I am currently staying in an Airbnb. They have a DVD player, a teeny tiny TV and a selection of maybe 15 DVDs. Of the discs available this film got my attention. Something to do with the Dinosaur on the cover appealed to me. On further reading I discovered that it’s the 3rd in a series of creature features. The OG was released the same year as Jurassic Park…so…I have only high hopes for this one! Maybe I’ll catch those other films another time. I don’t think I lost much in terms of prior knowledge. The plot is as you’d expect, a little ropey. As are the effects. It’s sort of the Aliens rip-off concept that’s kinda been done to death. But it’s not without a little charm. I’ve seen worse. Certainly worth 90s minutes of a late evening in rainy Northumberland.

The third entry in the Carnosaur series retains the Aliens rip off tone of the second film, though at least this time it isn’t an exact microbudget carbon copy. We focus on a shipment of dinosaurs unwittingly stolen by a bunch of terrorists who thought it was uranium. Don’t you just hate it when that happens? Anyway, we then focus on a bunch of army guys that have to go in to sort out the situation after being given a load of exposition about how the Carnosaurs can regenerate cells. Much of the movie consists of the army guys bantering in cheaply built sets, though at least some of the banter is amusing. The special effects are ridiculous as is…

I can’t believe I actually watched the Carnosaur trilogy in one day and lived to tell the tale. This movie is poorly made, poorly acted, and has the worst effects of the series.

A Jurassic list Oh Corman… As lil sliver of late 90s comedic Corman shlock it has some semblance of entertainment value but all the charm of the previous entry is almost entirely lost with this one. Whereas Carno 2 was more than happy to indulge us in some low budget dino goodness this almost feels embarrassed that their reusing all the propers they’ve been using since ‘93 and as such anytime they appear on screen the camera op begins to have a seizure, thrashing the camera around so you can’t see jack shit. I’d be more than forgiving of this if the rest of the film had any ounce of charm but I guess the last of that was used…

Everybody Walk The Dinosaur! #7 You just had to squeeze one more Carnosaur film out didn’t you Corman? Couldn’t have left well enough alone, we just needed a Carnosaur 3. I hope you’re happy. This sucks ass. It’s a cheaply put together product made purely to try and get just a smidgeon more profit out of this series. It looks cheap, it feels cheap, it’s so lifeless. The Dino effects are about on par with the second, but the cameraman spazzes out anytime they’re on screen making it hard to appreciate them. The gore is weak this time. What we get is nothing new or that impressive. It was just boring. You guys have no idea how hard it was to…

The weakest in the trilogy. It’s basically a rehash of 2, this time recreating the aliens scenes that they missed out in the last entry. There’s a big drop in quality in every department. Ridiculous plot. Gore & practical effects are good. The amazing dinosaur puppets return, they’re so cool. The cast is a bit weak, Rick Dean absolutely steals the show. He’s hilarious as usual. The film is really sexist during some scenes which was just unnecessary, its pretty relentless at times. Score sounds very similar to Predator during the final act which made me laugh. If you’re a fan of the other Carnosaur films then you’ll enjoy this. While its a step down, it continues to be mindless fun from start to finish. Impossible to not be entertained.

Shouldn’t there be six or seven Carnosaurs by now? Terrorists knocking over a military convoy unleash velociraptors at a California seaport. Spec-ops called in to contain through firepower are stifled by a scientist demanding a live specimen. Sound familiar? Not the only shade of Cameron and a bit McTiernan. A baited net, proximity sensors, ambush inside pipe-strewn interiors, and one pissed mother’s nest all recall their ’80s classics. Of course not in the same stratosphere and even shaky for a z-grader. Its dino attacks are edited defensively to mask John Carl Buechler’s hamstrung effects. Always flashes of puppets and man-in-suits at awkward angles crammed into a few seconds. Unsatisfying if bloody and breezy for its eighty minutes. Comedian Michael McDonald, who was working with producer Roger Corman at the time, appears briefly as a cop. Watched via New Concorde’s DVD.

