Apparently there was a bomb on the bus. That makes sense in hindsight, I was wondering why all the drama.

most realistic la plot point is that they keep almost dying because the city can’t finish transit and infrastructure projects on time

extra half star for the fact that keanu and sandra UNKNOWINGLY developed a crush on each other during filming, making the chemistry you see onscreen 100% real i don’t make the rules.

Watching this is just 2 straight hours of me being the guy on the bus who yells “this guy is nuts!!!!!” every time there’s an insane practical stunt. A completely logistically absurd premise—about Keanu’s selfless adrenaline junkie LAPD cop going head-to-head with Dennis Hopper’s maniacally “crazy not stupid” terrorist who is extremely horny for bombs/explosions and money (“don’t fuck with daddy!”) and has turned LAs freeways and public transit into a stage for his incredibly elaborate and sadistic game of public spectacle revenge—that has been cinematically realized about as convincingly and economically as possible by legendary cinematographer Jan de Bont (Die Hard, Basic Instinct, etc). His precise technical skill for clockwork craftsmanship and propulsive pace that he developed while working…

Some of the cleanest anamorphic 35mm action you’re likely to find, directed by maybe the greatest action photographer ever, and a textbook example of how pure craft and charisma can paper over the holes in even the most implausible script.

I had no real expectations going into this, and certainly didn’t expect a 5 star action movie masterpiece. No bullshit. Barely any backstory. Just bombs and a bus. “THAT’S OUR SCUMBAG!”

absolute banger of an action film. genuinely picked Speed to be a decent mind numbing action film while i ate my wawa hoagie and was thrown for a fucking whirlwind. there’s so so so So much to love about Speed but #1 thing has gotta be Bob fucking up that elevator button.

This is why no one uses public transportation in LA. Jokes aside, think this was Sandy B’s finest work and movie had a lot of scenes where I was screaming

for a movie called speed it sure took a long time to see my girl sandy bullock!!

Wait, hold on. Why did Jack say he’s taller? That doesn’t make any sense. Especially in that specific situation. If anything he should’ve said “I’m shorter.” Is that too emasculating? Okay fine. Then maybe say, “I’m lower.” I don’t know, but that of all things really through me for a loop

Very public transit positive movie!

Was it pointless to crash that bus into a cargo plane? Yes! Did the explosion look cool in the scene? Fuck yeah!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️

A film with endless ingenuity and zero pee breaks. I mean that in the best possible way. Perhaps my favorite Keanu.

Shocked by this only having a 3.7 on Letterboxd. Some of yall need to open your hearts to things just being fucking awesome and nothing more. Peak Keanu and Bullock (even tho they both have like 5 peaks). And Jan de Bont having one of the sickest careers anyone could have, flops and all.

seems like the perfect movie for keanu reeves

Really enjoyed it until they got off the bus and then it just went downhill
-
E
Can’t hate on a Keanu Reeves action movie , villain was bit overrated tho
-
M
Fun silly 90s action directed by one of the finest action cinematographers from that era Jan De Bont, with great Dennis Hopper and Sandra Bullock performances. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same about Keanu – he just kinda yells every line.

Some of the funniest line readings of any action movie I’ve ever seen and I mean that in the best possible way. When their car shows up Dukes of Hazzard style off a hard cut from a hostage situation, I laughed out loud. By far one of the most fun summer action movies to rewatch

“Pop quiz, hotshot. There’s a bomb on a bus. Once the bus goes 50 miles an hour, the bomb is armed. If it drops below 50, it blows up. What do you do? What do you do?” An action movie that feels like the last of its time with so many incredible stunts. It’s why it continues to stand the test of time as one of the best action movies put to screen. It’s also incredibly well paced, has great chemistry between its leads in Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock and a memorable villain performance from Dennis Hooper. 97/100

One of those action movies that’s laughably ridiculous but also strangely cool and undeniably entertaining

4K Blu Ray One of the best looking and sounding movies ever made. Jan De Bont is one crazy s.o.b. When I saw “Carlos Carrasco” in the credits, I thought I was about to see the Cleveland Indians pitcher in his youth but no that would’ve been silly.

Poor people are crazy. I’m eccentric! This movie is such a fucking banger. I could turn this movie on 3/4 of the way through and it would still be a fun watch. Dennis Hopper is a menace and Sandra Bullock is my 90’s movie crush

yeah i think i’d also make out with keanu reeves after escaping death and terrorism multiple times

All timer action film. This clearly takes place in an offshoot timeline in which Wyld Stallyns never took off and Ted became a police officer like his dad, and after the loss of his dad’s ferrari Cameron from Ferris Buelller’s day off was forced to take the bus.

If I watched this movie like I watch most movies, with the lights off, no distractions, and maximum focus…I would have been wildly disappointed. Thankfully I watched it while playing monopoly with three friends. Might be the perfect movie for that exact scenario. I don’t really need to hear the dialogue, I don’t really care about character motivations, I just wanna look up every now and then and see if the bus has exploded or not. Fun, dumb, and very 90s.

highkey copaganda like ohhhhh the only guy smart enough to build all these crazy bombs is an ex cop… sure buddy. and the lapd is definitely smart enough to catch this guy. yeah the concept is so silly but somehow it keeps you invested and fully buying into it 90% of the time. the last like ten minutes were a liiiiittle over the top though, like they really decapitated the bad guy like that hahaha, and what even was that…

In my senior year of high school my best friend and I were the emcees for our school’s homecoming pep rally where the court was presented and the king and queen were crowned. We’d been corralling popular kids for three weeks and when we finally received their interview answers back one guy had answered every single one of the 12+ questions with something that related to Speed (1994). This goes out to that guy. In other news, Sandra Bullock was spectacular in this.

The plot has more holes than a spaghetti strainer. But, the narrative arc is compelling and I was into it. The set pieces are well-executed (albeit stretching credulity), and look pretty good considering when this was made. The ending is also pretty satisfying. The final sequence had the bones of something more cynical and, for a second, I thought they were heading in that direction. That would’ve definitely been more my speed, but where they landed felt tonally consistent and,…

Imagine if at the end of the bad dream that is the short third act of this movie, Jack and Annie get out of the wreckage of train #13 and just walk into the screening of 2001: A Space Odyssey at the Chinese

Yeah the writing could’ve been better, but MAN the direction had my heart racing, the acting was so good (especially from Dennis Hopper), and I’m amazed at how they did a lot of these VFX without CGI.

Good chance this is my favorite action movie. Sandra bullock is so hot and I love her so much.

This movie is just a vehicle #punintended for saying “Keanu has never looked better” every five minutes until you or the people on the bus die

That was sick as hell. I always enjoy movies with small setting so an action movie with Keanu Reeves on a bus is perfect. Kinda wish they skipped the final sequence. A lot of fun though

this was the most ridiculously amazing movie I have ever watched it is a beautiful Saturday morning movie I was watching with my mom and grandma and literally all of us kept gasping at the fucking special effects and craziness that kept going like this was actually insanely good I’m not gonna lie I loved how everything kept getting crazier but they kind of lost me with the train ending but other than that wow I will add that I…

Hopper used perfectly, Bullock doing yeoman’s work to make even half of this believable. Joe Morton and Jeff Daniels more vital than I remembered, the elevator opening is maybe better than all the bus stuff. Keanu has such unique line readings, would be hard pressed to call it a good performance but it would be an otherwise forgettable role without his danish by way of Canada pronunciation of words, and always the ones you never suspect. This movie ends when the bus explodes, everything beyond that is redundant. Like the last two thirds of Dostoevsky’s The Idiot.
