Why did they make Robertcop look like a thumb? It’s better than Robocop 3, I’ll give it that. But this feels so stuck in between trying to be its own thing, yet being a remake at the same time. The overt satire is gone, in lieu of a commentary on our ever growing surveillance state and our militaristic imperialism. Yet it’s all lost in the sauce of Murphy’s wife being around for some reason. Whatever it tries to say doesn’t land. And there’s way too many characters. It would all be forgiven, if they just didn’t make Robocop look like an absolute-fucking-dweeb. Minimalism and sleekness is a cancer. The suit stinks, I hate the retractable visor and that we can…

“It’s the illusion of free will.” Honestly better than it should be. Not totally empty-headed but unfortunately also not a particularly great action movie and it completely flatlines in the finale. The heavyweights in the cast really help carry it though, Sam Jackson is a hoot.

RoboCop: AKA the day I learned to let go. I was not planning on watching this. I am deeply, nostalgically in love with Verhoeven’s film. The moment I heard that this remake was going to happen I decided that I would not see this, no matter what. So what happened? Well, two words, Friedberg and Selzer. Tuesday evening is my regular Sneak Preview evening at my local theater. We never know what we’re going to get, but it’s always a new film. So when the film started and we saw the title splashed across the screen like a slap in the face, Best Night Ever the latest ‘comedy’ by those to awful men, I looked at my buddy and we…

Admittedly, I’m not a die hard fan of the original. I really liked it (4/5), but by no means am I in love with it. So I was pretty open minded toward this remake. I really wish I hadn’t been open minded because this totally sucked. I was seriously bored out of my mind! With 25 minutes left, I was saying to myself: ok there’s going to be some awesome action sequences coming up. But it literally never happened. Honestly nothing happens during the entire movie. Action was damn near non-existent. The acting was laughably bad. When I say this was boring, I’m not kidding. Staying awake was such a struggle. I somehow managed not to fall asleep or even dose off. I’m still pretty amazed that I didn’t do so. Final Verdict: This movie is a cesspool of dumpster sludge.

This movie is making me rethink everything I believe about remakes. I appreciate that this is not just the original film redone in 2014. Although it has plenty of connections to its source, it takes some chances and definitely does things differently. If you’ve seen Paul Verhoeven’s ROBOCOP, you haven’t automatically seen Jose Padilha’s ROBOCOP. I like that. AND YET! Almost everything about this is disappointing. I enjoyed some of the effects, particularly in disassembling and reassembling Joel Kinnaman as everyone’s favorite robot-cop; there are a few shots that are both totally disturbing and slightly hilarious. The movie also has some ideas it wants to explore about the nature of free will and human consciousness. It’s not just mindless action;…

“Make it more tactical, make him look … Let’s go with black.” In 2028, robotic drones developed by OmniCorp have revolutionized warfare, but their use is prohibited on US soil. In the hopes of changing public opinion, OmniCorp CEO Raymond Sellars (Michael Keaton) decides to circumvent the law by putting a man in a machine. When Detroit police Detective Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) is fatally wounded, OmniCorp uses him for a prototype cyborg law enforcement officer … RoboCop is a science fiction action film directed by José Padilha. It’s the 4th installment in the RoboCop film series, and a remake of the original 1987 film (my review). Padilha’s film is a remake of Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 classic, a milestone in…

If you watch this film expecting it to be some retelling of the original you’ll be disappointed. This remake is a completely different flavour to the original. No hyper violence and it’s a 12a. If that concerns you then I have news for you: Congratulations. You are now your parents. Shall I turn the music down too? RoboCop is the definition of why you remake a film. Not to do exactly the same thing but to spin the story to a modern day audience. Much like a cover version of an old song – why would you want it to be exactly the same? Anyway, I digress – I really enjoyed RoboCop. Sure the politics were painted in big brush…

Me, imagining the people who wrote this movie: “Let’s take a brilliant, biting satire, drain it of everything that makes it interesting, tone down the violence to sub-PG-13 levels, and stuff it with every blockbuster cliche we can find.”

more openly politically critical than a cutting satire, the faults here are narrative rather that subtextual. Verhoeven’s film, stripped of its ideas, would still be a kick-ass action film about a murdered police officer who gets turned into a robot and avenges his own death. this isn’t particularly funny or all that exciting. but it’s not stupid, either.

The scene where Gary Oldman’s character disassembles Alex Murphy until he’s just a floating head and lungs is something out of a Cronenberg movie. Gives me nightmares. Bad movie though, which is a shame because I think there’s a reality where this could have worked

Weak, unnecessary remake. But I did enjoy the Jackson news guy. Also, predicted some actual geopolitics?? Still, needed more new content, but simply did not provide.

Its been a while since i watch this, but i will always sees RoboCop’s movies a horror movie, if i was Alex id rather kill myself on the spot. Also i really really love the design for it, it made me realize even though i really like the “ormour” or his new “body”, i can still sees the person underneath though i cant say thats the same person as before the incident.