So it starts with a bunch of soldiers on a training exercise and they all get owned but a bunch of paramilitaries (?) who are trying to steal some uranium but walk into a refrigerated trailer full of dinosaurs. And proceed to bitch about the lack of uranium. They also get killed by the dinos. Flash forward we got poor man’s Barbara Crampton who’s a doctor studying the Carnosaurs and giving the new bitchy soldiers advice, and these soldiers like to complain, one of their biggest complaints is women in the military and taking orders from women. Then one of the dinos is “killed” only to have it completely heal while Dr Crampton-lookalike is explaining that they have a healing…

“You ain’t draggin’ me around anymore! Ya know why? You’re dead. You shit! Son of a bitch!” **fires four rounds into cheap rubber suit velociraptor** Ah, Carnosaur III… Three? Three?! I’ve seen three of these blasted buggers, now? Fuck me. There’ll always be someone to bitch about franchise films significantly dropping in quality, and to those who bitch, they really shouldn’t, not until they’ve sat through a Corman-financed series of DTV films where the hamstrung effects get even more hamstrung, the wild B-movie thespians get even more wild, and there’s stunt performers in deteriorating rubber dino suits running away at a toddler’s pace despite the leading lady of science stating these dinos are the fastest fuckers on earth, second only…

Carnosaur 3 is a waste of time. It’s more interested in giving us unfunny and dated comedy than it is in showing us the goofy dinosaur shit that we tuned in for. The few times we actually see the dinosaurs are plagued by blurry cinematography that often makes it hard to even see them. Rick Dean from Carnosaur 2 is back and playing essentially the same obnoxious character again, and he’s the only actor that I remember anything about. There really isn’t a lot to say about this one. It’s crap that fails to justify its existence. I may have fell asleep a couple of times while watching this, and I don’t think I missed anything of value.

This is a huge step down from the first 2, but I still dig it for that sweet 90’s DTV aesthetic even if the aesthetic here is absolutely not the best the 90’s had to offer. This time, army grunts are fighting the dinos on a boat so maybe they’re navy grunts? I dunno. I just know that they sound most of their time screaming at each other and calling each other incompetent (in not as nice words) and then some dinosaur action happens every so often that lasts a few seconds. The dinos here are much darker and gooier than the previous two. It’s like they looked worse so the director just decide to cover them in tar and turn…

Used to rent this one a lot as a kid so for years it was the only Carnosaur movie I had seen. It’s pretty bad but I love how the camera never stops moving, there’s so surprising attempts at style here. Love that they cast Rick Dean from the second movie as a different character just so they could reuse footage from his death scene at the end.

“Angriff aus dem Dunkeln” Selbst bei einer Billig-Reihe musste hier noch an der Sparschrauber gedreht werden. Die Dinos sieht man man nur noch frameweise durch Wackelkameras oder Verzerrlinse, wie sie eine Gruppe Soldaten dezimieren. An sich ein nettes C-Movie, das aber als B-Movie mehr Spaß gemacht hätte.

TERROR WILL NEVER BE EXTINCT… If there’s one level of praise to give Roger Corman’s dinosaur producing …at least he was able to push out his trilogy hardly after The Lost World’s filming started? Only sacrificed by the cinematographical consistency of the third time altered Carnosaur POV effects and making the concept of genetically recreating just Raptors and T-Rexes practically public domain for research, still don’t know HOW a T-Rex can hide out for so long in a warehouse let…

Once more I find myself unwittingly watching a sequel without having seen the earlier entries. In the UK this movie is just known as Primal Species, and I mistakenly thought it was the film adaptation of horror novel Carnosaur, not the third film in the subsequent series. Admittedly I’ve seen worse low budget dinosaur movies; at first it does an okay job hiding the comparatively cut price FX with quick editing, shakey camera and funky POV shots. However, there’s no hiding how bad the cast and the script are, and it quickly gets tedious, even with only 75 minutes of running time.

