A world class comedian at the peak of his star power, a hungry and talented young director, a pitch perfect soundtrack and a fantastic array of character and improvisational actors take an otherwise 70s B story and turn it into something special. Eddie Murphy as fast-talking cop Axel Foley sets a bar that he has never surpassed. Judge Reinhold, Steven Berkoff, Bronson Pinchot, John Ashton and Ronny Cox hold their own (but not their laughter) with Murphy, with Cox, Reinhold and Ashton having fantastic chemistry with him and each other. Action and editing are top-notch as Martin Brest showed a talent that hinted at a big career that unfortunately did not come to pass. Producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer…

“Disturbing the peace? I got thrown out of a window! What’s the fucking charge for getting pushed out of a moving car, huh? JAYWALKING?” -Axel Foley I swear Eddie Murphy must’ve been the coolest guy back in the 80s.😎👌 This has got to be my most rewatched movie (this or LSOH). It’s so damn entertaining.🤣 Killer soundtrack too! Mike from Breaking Bad is in it as a dead eyed goon called Zack😵. He looks unrecognisable with hair.😱 Shout out to Daman Wayans for his weird ass cameo as the banana man. 🍌🤫 So silly!

Look I prefer the infinitely lazier COP 2 because of its barely tolerable shtick, early Tony Scott sheen, and star vehicle laziness, but this is the real thing, a snobs vs. snobs comedy starring one of the most incandescent performers of all time that also happens to be an accidental satire of so-called by-the-book law enforcement. Could not have worked with a white lead actor. A true phenomenon.

I found it pretty weird that Eddie Murphy doesn’t have a romantic interest in this film, and then I realized it was cause of racism. Anyways, as for the actual story though, Eddie is truly on another level on this, but not in the way you would think. Eddie Murphy is subtly funny in an in your face way if that makes sense. He just somehow gets it. Even when he says fuck in this movie, it doesn’t even feel like a curse word. Truly he mastered the art of cursing for this. Ok movie that surely will ramp up in its sequel

What an interesting movie about Eddie Murphy being an undercover vigilante in “Beverly Hills” as the movie title suggests. It depicts a clash of traditions and procedures between the very western police department of Beverly Hills and the more ruthless one all the way over in De-fucking-troit. This film follows Axel Fortnite trying to avenge his friend’s death as he was gunned down for stealing untraceable Reichsmark bonds. What a cruel fate fell upon him. Instead of sitting at home…

Beverly Hills Cop remains one of the decade’s purest crowd-pleasers: a fast-paced, super-entertaining fish-out-of-water buddy-cop classic that still feels fresh and endlessly rewatchable. Street-smart Detroit detective Axel Foley heads to the manicured lawns of Beverly Hills to investigate the murder of a close friend, only to crash headlong into the buttoned-up local police force and a slick criminal operation. The plot is lean, propulsive, and perfectly calibrated for laughs and action without ever overstaying its welcome. Eddie Murphy delivers what…

It was a fun time, and it’s always great to see 1980s rich people places. A couple of good laughs but I’d probably say it was highly amusing rather than outrage hilarious

Classic Eddie, best Eddie.

Every time I saw the bad guy I js thought he looked like Woody Harrelson. Also that theme song does not shut up, why is it genuinely played in like every scene.

The first 20 minutes after the initial chase scene are a bit slow when compared to most classic action films, but the film gets more engaging once he arrives in Beverly Hills. I was expecting more of a comedy since Eddie Murphy tends to have more comedic bits, but he’s more cheeky than funny. It’s still a fun and entertaining ride. Soundtrack is legit too 👌
-
J
Still ridiculously funny. Eddie is firing on all cylinders in this one, and he’s wearing white Sambas. What a king.

Albeit a bit too cheesy at certain parts, “Beverly Hills Cop” is a fun, lighthearted action/comedy that holds up fairly well to this day. Some moments are definitely more hilarious than others, but the overall result was still pretty satisfying and was still a wildly entertaining ride the whole way through.