Just so bad. Had no excuse to come out after the marvel movies were doing exactly what this is trying to do but 1000 times better. If they had been able to stick with the grey suit I wouldve been able to keep my eyes on the screen. The black suit is sooo just nothing

This movie will always be compared to the original but it’s not a remake so much as an homage. To that end they modernized the story a bit which works and the effects and filming are strong too but they also made it a fairly bland action film and took some of the heart of the original. Watching this 12 years after seeing it in the theater was like seeing it for the first time, whereas I still remember the original almost scene for scene.

J
Bleeping a patented Samuel L. Jackson “motherfucker” should activate a special kill protocol in RoboCop to 86 the exec that decided that The pieces are there for something better, namely with the plot changes, the new time period and themes that go along with it, but it was really uninterested in doing things with even an ounce of irreverenty the original did which pulls the final product down into a MCU-ified schlocky mess. Incredibly poorly shot action, really boring score…

So lame. They removed all the heart, humor, satire, and tension of the original, and wasted Michael Keaton, Samuel Jackson, and Gary Oldman. Plus brilliant lines like, “you guys are so slow, like a bunch of girls.” Nothing like casual misogyny to prove your utter lack of talent and creativity.

Enjoyed this, but maybe because I assumed it was going to be terrible, but it was fun enough

Robocop is upgraded to a Tesla, the theme song gets a dubstep remix, the movie is classed up from broad satirical pulp to lower-middlebrow pulp. Entirely on its own narrow merits, not bad, just superfluous. The day our civilization moves past action scenes where a single Übermensch dispatches hundreds of bad guys effortlessly in swirling tracking shots, always with some digitally-fudged ‘shakicam’ to obscure how impossibly slick they are, while an ironic needle-drop plays on the soundtrack, cannot come soon enough, in my humble opinion.

Sometimes I give a bit of grace and let a 127 minute movie pass on the two hour rule, but here I am imposing the two hour rule on this 118 minute hostile viewing exercise aka film. The only star it earns back is for Jennifer Ehle. How can a movie with Gary Oldman and Michael Keaton in it be this bad?! The action is bad, the music is bad, the ideas are bad, the execution is bad. At least I will soon completely forget all of it. Except Jennifer Ehle.

Much more overtly critical of the American industrial complex than Verhoeven’s original, which was quite suprising. A movie that had a lot to say, but just did it in such a boring way! Strip away the political satire, and the 1987 version is still an adrenaline filled and hilarious action movie. The thermal vision shootout was the only scene in this with any creative flair. Murphy patrolling the streets in this one was so pedestrian. Probably would have bumped it up a star if it wasn’t called Robocop, but you can’t remake an American classic without inviting harsh comparisons.

Such a watered down version of the original. Story, dialogue, and of course the PG-13 rating.
-
A
I haven’t seen the original in a long time, but it seems like they stayed really far from the source material. It was mostly technology slop and we never got to learn to care for Alex since he was turned into RoboCop so early in the movie. Definitely a half decent film, stacked cast, and Sam L curing and yelling to put a cherry on top
-
J
Honestly, this movie had serious potential, and with a few changes this could have been an awesome movie. But in this world, it just feels kinda bland. Even though the fight scenes were cool, and the graphics were pretty great for a 2014 movie, you can still very clearly see the actors struggling to make the best out of a really bad situation. I do t think I’m going to be coming back to this movie any time soon.

Not as bad as expected. Very decent cast and I appreciate the focus on the emotional and ethical part of a RoboCop. Plot was lacking though. Overall felt like a decent but unnecessary reboot.

Like Men In Black…. This really is a franchise with one great movie and a series of sequels/reboots that just never fully work. A fun supporting cast, but RobertCop isn’t compelling here. Also why the hair Sam???

This is just the most generic thing ever. If not for Gary Oldman and Micheal Keaton it would’ve been lower. I watched part of this movie when it came out when I was a child and it scared me. The Robocop series is a blind spot for me. I can see what is appealing about the idea but I need to see the original movies.

RoboCop (2014) is a solid, entertaining sci-fi action remake that has plenty of good ideas, even if it never reaches the level of Paul Verhoeven’s original. It’s a more modern and polished take on the story, but sometimes that polish comes at the expense of the original’s sharp satire and personality. One of the movie’s biggest strengths is its cast. Joel Kinnaman does a good job as Alex Murphy, giving the character enough humanity to make his transformation into RoboCop…

Solid movie. Granted, I haven’t seen the original so I don’t have bias towards it yet. I loved whenever Samuel L. Jackson would just randomly show up. Probably my favorite part of the movie. He shows Americas one sided media. This movie also shows that we should trust AI/technology somewhat, but not give it full control. It’s a good moral. Overall, solid movie. Probably won’t ever rewatch.

I am really torn about RoboCop (2014)… On one hand, it’s an alright sci-fi movie that has some decent moments but at the same time, I think it really does miss the mark on being a competent remake of my beloved 80’s original. Now there are some things that I think we’re actually a pretty good choice but if there are two things that kill this movie for me, it’s going from the original be R-rated and having really good…

Way different then the OG even in stature. This one plays more on the political statement of prepertrated free will. It also focuses heavily on medical/scientific breakthroughs. I was down for all of that until once again another Robocop film past the first attempt failed to keep me engaged. Once he became active I lost interest. I was much more connected to the family dynamic in this one and how human he still was!

