I absolutely adored this. Ambitious as hell, hilarious throughout, an absolute delight. I immediately wanted to watch it again. This impressively elaborate and constantly surprising time-travel-mockumentary-adventure-drama-Back-to-the-Future-II-love-letter directed by Matt Johnson, starring Johnson and Jay McCarrol, is immediately one of my favorite comedies, and one of the best films of 2025. Highly, highly recommended – and see it with a crowd. You’ll miss half the jokes under the laughter.

On one hand I worry about overhyping this movie. On the other hand I think it’s a genuine miracle and feel a moral obligation to do everything in my power to get anyone and everyone I can to see this thing in theaters ASAP.

Comedy masterpiece. There’s a gag related to THE HANGOVER that might be the funniest thing I’ve ever seen.

Saw all three seasons of The Show for this and The Show The Movie left me in tears by the end. There’s such a brilliance in making something of this sort. How do even describe this to someone you’re recommending it to? So peculiar. Matt and Jay are one like so yin and yang, it’s perfect- the OG duo! Loved loved loved insane journey! I’ve been thinking a lot today…

This film is a feat.

Genuinely how is this movie even possible im so deeply confused

My internet cut to part where Mr Jay bird shot an innocent person but ironically made the part funnier. Shooting is not funny by the way.
1 -
D
my current favorite part of the movie is still when jay shoots and kills that guy because: 1. its really funny that he just assumed a gun lying around was a fake gun and immediately pointed it at someone without thinking 2. his cluelessness about the world leading him to this naive assumption 3. the fact that he even HAS A GOLDEN GUN IN THE FIRST PLACE WHY DOES HE HAVE THAT ⁉️⁉️ AND! 4. his favorite game is getting…

Obama… OBAMNA!!! This is like if Yesterday was an actual good and smart movie that was good and smart too The funniest movie of the year. It’s not even close. Also genuinely one of the best time travel movies we have gotten in a long time. For literally no reason. It’s pure genius what was created. And I don’t think anything ever will be made like this again at such a pure form of true love and care. Everything went right for this movie. This is just how my brain works. If anyone has questions I will refer them to this movie.
-
B
Perfect comedy!
-
R
Legitimately maybe the best time travel movie ever made. The reveal that they’re in 2008 and all the context clues are legitimately some of my favorite recreations I’ve ever seen. The discussion of the prevalence of H1-N1 legitimately is the hardest I’ve laughed during a movie in years.

it’s so unbelievably silly but also a stellar use of my evening, how are you able to pull off mockumentary filmmaking and also pretend it’s a different year completely. there’s so many subtle points problematic things to signify it’s 2008 (having things like the hangover scene in the cinema and the will smith slap works like a charm). it’s just simply insane how good this is “you’re missing an great visual joke” had me in stitches

Rewatched this and yeah it’s still a good movie but not a perfect masterpiece like a lot of people on here have said.

not what i expected, funny and acting was great. when i woke up at the end of the movie, the ending was great. extra half star added, taken from my boyfriends review, who actually stayed awake the whole time!

Rewatching this after having seen the viceland series and a couple of Matt’s films has me really appreciating the movie so much more. This is the culmination of over 17 years of work and friendship between Matt Johnson and Jay Mccarrol and it is amazing to see and inspiring to me and what I’m trying to pursue in my own life. A true testament to “if you build it, they will come.” Which has slowly become a personal mantra I…

I’m waiting for you to be great!

It’s crazy how much is said, and how little is Syd, in this commentary. Just as much time is spent giving in depth behind the scenes details as is spent just arguing and bickering over each other. Not to mention Matt Johnson just housing slices of pizza and talking with his mouth full. These boys crazy

we are trapped in 2008,,,,,,the question is how do we use this to get a show at the rivoli ngl I don’t know a damn thing about the web series or tv show or whatever it was but I felt the need to finally watch this to further my cosplay as a city girl. this was incredible I am genuinely dying to know how they filmed some of this shit Seeing Toronto finally free to be herself instead of larping as New York is so charming, greatest city in the world we up

If you’ve got a best friend, you won’t even notice getting older. Even better the second time around. I loved picking up on new little bits this time around. Running into a random raccoon had me dying. I’m in the middle of watching their series and it’s even funnier. Highly recommended.