It’s another meh movie in the franchise it’s not very enjoyable also the people are very stupid

“Jeopardize the safety of the creatures? How the hell am I supposed to capture one of these things without firepower? What if something goes wrong? What if something breaks down? Excuse me, sir, but I really don’t think any one of these soldiers have been trained in hand-to-hand combat with a dinosaur!”

Plot: Terrorists hijack a military convey thinking they are getting their hands on Uranium. Instead they unknowingly stole laboratory specimens; specifically cloned dinosaurs who naturally kill them and escape. A special forces team is then sent in to retrieve them. I told you I’d get around to the Carnosaur movies like I said in my Scorpius Gigantus review. And just like I said in Scorpius the two are nearly identical in terms of plot, although Scorpius is clearly the film…

Undeniably the weakest of the initial three films (though I’m sure the following semi-sequels will shine a positive light on this) and lacking in most of the storytelling and craft qualities that many expect from the average movie. However, it has come to my attention over the years that there is a lobe of my brain that is destined to remain eight years old forever, and this film has murderous dinosaurs running amok. As such, I can only penalize it…

Why can’t the jurassic park sequels be more like this i mean this is funny stuff if this went to theaters everyone would probably be laughing their asses off and enjoying the crazy kills

For some reason this was the only Carnosaur movies I was able to find in widescreen and in 4K. The previous two were in 420p and were not in widescreen. I was really disappointed because this movie had a lot of potential but just fell short and it was also really anticlimactic. Characters were kind of meh and there was a really interesting idea that was sorta brought up that never really went anywhere and that was this sympathetic view…

Total snoozefest with generic deadmeats. Rick Dean returns from part 2 as a new character with less charm. This movie is grossly sexist in a weird way, and they throw the f-slur around in one scene that’s sorely out of place. But at least MadTV’s Michael McDonald returns in a new expanded role to make me laugh! This one is a big skip.

J
Okay this one was fucking abysmal. And why was every line of dialogue overdubbed? I mean, it made it hilarious, but this is undoubtedly the worst of the series by far.
-
D

I’m being told that there’s 2 more sequels in this loosely-held-together trilogy so when I can track those down I might watch them, but this ends the Carnosaur journey and though the first two were somewhat palatable, this one was just trash. Starts out with some ninjas, a quip about the residents of CA, and then a lot of nothing. The effects somehow got worse and the plot is near non-existent other than find dinos, shoot dinos. Farewell to the Carnosaur series. Perhaps we’ll meet again.

Ewwwww. Everything about this movie goes downhill from an already low standard to begin with from the previous two and it just completely prevents you from having fun with the few okay elements that you can cling to. I think the tone is just too all over the place compared to the first two that while it’s all dumb, they still played it straight where here it’s just trying to lean into the comedy too much and the camera work…

“What the hell was that?” “It was like a lizard on steroids!” I thought the terrorist leader looked like a video game character but also somewhat familiar. In 360p he looked a bit like Jeffrey Combs.

After aping ‘Aliens’ for the second installment, it was time to modernize the dinos in 1996. It is very obvious from which Italian-American director who was rising fast in popularity in the 90’s all the “quippy” dialogue was ripped from. There really is a lack of characters you can root for, and I found myself just wishing they would shut their mouths a lot. Then again you see the lizards a good amount and a lot of the gore is…

This third CARNOSAUR is the one I remember most from childhood, and this rewatch was solid. Kinda feels like a blend between PREDATOR and ALIENS with a platoon of specialists who bring tons of guns to fight a buncha loose Carnosaurs, but also need to get a specimen for science purposes. It’s paced well, the cast is fine and they keep the action up. The score was exciting, too (and even rips-off Silversti’s PREDATOR theme). Additionally, the cinematography made me…

