My favorite thing about this film and, trust me, I have a lot of favorite things about it, is that Woo actually got Travolta to say the fine line, “Well, think about me. This nose. This hair. This ridiculous chin.”

A once-in-a-lifetime great idea of combining two of the strangest American movie stars at the peak of their interest in exaggerated experimentation, giving them a legitimately deranged sci-fi melodrama spec script involving literally wearing each other like a skinsuit (roleplaying and performance-swapping in a dance-like yin-yang explosion of bizarre cadences/mannerisms… Arguably, this is the most acting that’s ever been done in a movie), and giving them both to one of the most supernaturally gifted action filmmakers of all time who had already spent a decade honing this exact type of operatic cop/criminal mirror-image, opposites-colliding romance-action concept, and is able to just openly flex at how perversely literal the idea has been made here. Baking considerations about identity crisis & creation and…

I am giving the film a 2 for entertainment, but it does not stand up, and I feel that John Woo is wildly overrated.

Getting the audience to go along with the central conceit of this movie is its greatest achievement. Once you buy into the face swapping, all bets are off. As much 90s operatic excess as you can handle. It’s only fitting that it’s too long. How could it not be? John Woo was the only man for the job. He understands the eternal battle between good and evil as well as anybody. And Dad?…I’m sorry I shot you.

Woo’s style of filmmaking is repellant to me. Not a fan of this. Very quickly I realized I was watching something I wasn’t going to like and was just antsy the whole time waiting for the credits to roll. Which was almost 130 minutes of restless leg syndrome and squirming in my chair. Not a fan of either Cage or Travolta in this but Travolta…oof. Not good.

I hate people touching my face The performances of the two protagonists were great. Other than that the movie really wasn’t great tho. I’m not really into action movies and the only action scene I enjoyed was in the hideout of castors friend. There were some really bad scenes with bad acting of side characters and the movie felt very Hollywood sloppy and corny. There were a lot of fun scenes and sequences that made especially the first half really fun.

The amount of exaggerated face caressing in this movie was hilarious but also made me very uncomfortable… I was laughing at how stupidly serious this movie was but honestly it was pretty entertaining and the action was decent. The first half was kinda boring not gonna lie but it got way better.

They dont make movies like these anymore. I don’t understand why this movie has low rating compared to other john woo films this is a banger one of the most incredible concepts put on screen . The performances are incredible which take the movie to a another level by john Travolta ad Nic Cage . Sound effects is incredible too Face/Off is amazing because it mixes an outrageously cornball plot with some of the best acting in an action movie.…

Best action movie of all time. Best movie of all time, period? It opens with the most epic fight scene, as grand and intense as if it were the final scene, the pinnacle. But that’s just the beginning. And then it just gets bigger and better, it’s insane. It’s one of those rare films (rare for me at least, lol) where you cannot take your eyes off the screen even for a second. It’s so exciting and nerve-wrecking, and heartwrenching…

An absolute bonkor of a movies with legit entertainined acting and high stylized direction that had me laugh out loud from the beginning. Nic Cage and Travolta just goes bananas at each other every scenes, the rewatch is only amplify the fact that this movie will be a timeless, not a masterpiece but one of a kind of films with silly high-concept premise that take itself so seriously but work well with a wild and ridiculous execution.

this movie is absolutely fucking insane and I mean that as the highest compliment possible. the premise is ridiculous, the acting is completely unhinged, and somehow every single thing about it works. nicolas cage and john travolta really said “let’s make the most insane movie imaginable” and fucking committed to it. 5 stars. no notes.

Still a better premise than One Night Only. Lowkey would make a great Hush (from Batman) storyline if it was a little less silly and more of a thriller. Matt Reeves get on it. The hand on the face thing is too much I can’t handle it. The shootout during Somewhere Over the Rainbow actually had so much aura and is one of the cooler shootout sequences I’ve seen.

What a ridiculous movie, and I loved it. Very enjoyable. The final act action scenes were outstanding. John Travolta can’t do Nic Cage as well as Nic Cage could do Travolta; this sentence only makes sense in this movie’s context. I was dreading the SA scene, but I think they went with the right route of not filming it and acknowledging it within the movie. It’s not much, but it’s more than what other campy action movies do.

