even more…

Robocop 2 is quite simply just another Robocop film as it’s literally just Robocop on another case. There’s nothing new explored, instead retreading old grounds regarding Murphy’s humanity. The actual Robocop 2 does look pretty good though.

The development of ‘Robocop 2’ was plauged from start to finish with different and conflicting ideas for the movie, the 1988 Writers Guild strike, studio pressure, rushed scheduling and on set friction. What I am happy to see is a good number of actors reprising roles for the sequel such as ‘Peter Weller’, ‘Nancy Allen’, ‘Dan O’Herlihy’, ‘Felton Perry, ‘Robert DoQui’, ‘Angie Bolling’, and ‘Wanda De Jesus’ which gives the movie a good sense of continuity and feeling that we’re…

I *think* I’ve watched this at least once before, but not for a very long time. It starts surprisingly well, aping the ridiculous ads from the first movie. (“MagnaVolt – the “final word in auto security” that provides “Lethal Response” by electrocuting thieves,, and it “won’t even run down your battery.”) And it tries to continue the themes from the first movie but quickly trips itself up by attempting to follow/weave/resolve too many storylines. Still pretty good, though. I did not know the story was by Frank Miller (yeah THAT Frank Miller of superhero comics fame)!

In which RoboCop is a scab. It’s a strange beast, this sequel. You can maybe tell that there had been an animated series for kids between the first and second film because this feels like it’s tailored to a more younger market, as evinced by the inclusion of the irritating juvenile villain Hob, and yet the violence is ramped up to further disturbing levels in places. The makers obviously understood that the satire of the first film is a key…

I really felt like a kid watching this f’d up dystopian movie. Crazy to think I was watching this when I was five or six years old! I still love: the scene with the prototype robots, the intelligent and sexy doctors, psychiatrist, and Kane’s gf, the media inserts, the stop motion animations are really well done once again, Robo has sweet suit upgrade. Whats mid: somewhat a repeat of the first beats except we get robocop action right away, everyone…

7.5/10 I like how this movie reflects on what Robocop as a franchise had become after the first film and how they play into him being sanitized and kid friendly. Not quite on the level of the first film but not bad at all!

It’s not that great but the fact that they named the second robocop “robocop 2” does alotta heavy lifting for me here. This also commits the cardinal sin of being a shitty movie that references a far better movie with the line: “Frank. Blue Velvet.”

Good movie tbh, a bit worse than one but not as bad as other sequels. That kid really pissed me off. Far-fetched, even for a movie about a cyborg-cop, robo cain was crazy.

RoboCop 2 is a divisive film that features the return of RoboCop and his task on taking down a drug lord and face the corruption of the city. I do like the return of Peter Weller and Nancy Allen as RoboCop and Officer Anne Lewis, the action sequences, the set designs and the music. But the story isn’t good, the direction is way far off from Paul Verhoeven’s take on RoboCop, the villian is very forgettable and the movie itself is average. Overall, RoboCop 2 is mix of great and sorrow.

Goofified Verhoeven’s capitalism critique which wasn’t bad, but I don’t think it had anything new to say except for “drugs are bad”.

RoboCop 2 is one of those sequels where you can see the potential, but unfortunately, it never comes close to matching the original. The first RoboCop had a great balance of action, dark comedy, satire, and surprisingly thoughtful commentary about corporations and society. RoboCop 2 tries to do many of the same things, but it feels much messier and less focused. The biggest problem for me is the story. The movie brings RoboCop back to fight a new drug epidemic…

Nuke is a great drug name. What if you satirized the War on Drugs instead? Fun with the Blank Check commentary. Noonan villain, hell yeah brother. Tippett decimating per usual. Did think RoboCop needed a bigger gun at one point. And then he got one! That’s storytelling.

This movie is wildly underrated. Sure, there are 4 films worth of ideas, but it’s no studio sellout. It maintains the cynical edge, but maybe loses that bit of heart that pushes the original to flawless status.

The only thing I think they got right was his wife finally calling him out for being a stalker. Then what does Murphy do when shes willing to accept him?

Verhoeven’s original Robocop is so good and so perfectly executed for what it is – an action sci-fi thriller, yes; but also a satire of an action sci-fi thriller; a forceful push against the boundaries of what a director could get away with in a Hollywood movie at the time in terms of violence and excess; and not least a piece of political cinematic satire, taking shots at Reaganite policies on crime, drugs and corporate overreach. How to follow that…

I was gonna make a joke about how if you told me this was directed by Charles Band I wouldn’t doubt you for a second but then I found out who actually directed this and my jaw dropped (same with thr writer) like, how.

Was looking forward to see where things with Murphy’s family went but that entire plot line was dead within the first 15 minutes and never revisited. A massive, massive step down from the first film, but at least the last act was fun. This was a pretty unnecessary sequel that doesn’t move the story forward in any interesting ways and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone unless they really want to see another Robocop story. Will be skipping the third entry, but probably revisiting the reboot. 5/10 (Decent)

Thank you for not smoking. I think this is an example of a film that ultimately suffers from a overbearing and interfering studio input. Maybe if Orion backed down then RoboCop 2 would be remembered more fondly. Then again, perhaps not. I like RoboCop 2, though. A loss of the black humour and biting satire to the OG, and more of a serious action film with Murphy having to fight the leader of a drug cult who has his brain inserted into a RoboCop v2.0. The stop motion stuff is still great, but I just didn’t care much for the storyline this time round, or the characters. RoboCop’s suit colour was meh, too distracting. - Synopsis
- After a successful deployment of the RoboCop Law Enforcement unit, OCP sees its goal of urban pacification come closer and closer, but as this develops, a new narcotic known as "Nuke" invades the streets led by God-delirious leader Cane. As this menace grows, it may prove to be too much for Murphy to handle. OCP tries to replicate the success of the first unit, but ends up with failed prototypes with suicidal issues... until Dr. Faxx, a scientist straying away from OCP's path, uses Cane as the new subject for the RoboCop 2 project, a living God.
