i’ve been trying to finish this rewatch for over a week now which really sums up how my quarantine is going. also, these two movies were cinematic nirvana when i saw them in theaters as a kid and that feeling never went away. who wants to go treasure hunting with me when this is all over?

Why no one cites Cage going bonkers in a London museum, offending half of Europe with rapid-fire accents, and sliding ass-backwards down a bannister as one of his finest moments I’ll never know. Everything has a treasure map on it.

Friendly, fun, witty, and loaded with Nicolas Cage; National Treasure: Book of Secrets is a film overloaded with silly moments but it always works because of its globetrotting ferocity. We need a third film. Now.

These movies are such a fun blending of history and adventure in a way that few movies have been able to achieve. They might not be the best movies out there, but they are a ton of fun and worth rewatching ever so often. Plus this one has much more Cage-isms than the first (the scene in Buckingham Palace was peak!)

In no way as good as the first one, but I really believe they should have continued making these.

One of those films which a sequel is so obviously ridiculous that a it renders anything after absurd. I suppose the original was absurd too, but this one lurches into parody. Nick Cage is fairly reserved in the 1st, in this he becomes far more Nick Cagey. Some very bizarre scenes. A bit of family melodrama. I didn’t care for it.

enjoy this a lot but obviously not as good as the first one, love the water scene

WHATS ON PAGE 47?! Ed Harris does besmirched and wants redemption/vengeance/to prove themselves (right) villain so well. Don’t know if his sacrifice/change of character at the end fully made sense, but I think it was shot and played well! So much care for their great great grandfathers and their names! I guess it was to prove their innocence in assassinating Lincoln, though I also feel like that can’t have been too cared about nowadays?? Was NOT expecting, and didn’t remember…

“how am I gonna get him alone? I’m gonna kidnap him. I’m gonna kidnap the President of the United States” – Ben Gates love how they made this sequel a big treasure hunt around the world, and the comedy is amazing. almost love this better than the first film

This sequal is just as good if not better than the first, it still takes me a journal of mystery, adventure and awe! I just love how these films make me feel such a feel good movie all round, the storyline is stellar, acting is fantastic from all the cast. Also what the hell is on page 47? Does this potentially mean there could a 3rd movie, who knows! Area 51 maybe? The missing 18 minutes of the watergate tapes, maybe? The fountian of youth, maybe? The mystery the director has planned in my head is so good!

The resolute desk history/clues and getting the President’s secret book were fun moments; otherwise it’s missing a lot of magic the first one had. There is an upgrade from the first movie (not….)- instead of interesting new relationship tension from the first movie- Now you get messy relationship drama between not just one, but two couples… The new bad guy is as interesting as mud. Page 47. 47th president. “Life-altering”. Donald Trump is life-altering. National Treasure 3 confirmed to release in Trump’s 2nd term. The most unrealistic thing in this movie are all the times a crappy, pixelated camera suddenly produces a clear enough image for the next clue, and this is a movie where the president has a book of America’s secrets. Verrrrry convenient re-writing of history to make Mount Rushmore seem like it was a good idea.

Proper all inclusive fun few San Francisco with a slice of free YouTube films skipping parts. Nick Cage was hammering the blue lagoons a bit too much and fell asleep bare sunburnt ouchy. Does it beat mission impossible on a Sunday night on BBC 1 I THINK NOT unlucky mush.

The Cage-ing continues. Second viewing after initial screening in 2007 at theater. Fun thrills and humor throughout, even if second act feels a little disjointed and stylistically fell flat. Strong cast with fun chemistry returns with welcome addition of Hellen Mirren and Ed Harris despite undercooked role for Ed. Cage is empowered to have a crash out in London which is always welcome. Randy Travis cameo at “My Presidents” birthday party was heartfelt nod to the days of the noble…

Nic Cage is far more unhinged in this one. The movie is better for it but it’s not as good as the OG. Also, what a coincidence that the first Uncharted game came out the same year as this. TBH there is no Uncharted without National Treasure. Change my mind

Benjamin Gates learns that his ancestor may have been involved in the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. To clear his family’s name, Ben searches for a mysterious missing page from John Wilkes Booth’s diary. He travels around the world with his friends, solving historical puzzles and searching for hidden treasures. In the end, Ben finds the legendary City of Gold and proves his ancestor was innocent.

Ed Harris’ character in this is so ridiculous lol. Just a total asshole
-
M

Nic Cage ainakin on. Kolme tähteä Nic Cagelle.
-
T
All around a solid sequel, some elements are overplayed and trying to top the first one but still a fun watch.
-
A
a good one

Kids should walk around the White House lawn accusing people’s ancestors of being part of the Lincoln assassination more often. Also, this is much less convincing and developed than the first movie.

Riley and the boys have to get back out to make National Treasure 3. I need more clues like I need air to breathe.
1 -
L
There’s a reason I only watched this movie once as a child. The clues were not very connected and too easy to find, the “bad guys” weren’t even solving the clues & were just riding on Ben’s coattails, and the underground treasure trove was a death trap that actually resulted in a death, which is the only part I actually remembered because it’s pretty dark for a kids movie. Also Helen Mirren and Randy Travis what are you doing here???

-
E
Probably should have watched the first one first, still pretty good tho

1 -
D
The summary of this part is “listen to Riley” Loved this movie as much as I did as a kid
-
B
Not as good as the first National Treasure, but it has its moments and has a Nic Cage freak out scene that the original was sorely lacking. It’s the same movie with small tweaks to the formula here and there. Nothing wrong with that. I’d watch a thousand of these lol. The Nic Cage “Over-Acting” meter: – There for the paycheck – Bad Performance – He gets the job done – The Guy Can Act! – Over-Acting and Fun – He’s batshit insane National Treasure: Book of Secrets: He gets the job done WHAT’S ON PAGE 47?!

Higher budget macguffin chase. Still just coverage, but it has wides and some real locations. Blind patriotism escalates as sigma Cage teams with sigma president to protect the legacy of the Great Emancipator himself. Watchable.

While more of the same from the first but a bit worse, National Treasure 2 is a fun watch because of the insanity of the concept and big set pieces. I know a lot of people LOVE both of these and have especially been warming up to this one, but they’re movies I think are perfectly fine 2000s adventure movies that I enjoy but don’t personally hold too highly. However, we NEED MORE adventure movies that are fun and have over the top ideas. So… National Treasure 3??? PLEASE!!!

Nick Cage is 10 times more unhinged than the first film. I can’t tell if this was a deliberate writing choice, or if the directors simply lost the ability to keep him sedated. At one point he screams directly into the camera and then breaks down laughing. It felt strangely personal, like a cry for help, to me – the viewer – specifically. Nick Cage, if you are being held hostage by the National Treasure writers, please film a third one and blink twice in the first scene. I won’t rescue you, but I would enjoy a third National Treasure movie.

I saw this movie in a dollar theater in Laie, Hawaii. Whole family was there for a Christmas getaway. 40 people, aunt, uncles, grandparents, it was a wild ride. There was a hole in the floor of the aisle. I lost a tooth in the middle of the movie (I was 9). I was sitting by some of my cousins. Rather than getting any kind of napkins or anything, all my uncle did was confiscate the popcorn bowl to prevent any blood from contaminating it. Anyway, this one’s all right.
