I know I’m in the minority rating this film so high but I couldn’t ask for anymore from an Everest disaster movie, from the spectacular cinematography, the great performances from the ensemble cast, the well defined characters and an intelligent script, this is really a true spectacle of a movie. An absolutely brutal film about the needless loss of human life when man doesn’t show nature enough respect. This film had me a wreck by the the end of it, even though I knew where the story was going the film took me through a whole glut of emotions from joy and sadness to even anger that these brave men and women really should have known better. Its one of those movies where the idea of watching it sounds better than the movie is. Nonetheless, so far a good movie. btw im still finishing the movie… this is a half way through review. I’ve comeback to complete my review. It’s an average movie at best. Im taking a star off my review. Thought it would be more dramatic. The climbers should’ve checked the apple weather app while climbing.

what’s a shame about this movie is that if you haven’t read the masterpiece that is Into Thin Air, you miss a lot of the nuance of these people and their circumstance. somehow the book, without the images of whipping frozen wind and dwindling oxygen, captures the terror in a way no visual medium ever can. i think this in part because what those people survived is so unimaginable that seeing it with CGI almost makes it look fictional. when it wasn’t.

И я предполагал, что из основных героев погибнет персонаж Джоша Бролина, уж очень много предпосылок к его кончине. Но тут я не угадал. А после просмотра можно сделать вывод, что покорение вершины Эвереста – мечта хорошая, но слишком рискованная и лучше по горам не лазить.

This film is based on a real event that happened back in 1996, and you know what? From this film, I learned a thing or two. The first thing is, if you break the rules, it always brings disaster not only to yourself, but also to others. Period. And the second thing is, in many cases, the climbers’ ego to ‘conquer’ the mountain summit often ends up with nothing good.

Hay que tenerle miedo al Everest Ya conocía un poco de la historia sobre Rob Hall y Beck, pero verlo en una cinta fue toda una experiencia tanto emocionante como emotiva. Aunque fuera una interpretación de verdad me dio sentimiento cuando llegaron a la cima, todo ese esfuerzo humano para llegar hasta ese punto es de admirarse y en lado opuesto los que no pudieron bajar toda esa tensión que nos muestra y la incertidumbre sobre si lograrán salir vivos es muy emotiva. Es muy triste que los cuerpos se quedan ahí arriba sirviendo de referencia para otros escaladores.

If the goal of this film is to tell me never to climb a mountain then it successfully succeeds in its mission. It’s depressing but it could have been more depressing but it also gives you the while survival adventure aspect your looking for in these movies, so it’s pretty well rounded.

Nice movie to watch during a heatwave Turns out, paying $65,000 to willingly enter a death zone where your body literally starts dying isn’t the best vacation idea. A brilliantly suffocating survival thriller that makes you infinitely grateful to be sitting on a couch at sea level.

The actual events on their own make for a compelling story, but you’d never know based on this movie. It’s all just compressed into a bland and generic disaster blockbuster. The atmosphere of misery, dread, and confusion in Krakauer’s book is just missing. I know that it’s not meant to be an adaptation, but for the whole runtime I was just thinking about how much more I enjoyed the book. It’s so forgettable, just a waste Also the beef this movie has with Krakauer is just so weird and out of place

Once again I am saved by the lack of money, that was horrifying and tragic. I would honestly put the sign “you’re not that special” on each 500 meters up to the peak, it’s truly some level of psychopathy you have to obtain to realize the stakes you might lose (besides obvious: life). Then again, who am I to judge someone’s dream. P.S Still planning Everest base camp trek tho!

i read into thin air as a teenager – which was quite formative for me – and i was well aware of the story of the 1996 disaster, and yet i had to pause this multiple times. i can’t say whether this is a good film. a lot of people here seem discontent with the „lack of narrative“ – well, this is kinda how it actually happened and life isn’t necessarily a perfect narrative. a lot of others are criticizing…

Short Review: I watched this film at a friends house back in the day. To this day I keep the same opinion about it. It sucks baaaalls. Between years 2010 and 2018 a lot of turds came out. Absolutely bad plot with characters that are actively trying to get killed. Score: 4.5/10

It was pretty good. I only knew that Jake and Josh were in it but there were loads of famous actors. Jon Krakauer’s name kept being mentioned. I need to find out if this was before or after that guy who was left near the summit and everyone walked past him.