It’s breathtaking seeing an artist fire on all cylinders and never is that as true as with this movie. Murphy is moving into his imperial phase with this one, and would keep climbing for the rest of the decade 👌

Beverly Hills Cop is an enjoyable enough 80s action comedy with solid performances, great music, and well done action sequences, but the the villain was pretty underwhelming to me. I honestly wish Jonathan Banks had been the lone bad guy, he was way more menacing and interesting than Steven Berkoff as Victor Maitland. Also, I normally vibe with Eddie Murphy’s comedy but a lot of the comedy in this movie just fell a bit flat for me. Judge Reinhold was endearing as always though! 🫶🏻

Having somehow not ever seen BEVERLY HILLS COP, and having come into my Eddie Murphy exeperience with the post-HARLEM NIGHTS filmography, I’ve got to say that I have been, all these years, missing out on a huge chunk of the Eddie Murphy experience. He was an affable everyman. He was the type of guy that everyone would love hanging out with. In fact, in BEVERLY HILLS COP, he befriends cops in Beverly Hills, he reconnects with old high school buddies.…

There is simply no world in which this isn’t considered an absolute, stone-cold classic. It is 105 minutes of pure, uncut 1980s cinema bliss, serving as the definitive blueprint for the modern action-comedy. At the center of it all is peak Eddie Murphy in full-blown, undeniable star mode. Before Beverly Hills Cop, Murphy was already a household name thanks to SNL, 48 Hrs., and Trading Places, but Axel Foley was the role that launched him into hyper-stardom. This isn’t just…

Has to be one of my favourite Eddie Murphy movies of all time. He was really at his best here. Beverly Hills Cop will always be a comfort movie. Great acting, great story and shot really well of course. I loved the action scenes as well; they still hold up pretty good. Watching it really reminds you how good Eddie used to be.

A fantastically paced film with a killer score and genuinely funny, believable characters. Putting the heavy use of 80’s tracks aside, my primary reason I’m conflicted with this one is the blatant promotion of police misconduct like the “blue wall of silence”. Basically, Axel Foley is a cop from Detroit who decides to investigate a case while he takes a vacation to Beverly Hills. This causes him to come into contact with local law enforcement and upon doing so he…

Eddie Murphy can make any movie funny. Great soundtrack, not a super long film, and not much filler. A simple, movie, plot, and ending but sometimes that is good. In this case the simplicity kept it easy to stay engaged and laugh along.

What kind of shit is this, man? Hold up, wait a second! You guys are arresting me for getting thrown out of a fucking window? I got thrown out of a window, man! Eddie Murphy is awesome as Axel Foley, such a great comedic actor in general and his laugh makes everything ten times better God you can’t beat that theme, I’d consider it the best for a detective comedy, right in front of Fletch.. perfectly encapsulates the film And the action is damn good!

Yeah I think this movie solidified Eddie Murphy as my favourite actor. This guy is the goat of comedy his line execution and timing is just perfect. The film was pretty good some nice action scenes and great comedy stemming from Eddie Murphy with an interesting story to follow along. I think this could become another comfort film for me of Eddie Murphy just like Coming to America. Hopefully the other Beverly hill cop movies aren’t terrible because I really enjoyed this.

V
The ultimate culture-clash thriller where Eddie Murphy completely steals the show through sheer charisma and lightning-fast improvisation. Beverly Hills Cop didn’t invent the fish-out-of-water cop blueprint, but it set the gold standard for how it should feel: sharp, rhythmic, and effortlessly cool. Beyond the iconic synth-pop score that gets stuck in your head, what keeps this film so alive is its organic 80s energy—the stakes feel genuine, but Axel Foley’s wit is always one step ahead of the gunfire. A classic blend of action and comedy that hasn’t lost a bit of its edge.

Eddie Murphy is just fucking hilarious in this. Axel Foley is such a great character and basically everything about the movie works because of how much personality and energy he brings to it. I love the whole Detroit cop getting thrown into Beverly Hills dynamic and watching Axel basically bullshit his way through every situation. The chemistry between him, Taggart, and Rosewood is great and only gets better as the movie goes on. The action is fun, the comedy still…