“Will someone please tell me what planet I’m on?” In all seriousness, there is something revealing about the CIA and FBI creating monsters both in and out of office. Although the movie tries to convince you that this is an eternal battle between good and evil, I’m leaning more into the complex of senseless pursuit of power. Nic Cage, when pretending to be the agent, really exposes just what the suits think and feel in the service. That is, they…

Elevating action and emotional stakes for the whole genre, whole being batshit insane. It’s a supremely silly film but wholly original, and the ground it covers can’t really be matched by any other film. The face swapping idea is so incredibly dumb, and yet so rich with metaphor. Cage is doing insane work here but so is Travolta in embodying cage. There are things I dislike but when it comes down to it, any issues I have are dwarfed by…

This sucked. I love camp but this is somehow not enjoyable at all. Really interesting premise but flops on the delivery. It’s nearly 2.5 hours and maybe 15min of actual fun footage and storytelling, specifically the final boat scene. How do you have a movie with nick cage and still make it boring. They did say “face off” like 3 times tho so that’s fun

Man, I remember my dad buying this on HD dvd and having a box of old films with endless titles. I don’t think I’ve seen this joint since then and wow, I was genuinely blown away by it all over again. The first meeting between Castor/Travolta and Sean/Cage in the prison (which Amnesty International knows nothing) and the mirror scene are beautiful. The final boat chase is pure adrenaline-fueled Jon Woo’s madness. I love this movie. P.s. the fact that a FBI agent, during the fight in the terrorists’ hideout, uses a literal flamethrower, is crazy.

Stylized bedlam and ridiculous writing. There’s nonsense movies that favor over-the-top action, and then there’s this. I have never enjoyed John Woo because his idea of drama and slick styling is just melodrama. The parallels between the leads are knocked over your head. The audience is given no credit whatsoever. In one scene in a chappel, Casper Troy (Travolta at the time) says “Isn’t this so religious?!” He then spreads his arms to pantomime Jesus on the cross. In true…

This is a movie directed by John Woo In March 2017, three women filed sexual assault allegations against Danny Masterson, prompting an investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department. Masterson, through his agent, denied the allegations. In December 2017, after a fourth victim’s accusations, Netflix fired Masterson from its comedy series The Ranch, saying in a statement, “Yesterday was his last day on the show, and production will resume in early 2018 without him.” Masterson stated that he was “obviously…

Truthfully, I don’t really get how well received this movie is — even from the lens of camp (which was the only way I found myself enjoying it) Given their stardom in the late 90s, I wonder if this is the ultimate product of its time with most of the fanfare rooted in nostalgia That being said, Cage and travolta are so so SO good at freaky fridaying (so good!) that I wouldn’t disagree if someone said everyone had to watch this movie at least once in their lifetime

We live in a world where actors and narratives are awarded for being realistic. I’m certainly one of the those people giving those types of films praise. A classic! The two central roles are so magnificently cast that nothing else matters. The campyness and fun of these performances is immaculate. It’s been a long time since I’d seen it so I barely remembered anything beyond vibes but honestly that was all I needed. If enrolled in Professor Sean Garrity’s Nicolas Cage: Good or Bad, Face/Off would be the main focus of my thesis. Does Nic Cage’s acting feel bad because he’s playing the human embodiment of a wax figure? Is John Travolta more fun to watch because he’s playing an insane Nic Cage? Is this movie good? In the end, it doesn’t matter. As always, I never regret watching Nicolas Cage do weird shit. Pre-9/11 action flicks continue to surprise in this movie-a-day adventure.

Wild stuff. As far-fetched a premise as you will ever see mixed with some of the most exaggerated action and acting in any 90s action movie ever. It’s funny how things come around again. I thought this was pretty good as a teen, then poo-pooed it for many years, now it’s back on the tasty menu

This movie is a masterpiece. I re-watched it expecting a solid B movie, but forgot how layered this movie is. Trojan horse for getting into John Woo films and how can you go wrong with Travolta and Cage doing impressions of each other! Great action set pieces, with every type of vehicle included/blown up. The boat scene towards the end is a highlight. The relationship dynamics between Travolta’s character and his wife had more depth than Odysseus and Penelope in Nolan’s Odyssey.

Ok, the main premise is a good bit. I think the experiment is way funnier if we swapped the characters in the first place and then ran the bit. Cage doing an impression of whatever the fuck Travolta would’ve done with Castor Troy? Battlefield Earth type shit. The most airplane watch of all time.

This is one of the most wild and ridiculous movies I’ve seen. It’s John Travolta and Nic Cage so you know it’s going to be… unique. I just couldn’t get over how every single scene is like the most corny action sequence ever.

One of My Childhood Favorites Didn’t Survive the Rewatch I saw Face/Off in theaters as a kid and absolutely loved it. Unfortunately, the rewatch wasn’t quite as kind to my memories. In 4K, stunt doubles are surprisingly obvious and even some of the wires become visible. The sentimental subplots also feel overly cheesy and unnecessary. What still works brilliantly are Nicolas Cage, John Travolta and the dynamic between their characters. John Woo’s trademarks are everywhere – slow motion, dual-wielded guns…

7.8/10 I can see how when this movie came out it was probaby a blockbuster! Just harder for me to get into some of the older movies but the twist in the movie is crazy and not how I seen it going. It pays off for sure great action movie, while being able to see Travolta and Cage in there prime!
