Basically a superhero movie where no one understands or appreciates the hero’s power. No one… except the villain. If you need a really dumb hook for getting a kid to watch one of the greatest films of all time.

best part of this movie is Mozart sick in his bed, reciting his compositions to Salieri and as he gestures and indicates the notes, you hear the vocals and instruments through his very presence. you are stunned by the way this mortal manages to convey such a distinct sense of music just through his language, the passion of his creation flowing so intensely that the audio itself shifts beyond reality to fit it all in. Salieri despises his younger genius, but in this scene, even after years of hatred, he is swept up in the genius of his creative process. that’s the kind of movie this is, the one that recognises that the power of creation is one that can alter every experience and preconceived notion you’ve had, even just for a few minutes of song.

The scene where Salieri sits up all night with Mozart to assist him in writing what will be his final piece is so moving, so heartbreaking. To see Salieri, a man who spends the whole film reckoning with his obsession and jealousy for Mozart’s talent – talent which he conflates with intimacy with God himself – become an extension of Mozart and that very talent, is so powerful. I’m reminded of the quote from Victor Hugo’s Les Mis: “To love another person is to see the face of God.” What you see in that final scene between Salieri and Mozart is not jealousy, not obsession, but love.

Clearly the makers of modern day musical biopics aren’t taking notes from this because THAT is how they should be doing it. Nothing short of remarkable. Unbelievable musical set pieces, every frame crafted as if it were a painting and an exhilarating classical score to match. All brought together by two incredible performances perfectly highlighting the complex relationship between the two filled with greed, jealously but also admiration. Genuinely flawless.

Glorified dickrider. This is genuine admiration beyond belief. He’s a dickrider but his genuine love for the game will just not allow him to dismiss magnificent wiring of mozart’s brain He’s a dickrider, but he also understands when shit just out of reach, seeing the bigger picture and knowing he just had to play a significant part of the story of a once in a life time genius in the making just to give his own life some meaning. AmaDEUS *cue Mozart’s laugh* R.I.P. Salieri, you would’ve loved knowing that the actor for your chatacter won an oscar against the actor for Mozart. This was quite the masterpiece, now, wasn’t it? Everything about it was so.. mesmerizing. The dialogues, the outfits, the characters, the direction, the music.. everything was all so mesmerizing. I watched the director’s 3-hour-long cut, instead of the normal 2 hour 40 minute version. And I feel quite good and proud about it, because I cannot…

The procrastination ends here! One of the all-time films your music teacher shows you on the roll-up CRT. Mozart was a cool guy, a real rockstar who smoked crack and enjoyed a good fart. Arguably, not the masterpiece this was hyped up to me as for many years. I think it is very enjoyable, but a little aimless almost? It kind of reminded me of Marie Antoinette, a similarly immense period production following a historical figure everyone already has strong…

Sure, some of the shock factor of the character of Mozart is gone; but there are so many little details that I’ve picked up on rewatch that make me appreciate the film even more.

You know Mozart really was a little freak, but Salieri had him beat ten fold in the crazy department. Bro was certifiably insane. I hate when people say they don’t make em like they used to, however this film warrants it. This movie is truly remarkable. The insane composition, both in music and direction of photographer is impeccable. The production design is on a whole different level. I honestly loved this movie, albeit it was a little long.

This might be the most accurate communication of what it’s like to observe a genius, from the perspective of one who isn’t. My favorite act is the one where Mozart is playing to almost nobody, and his opera only runs 5 times before being abandoned fully. Yet, despite this, Salieri went to all 5 showings in secret because he knew that what was being presented was the work of mastery, true mastery in the art of music. I think it’s…
