I really think this film is unfairly maligned as epitomizing the roots of Apatow’s perceived issues (particularly re: shrewish women) when to me it’s the movie that properly confronts them. Everyone’s sympathetic, everyone’s annoying, but in a relatable way. Or maybe it’s just that as I get older, Rogen’s character gets less and less appealing (not that he’s a villain, just that I’d be like Leslie Mann in the corner, sniping away at him and his bum friends). The ending is so perfect–Heigl’s Alison acknowledges that they’re not really right for each other and kinda forcing it due to circumstance, there’s no reconciliation, and then the baby is born and they’re just gonna figure it out. Every Apatow film since has been way too introspective and melancholy but this ending is him achieving the perfect mix of downbeat and heartwarming.

What a strange film. Why is it over 2 hours? Why do the leads have no chemistry? Why is Seth Rogen the lead when Jason Segel and jonah hill are right there and clearly significantly funnier/more charming. Why should are Alison and Debbie written like they owe something to Ben and Pete? Has anyone actually ever laughed at something Seth Rogen has said/done? Knocked Up fully delivers on its premise, anchored by the surprisingly great chemistry between Seth Rogen and Katherine Heigl. Judd Apatow strikes a brilliant balance between crude humor and genuine heart, backed by an impressive ensemble cast that is fascinating to look back on at this stage in their careers. Está buena. me hizo reír y estuvo entretenida. Me gustó que al final el wey sí se hiciera responsable. La verdad yo pensé que desde el principio no lo iba a hacer, así que me dio gusto verlo cambiar su vida por su bebé. Y me dejó pensando en algo: ¿cómo serán nuestros papás antes de tenernos? Porque uno como hijo nunca se imagina realmente quiénes eran antes de convertirse en papás. Obviamente tener hijos te cambia la vida, pero qué raro pensar que ellos también tuvieron una vida completamente distinta antes de nosotros. Está graciosa, está linda y estuvo buena para pasar el rato.

Paul Rudd and Iris & Maude Apatow are the real stars of this one guys. All of Ben’s friends being the only people called by their real names also sent me. But I can’t look at Jason Segel the same way anymore.. that tracksuit and the things he says… (this film is so of its time in some terrible ways. i’m a sucker for a rom-com but it was often a hard watch.)
