I think what ultimately prevents the magnificent Andor from elevating the installment it leads into, whereas something like Clone Wars did wonders for heightening the tragedy of Revenge of the Sith, is the fact that this film simply does not hinge on Cassian as a character the way Sith hinges on Anakin. Sure, I got more emotional at Cassian’s fate in this film knowing the full context of his life, but before you get to that (and the admittedly still great final battle), you have to deal with bizarre pacing, an overstuffed roster of characters, some truly groan-worthy cameos, and the unmistakable stench of reshoots that don’t paint this as the most cohesive film in the world. Overwhelmingly fine. Man, oh man, this sure is a fine movie. Those characters are definitely very fine. The writing reeks of fineness. Oh by gosh by golly the story sure is fine. It’s all fine. I had a fine time watching it. To be fair tho, Krennic and K-2SO are amazing. The last 10 minutes are sufficiently powerful and dramatic. The action is stellar. Fits very snugly into the canon and compliments A New Hope nicely. I understand why this is a fan-favorite for a lot of people; it takes itself way more seriously than the other Disney Star Warses. Feels much more real. Like I said, I think it’s fine. And that’s enough.

Rogue One might be the best thing Disney has done with Star Wars. (Apart from the excellent Andor series) It understands that the series doesn’t always need Jedi or Skywalkers. Sometimes, it’s enough to follow ordinary people taking on an impossible mission. The final act is still incredible. The Scarif battle is thrilling, chaotic and genuinely heartbreaking, especially because we know how it ends. And then Vader shows up for five minutes and reminds everyone who he is. This better every time I watch it.

so so so so so so so (x20) good! really gets me every single time. cinematography is stunning. cast is a 10/10, mads mikkelson, felicity jones, donnie yen, riz ahmed, DIEGO LUNA (actual loml) they just complemented each other perfectly. it has so much heart and emotion. it fits so neatly within the original trilogy. Vader is truly one of the most iconic, badass villains ever. Leia’s cameo at the end offers some hope in a relatively somber ending. score is beautiful like no notes, it’s perfect

Mein Abend bestand aus Arbeit abgesagt bekommen -> Bayern Supercup gegen extrem schwache Dortmunder -> Rogue One schauen. Hätte 4 gegeben den halben extra gab’s alleine für die Darth Vader Szene am Ende generell das Ende ist so krass.

I’ll get the negative out the way first. After a good introduction the story in the first act is clunky and meandering and I could really do without Riz Ahmed reminding everyone that he’s a pilot whilst fiddling with his expositional pilot goggles. However the action scenes are tight and well done which makes up for any issues with the plot. Then the next 2 acts are absolute powerhouses which build real suspense and emotion. The cast are great and Mendelson makes a great baddie. But the real star is the direction and the attention to detail. This film is beautiful.

Yeah this is still top 3 Star Wars, it still manages to impress as a stand alone and now with Andor its only elevated even more. Definitely the best looking Star Wars film, cinematography is incredible, Roger deakins as always does great. The acting aswell is great with no clear weak link, Ben mendelshen in particular is so so good as the villain. Probably a debate for the best third act in Star Wars, the battle of scarif is amazing. Only real problem was the cgi tarkin and leia, very jarring and off putting.

One of the stronger – if not the strongest – star wars movies. Still falls prey to centralising around a few key heros (although less so compared to the skywalker saga), and uses Star Wars tropes as a crutch (blowing up big station, disguising as storm troopers, deus ex machina backup pilots), but a strong narrative with more interesting characters than the other films.

I think the only other time I cried this hard was when my childhood dog passed away. Best movie of the entire Star Wars franchise.

Rewatched this after finishing Andor. Definitely very different in tone. The ending hits even more though, knowing everything that Cassian sacrificed. Best of the Disney Star Wars films.

One of my favorite modern Star Wars movies. Yet somehow, Andor makes it look rushed, like a disservice to Cassian. Despite this, still an incredibly fun ride that I’ll never grow tired of

took almost 40 years for Star Wars to depict war—at least with people, and not just actors in cockpits reminding us there’s someone inside the flying & exploding models and CGI it delivers on its concept and actually does something different with the franchise
