I like it when in movies characters tell each other stories and we dive into the story through a conversation. I like the concept and how Trier made this deeply intellectual conversation work. The gimmick of it just started to seem to pretentious to me over time. It was so intellectual, that it felt performative and not actually interesting anymore. But that might as well be my problem, and not the films itself. Trier is really great, I like his camera, pacing and ideas a lot and am excited to finish his filmography

watched the director’s cut in theaters. that runtime was definitely felt, and this one is barely two and a half hours long – comparing it to the director’s cut of vol. 2 which is a solid three hours. the whole uma thurman scene legit blew me away, but i also really enjoyed chapter two so much that i thought it could have been longer. chapter four, on the other hand, did not need to be that long. will be looking to watch the director’s cut of vol. 2 at some point soon, but probably not in one sitting. lol.

Love Lars films.. loved this one too. Felt tame since I watched Antichrist beforehand, alotttt of genitalia shots in ways I’ve never seen including a dick montage which we hated seeing for obvious reasons. And Joe.. My good sis is a hoe that can’t be stopped. Directors Cut “Perhaps the only difference between me and other people was that I’ve always demanded more from the sunset; more spectacular colors when the sun hit the horizon. That’s perhaps my only sin.” Given the explicit subject matter, I thought this movie was good outside of the literal hardcore porn shots. Directors cut was the only option available to us, or so we thought, regrettably to our own demise. From research I see that most of the shots I speak of are removed, outside of a couple. If you choose to watch this, I highly recommend watching the theatrical.

- Synopsis