I’ve watched all three Carnosaur films in less than 24 hours now, and I can definitively say that both sequels are superior to the original. That’s mostly an indictment of the poor quality of the first movie, but it’s still nice too see that Roger Corman has the capacity to improve. The third installment plays mostly like a rehash of the second. Corman and Winfrey seem to have recognized what made the second movie more enjoyable than the first, because…

Carnosaur 3: Primal Species scrapes the bottom of the dino barrel with a one-star performance that’s barely watchable even for fans of bad movies. The acting is wooden to the point of parody, the plot is so dull it feels like a punishment, and every dinosaur attack is a visual assault thanks to relentless shaky cam, motion blur, and bizarre negative filters that make it nearly impossible to tell what’s going on. The only thing resembling a redeeming quality is the return of the stiff, rubbery dinosaur puppets—cheap-looking, sure, but at least they’re visible. Even die-hard Carnosaur completionists will struggle to justify sitting through this mess.

Carnosaur 3: Primal Species (1996) is the cinematic equivalent of ordering “steak” and being handed a microwaved hot dog. The plot is technically about a team of military commandos who accidentally stumble onto a shipment of genetically engineered dinosaurs that were supposed to be part of some shady arms deal. But the execution is so thin that you could summarize the whole story with: “Soldiers go somewhere. Dinosaurs happen.” On paper, there’s potential for so-bad-it’s-good fun: rubber dinosaur suits, clunky…

“I asked for uranium and you gave me reptiles!” Somehow the dreck that was Carnosaur 2 made enough money on VHS that they came out with another a year later. No final, eles metem c4 na boca do trex e a cabeça dele explode, como é que achas que eu podia não gostar disto?? Armwrestling scene; Polcheck; Marine’s guy gets head eaten scene;

Monk is now a dumb donkey. Whole movie is a dumb donkey. This goes the loud, fast, and dumb route of trying to amp up a big step down of a retread of 2. Adds a ton of b action movie padding that is just really shoddy and makes the absence of poorly lit chomping dinos exasperating.

Another Carnosaur movie? Well this one wasn’t half bad at least. There was some fun dinosaur action and some goofy villains and military people’s but this one was just slightly forgettable. The raptors were pretty funny here and the guy who thought he was buying uranium and got dinosaurs wasn’t even mad, but who would be? 🦖🦖🦖🦖🦖🦖🦖🦖

A really fun mid budget Roger Corman creature feature, weird janky rubber suited dinosaurs and editing and lighting that hurt my eyes. A delightful time in that mid budget B movie way.

Looks like a Friday the 13th nightmare!!! Aside from the seldom cool gore FX we get this might be one of the most deeply unserious third entry in a series I’ve yet to see

A much better film than the 2nd. Still not as good as the first, but manages a lot of random car explosions and incredible acting.

Looking back at my review of Carnosaur 2, and I have to say I was way too hard on it. That one is at least a competent Aliens rip-off. This is just a total mess of different armed groups going to the same tiny warehouse and getting chomped by velociraptors and a super stealthy T-Rex. I do love how they show even more of the Dino’s this time and how rubbery and grotesque they look by this point. It all ends on a boat and sadly doesn’t have a T-Rex vs. Heavy machinery finale like the other ones.

As referências a “Alien o Resgate” continuam, mas dessa vez é um filme muito mais genérico e cheio de personagens desinteressantes.

people keep blaming The Bourne series for ruining action films with their usage of shaky cam, when in reality they should blame Carnosaur 3

Of course not in the same stratosphere and even shaky for a…

Horror x 52 2025 Challenge – Prompt #26: Physical Media These movies are so stupid, but I love the Carnosaurs. I get super happy whenever one is on screen. They are just so goofy and funny, especially when they run. Unfortunately, that doesn’t happen as much as I would like in part 3. There’s still some fun and dinosaur carnage to be had though, so I think this one’s worth a watch.

