A whole hell of a lot. Snyder fully commits to big, sappy emotions and weird grandiose gestures, and the result is that this is bizarrely most interesting in its first half with all the shoe leather of bringing these now much more fleshed out characters together. Unfortunately a lot of the reconstituted footage is riddled with shoddy VFX and the action beats remain mostly unchanged crummy digital smears, only now they go on much, much longer. Still it’s a ridiculous miracle of sorts that this even exists at all, so unwieldy and sincere that it frankly transcends good and bad and becomes purely artifactual, and I never thought I’d say this but I’m mildly bummed he’s not going to get to do more of these.

I first saw this back when it was new, in my final year before having a Letterboxd account. I think this was the first time I didn’t really like a movie without basically being told to not like it, as I thought it was too long. Trying to revisit it now….yeah, I’m still on that stance. Justice is Gray for the first time. Snyder’s own dedicated monochromatic look. This means more to me than you can possibly imagine. The way the lightning looks around the heroes, the way Flash’s lightning is more prominent, everything has this sense of timelessness all the way through. Combine that with the mythical aspect, the reason I love this vision in the first place, my feelings for this are just amplified even more. Absolute miracle.

Zack Snyder is really passionate about making movies and you can feel it in every frame. I think that’s wonderful. Alright I- it- look I went in with an open mind, but it’s so rare to see something where do much is happening that clearly swings so hard.. but ultimately is a chore to watch because nothing is making me feel ANYTHING. Rewatch I’d rather watch this than 75% of superhero movies. It is ageing like a fine wine. The 4 hour runtime and epic scale is reminiscent of the westerns and sword and sandal films which used to be on TV every Sunday afternoon. There is nothing particularly brain taxing in there, you could miss 10 mins, yet not miss anything at all. In ye olden days, ZSJL would’ve been called light entertainment.

This is the one. Roller coaster of emotions and God damn great superhero story telling. I do love Cavil as Superman but not because he is willing to kill or be brutal it’s just in this role he is Superman. I will say Ben Afleck is my low key favorite Batman and I will fucking Bat fight anyone who says different. The characters are all strong but you need the full directors cut because the other is raw butthole or one grain above.

i love watching movies with my family and zach snyder’s justice league is among the notable ones not only is it the longest movie we watched, but also because we just had so much fun the entire runtime. massive action sequences, sublime dark and gritty cinematography, and of course the highlight: CAST LOOKED REALLY FREAKING COOL TOGETHER. seriously just in awe of how perfect they all looked and how their chemistry with each other translated on screen. like yeah you guys are the justice league! lol

Watching the theatrical Just League and this back-to-back really shows the difference in vision between Zack Snyder and Warner Bros. While the story is the same, they are completely different movies. Sad that we didn’t get this movie as the sole Justice League film because I enjoyed the direction Zack was headed towards. Under appreciated for what he was trying to do. Hopefully James Gunn can bring back the squad.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League’s greatest strenght is also it’s biggest weakness. It commits wholly to the Zach Snyder aesthetic, which clearly appeals to some, but leaves others, like myself, with a sense of dissatisfaction. It also doesn’t justify it’s runtime and ends up feeling rather bloated.
