Beautiful, horrifying, devastating and haunting. Very difficult to watch, but worth it for so many reasons. J.A. Bayona delivers a film that I won’t soon forget. While some of the larger set pieces (the plane crash, the avalanches) are technically astounding, it’s the raw humanity of the writing and performances that shine through the most. I’m frankly amazed I haven’t heard more chatter about awards for this, as I think it’s absolutely one of the best films from 2023, hands down. Something of a pity that a film this grand in scope and so cinematic is relegated to Netflix; this deserves to be seen on the biggest screen possible. I absolutely love this film.

My entire audience was dead silent through the credits of Society of the Snow, no one daring to so much as exhale and disturb the shock and stillness that had come over us during this film. I think this is the best man vs. nature/survival biopic I’ve ever seen, and certainly now the definitive telling of this story. Narratively it’s not anything entirely new, I wouldn’t imagine it playing out as well on a rewatch (or on Netflix sadly, see it in theaters if you can!), but J. A. Bayona brings such a grandiose and immersive feeling to this that put knots in my stomach the entire runtime. Will never forget the crash and avalanche sequences. The religious underpinnings are…

no-one of my friends hasn’t seen this movie, so I didn’t know that to expect from it. but after watching it I can say that it’s is one of the best films about surviving, equal with The Revenant. I love this movie for it’s truthful story. how it shows us what they were scared and completely starving. how they were afraid to eat each other, how they were finding solutions for their problems. and of course the beauty of this film is something else. these cinematic shots of Ands, wow!

i saw this movie in 2023 and i’ve probably thought about it at least once a week since. i regularly consider resubscribing to netflix just for this movie (unfortunately, expensive and evil) it was horrifying, heartbreaking, realistic but respectful, and intensely human. i loved it. ps: watch the “making of”! it was an excellent compliment after finishing the film; learning about the casting decisions alone was super cool

“No hay amor más grande que da la vida por los amigos” Dont write reviews like this cuz they seem corny, but i just had to. It all hit me whilst watching the movie: the director didnt make up any of this, it actually happened, and who knows, maybe what they went through was even worse. This is easily more horrifying than any horror movie. Its terrifying and beautiful how humans will strip away every moral, every flesh, just for…

It gave me body chills The plane crash scene is more shocking than jumpscares in a horror film. And somewhere around there, the tragedy begins. It is a movie about the boundaries of morality, human will, a masterpiece. How realistically it depicts cannibalism and raises questions for us, that is how we understand this is not just a movie, but a stunning psychological epic. You must choose between survival and dignity. If you maintain your dignity, you die, but if…

now, you might be asking yourself why did I watch something that made me cry so much not once but twice, and the truth is I, too, would like to know the answer, I guess I’m a masochist

damn society of snow has all the ingredients beauty before tradegy like how the main character didn’t even wanna go but was forced to by his frineds and how desperate they had gotten resorting down to cannibalism but I now its super messed up to say this but the movie is really repetitive it does feel escalating and how resistant the main character is towards the idea of cannibalism and its just like a million atempts of them trying to get out the situation there in but it doesn’t feel like chances are getting better each time it just feels the same enevtually

This is more than just a harrowing story of suffering; it’s a tribute to the mythic perseverance of the human spirit, even in the smallest of actions. The film is centrally interested in how people can keep going, continuing to go on and be capable of joy, even in the most comically terrible conditions. There are no moments of over-the-top melodrama or pointless fights as you’d find in a lesser film, each of these students is dealing with the same…

I cannot believe this isn’t fiction. this was heartbreakingly good, the cinamotography was perfect, and Numa and the audience’s gradual attachment to his character was stunningly captured.