Wow. It’s hard for the third of movie of series to do something new. Carnosaur 3 borrows from Pedator 2, so you tell me any other movie that’s done that. The movie is craptastic and really low budget, but its less than 90 minutes and I had had fun and what more could you want.

carno-sweep. Even for its grandness the threequel seems to really embrace misogyny. truly a tragedy for the generations of carno-heads to come. The dinos were great be it not ventilation dwellers this time. And the gore but kills not so.

Imagine if the dinosaurs were escaped insane asylum patients in dinosaur costumes. 😂

the dialogue is trash, the ADR is bad, the camera work is occasionally good. this is like a Joel Silver movie if Joel Silver had been hit in the head a whole bunch. Carnosaur 3: Primal Species walked so Future War could, uh, also walk🤷🦖

I like it, but a downgrade from the previous entries Still has the ridiculousness, but less gory effects. Carnosaur 3 is good.

The best of the Carnosaur series. Imagine Sci-Fi channel pre-CGI and add Roger Corman factory vibes. Worth it to see a raptor punched in the face. Suck it Jurassic Park.

Rarely has a movie gone over a cliff this hard. All the budget clearly got blown on the opening scene with the ambush of the military convoy; the remainder turns into total incoherence, including the near-extermination of most of the characters and an entirely new cast showing up just stood there in a corridor saying “Hello sir, we were sent as reinforcements”. Likewise, the carnosaur itself reverts from an OK-when-briefly-glimpsed effect to something barely better than someone running around in one of those cheap inflatable T-Rex suits.

Carnokino is back on the menu. In some ways Carnosaur 3 is better than 2, it has an original, if not pretty generic, plot and isn’t just trying to rip-off Aliens and has more on screen dino action (with the funny looking suits for 2 returning), though whoever decided that most of the kills needed to be shot in black and white or in slowmo needed to be fired. The movies attempt at witty banter between the soldiers is pretty…

Riding on the high that Jurassic Park created, the makers of Carnosaur sought to exploit people’s love of dinosaurs with a low budget series, and this installment is no different. Except in this one, it’s like someone said “hey, what if we took the concepts from Jurassic Park, and then added in a bunch of misogyny, military going after “terrorists” (think Team America but not satirizing it) and then have them all stuck on a boat with not one, not…

Sure it’s not as good as 1 or 2 but dang it I still love it. They got more inventive this time around with the story since they couldn’t copy Aliens.

🎃 Terrible Terror 🎃 – #8/31 Another instance where I had inadvertently skipped over previous instalments in a series. This film is known in the UK (or at least my copy) as just Primal Species. I’m not not sure how much it would have helped if I saw the first two films in this series, especially because it was fairly obvious early on just how cheap and irreverent this film is. As expected, Carnosaur 3: Primal Species (1996) is simply…

Just bad honestly, the worst of the trilogy so far, I don’t have much to say about it, not fun to watch at all
-
C
This is…low-key the best one so far? Don’t get me wrong, it’s still low budget shlock, but it has more self awareness than the other two and I laughed quite a few times. It’s definitely not beating the Aliens clone accusations though, this one takes that idea established in the last movie and runs away with it, straight into a raptor’s mouth.
-
F
Kinda refreshing that this entry only borrows 50% of the plot of Aliens. I love these dumb, rubbery dino flicks. I think they only had one raptor suit this time which they keep reusing for every attack scene and a barely functional T. rex? Anyways Corman was the best at squeezing out genre turds that tastes like buttery garlic. Still waiting for Vinegar Syndrome to drop a 4K boxset of the trilogy!

It can be entertaining, but best recommended view with friends to roast how terrible it is, but there is that lost charm with B films that you don’t see anymore post 20th century.

There…

None of these movies are interconnected at all, and that’s a good thing. They’re all vastly different, and this one is no exception. This leans more towards the B-movie action genre. The acting fluctuates between terrible and over the top. The budget is far smaller than the previous entries, but more animatronic and practical effects would have made it stellar.