Rewatching RoboCop (2014) for the first time in years, I’m surprised by how much I still enjoy it. It’s definitely a different take on RoboCop compared to the original, with less violence and satire, but I think it works well as a modern sci-fi action movie. I really like how much time the movie spends on the emotional side of his transformation. His struggle to hold onto his humanity is probably one of the strongest parts of the film. Gary…

This would actually have been a decent movie if it was not called robocop. I like the approach of how to deal with this from a humanitarian side. But sadly the purpose of this movie was to be a remake and as a remake this is not good. Still 2 1/2 stars cause as I said I really dig the approach
-
U

Y’all gonna play good cop, bad cop? Michael K Williams: Nah, Daniels. Bad cop, RoboCop. That’s basically the only joke in this soulless, creatively bankrupt movie. Another “gritty and joyless” update on a classic that sucks ass.

“Holy Christ there’s nothing left 😢” I made the dumbest mistake and randomly put this on after seeing it on my recommended, knowing nearly nothing about Robocop besides that quote and the fact that 2 dicks are shot at in the movies. R
It’s almost impressive how incredibly boring they made a movie about a robot cop.
-
M
Gah this is so frustrating Asks some very interesting questions about morality and guilt, but takes the anti-capitalist attitude the original is drenched in and instead focuses on corruption within the police department. Also an interesting premise but not done with any real uniqueness or intention beyond something to stuff the plot The scene where what is under the robocop scene is unforgettable, as it keeps tearing away parts of his body to reveal just how little of himself he has left. But nothing else in this even comes close to that peak
-
D
Great CGI and the robot designs were also really good. The plot seemed a bit rushed with some major plot holes (like how tf was Alex able to override his settings, the fucking power of love?!). The characters were all a bit bleak and the was minimal character development. Anyway, good action movie worth watching.

I kicked this one a long way down the line, I have been “meaning to watch it” for like a month, but it looked so boring and uninteresting that I really was not looking forward to it. i found this pretty fun actually, the sound design and the futuristic tech is really cool. people hate it cause they’re comparing it to the og, which isnt the point cause this is a remake. i admit that i havent seen the old one, and i will be watching it after this, but without the comparison this one was very good. i also loved the addition of “If I Only Had a Heart” from the wizard of Oz, really adds to the question whether a machine that thinks its a man really has a heart

I understand the criticism for this film I do enjoy it to an extent. I think the action and the overall feel of the Robocop suit is pretty cool (hate the boring black version though).

It’s true that we can develop nostalgia for anything because I’m kind of fond of the late 2000s early 2010s corporate bullshit action movies like this or Battleship or Terminator: Salvation. They have the aesthetics of a Call Of Duty knockoff and are mildly boring but they came out from when I was 10-16 so I have some affinity for them.

This isn’t Robocop, but parts of this are interesting and at times well acted and interestingly staged. Kinneman ends up in a good place eventually. Self-serious is just way less philosophically interesting, and most importantly, way less fun than satire.

Basically just a waste of a movie. You have this mammoth budget, and a willingness to spend it on fantastic effects… and thats kinda it. I yelled “FUCK YOU” at my TV when “I Fought the Law” started playing. This is so bad and so cynical that it feels like a commercial from the original. OCP would absolutely hire the cream of the Hollywood acting crop to star in a sanded-down, boring, baby-shit version of Alex Murphy’s story as a piece of pro-Robocop propaganda. I feel like Michael Bluth when he opens the Dead Dove: Do Not Eat! bag. “I don’t know what I expected.”

Honestly like the mach 1 suit he’s in! I think the slick black look of the second half is kind of horrendous and the movie has 0 good action sequences.

This was during a time when studios saw Batman Begins and The Dark Knight take Batman and put him in a very dark setting, saw it be successful, then told themselves, “Let’s take our existing IPs, and make them all dark!” It does not work for Robocop. The black suit alone, what the hell? How hard you tryna make Robocop look like Nolan’s Batman? The movie itself was just, meh. There were a couple action scenes that were pretty cool,…

“No, it’s nothing personal. Although, I don’t like you as a person.” I have a lot of conflicting thoughts on this film. On the one hand there are some good things in here such as more focus on the relationship between Alex & his family but then there’s also some really shiet things such as the weak & underdeveloped characters & the new black suit for Robo. Ultimately making a film that is just… ehhh in my opinion. Even with the star power…

There were some great ideas for this film like making it more modern to today’s society and the cinematography is amazing with a great cast. However, I think making it a 12A wasn’t a great step as I was hoping it would have the same level of violence as the original so I was a little underwhelmed with this film but other than that, I still recommend it but I do prefer the original without a doubt.

While it’s far better than it could have been, José Padilha’s RoboCop remake fails to offer a significant improvement over the original.
- Synopsis
- In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years, but have been forbidden for law enforcement in America. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it. When Alex Murphy – a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit – is critically injured, OmniCorp sees their chance to build a part-man, part-robot police officer. OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine.