Absolutely brilliant! Equal parts heartwarming, action-packed, and hysterically funny, all while constantly leaving you scratching your head wondering how in the hell they managed to accomplish this. Move over Scott Pilgrim, this is the quintessential “love letter” to Toronto.

This movie is like, at minimum 25% Back To The Future, but somehow the movie is even better for it. Endlessly rewatchable. I wanted to turn it back on as soon as it ended. Only slight nitpick is I think the camera men may contradict their past selves. Perfect movie other than that. Now someone go find me some Orbitz.

went in blind barely knowing anything about the show and goddamn what an absolute blast this was from start to finish, such a delightful watch im pleasantly surprised. legitimately one of the funniest dudes rock movie ever, such an entertaining ride throughout and especially towards i was so anxious worrying about Matt and Jay among all the chaos and silliness. there’s never a dull moment. instantly going down as one of my favorites of this year. i might even watch the TV show that’s how enjoyable it really is.

Ô Canada! Instructive to watch such a low-budget home-movie craziness next to a 70s low-budget home-movie such as some product of the Dziga Vertov Group: today nostalgia, bonding and sweetness (and a little political anti-correctness) dominate, the (male) duo replaces the (hetero) group, and there are no such politico-philosophical fantasy constructions as “the system” (be it spectacle or capitalism) to be opposed, rather the right and praxis of (Canadian) cultural self-determination with a doze of self-irony.

I liked how this film took a lot of very random turns while also keeping a general tune to it. The feel of a documentary made it first feel like it would be an underdog story about a band coming into greatness, then after a second it felt like it’d be a comedy focused around the two of them doing anything but becoming famous, then once the time travel started to hit it felt like it would become a Bill and Ted type of story, and then by the end it became a lot more of a touching and heartfelt movie than I’d expected.

Çamlıca kulesinden saraçoglu stadyumuna paraşütle atlamaya tevşik ettiren film. Her sahnede oha bunu nasıl çektiniz çüş dedirten bi komedi. Büyük bir indie sinemacılık başarısı. Bu filmin kamera arkasını herhangi nolan zart zurt filmden daha çok merak ediyorum

It feels like a real miracle that this was somehow made. It’s hard not to root for this film with how scrappy it feels and it wears that on its sleeve so proudly. Constant laughs the whole way through, really likable characters, and a very distinct vibe. In a year where we have The Odyssey pushing what’s possible with a camera, Nirvanna is doing the same thing but showing that you don’t need the GDP of a small country to do that.

So incredibly inventive. I have never watched the show or any specials, so I imagine this only gets better when you understand the depth this goes to. But dear lord there is some stuff in this I haven’t the slightest clue how they pulled it off. Matt Johnson is a force in front and behind the camera. A wonderful proud Canadian filmmaker that makes films that feel Canadian in the best of ways. But seriously, there’s some shots in here that make Marvel’s visuals look like amateur hour garbage.

WOW I LOVED THIS. Basically a sequel to Back to the Future made by real artists. Hilarious and so heartfelt with an incredible ending. Feels based on their real lives in many ways. Loved how original and zany this was. Some incredible CGI work as well and many jaw dropping moments especially with the stuff in public. Underrated gem from this year. Can’t wait for what is next for Matt Johnson after this and Blackberry. Tony looks great too.

I haven’t seen a new comedy movie this good in a long time. A premise that is hilarious and followed with loyalty that only gets funnier everytime they use it as a punchline. Editing/filmmaking which is truly perplexing to watch. A movie birthed out of a near 20 year project. This thing is a special comedy for all enjoyers of those who appreciate a good comedy duo.