The previous was bad but at least it was somewhat enjoyable here we are back to where we started but it’s somehow even worse. This is a cheaply put together film the gore effects are all right but the cameraman seems to sleep every 5 minutes so it’s hard to really enjoy them. This film is disastrously Incompetent it’s easily the worst film in this collection of films technically there are more films in this franchise raptor and eden but…

Dinosaur Week 2024 First Time Watches Watched via YouTube Carnosaur 3: Primal Species, released in 1996, is the third film in the Carnosaur series, once again produced by Roger Corman. Carnosaur 3 was the first Carnosaur film released in the UK, but was just called Primal Species. This was a little bit better then the first film, but not by much. This definitely had a lower budget then the first two, but it didn’t confuse me like the first, and…

I have stared at this for a while, thinking, what do I write? What words does Carnosaur 3: Primal Species conjure in my mind? And mostly it’s just been the word “boring”. It’s not the worst thing I’ve seen, at the start there are some neat explosions, so that’s cool. I think Rick Dean, who was one of the better things about the last one, is also one of the better things here. It’s just nice when actors inject a…

A rare cinematic anomaly. Back to back sequels to a franchise with the same actor (Rick Dean) playing a completely different character in each one. There’s actually TWO repeat actors in these. The other one is the guy who played Stuart on MADtv.

The occasional smirk-inducing one-liners and accidental moments of decent cinematography are the only things saving this film from being an insult to the medium entirely. The film looks terrible, trudges through a nonsensical plot with awful characters, and features some of the worst creature effects I’ve ever seen. Despite the crews’ best efforts to conceal the dinosaurs in darkness, fog, and shaky cam there was no hiding from the reality that Primal Species is just plain terrible.

The most forgettable of the “Carnosaur” films. The first two were just cheaply-made copies of better action movies. But this one isn’t even copying anything better.

No mesmo nível do segundo, mas dessa vez traz situações ainda mais bizarras e um elenco totalmente desprezivo.O gore aqui é bem mais intenso que os anteriores, mas nada que melhore a situação.

Not as good as previous 2 films but it’s still some mindless fun. Rick Dean steals the show, he’s absolutely hilarious. The brilliant dinosaur puppets return. Similar vibes to Aliens at times, just like Carnosaur 2. It often feels like a cheaper retelling of 2. Just an absolute cheesefest from start to finish. Biggest complaint is that it’s overly sexist. Recommend watching if you’re looking for a fun dinosaur b movie, or a fan of the other entries!

Bought this from a shady video store in 2002, got nightmares about dinosaurs eating people in the truck for the rest of my life, especially that gnarly t-Rex roar, honest to G*d, that is the most horrific and awesome roar I have heard in my life next to Jurassic Park I’s. They should make a Dino crisis 1 movie that’s like this too (I played that game as a child, which was my generation’s Five Nights at Freddy’s) 10/10

The Dino effects are about on par with the second, but the cameraman spazzes…

I love this shit, I don’t care. Not only that… I’m making the bold statement that it’s objectively good. Sure, the Dino’s never look “real”, but they always look fun. This isn’t Jurassic Park (though I’d watch this over almost every sequel to that), but it never tries to be. Yeah the characters definitely do not seem like a real military force, but uh… idk how to tell you this: Movies aren’t supposed to be real. Nor do they have…

Rating: 2/5 Watching Carnosaur 3: Primal Species felt like a cheap direct-to-video action-horror sequel that shifts even further away from horror atmosphere and more into low-budget military creature chaos. The story follows terrorists accidentally unleashing stolen dinosaurs in a city, leading to armed confrontations and attempts to contain the creatures before more destruction occurs. The film focuses mostly on shootouts, pursuit sequences, and dinosaur attacks, with very little suspense or character depth. What stands out is how stripped-down it feels…
- Synopsis
- International terrorists get a surprise when their cargo turns out to contain living dinosaurs. The army commando team now have to think fast, if they want to prevent the extinction of the human species, instead of the reptiles.
