Synopsis

After falling from the Twin Towers, Kong lies in a coma for ten years. When his heart begins to fail, scientists engineer an artificial heart, and a giant female ape is captured to serve as a source for a blood transfusion. When Kong awakens following his heart transplant, he senses the nearby presence of the female ape and the two escape to wreak havoc together.

Kinda boring but it has its charms… horny rage kong, Linda Hamilton’s hair, a Dino De Laurentiis production… I kinda dig it for what it is, a weirdo Sunday morning shitfest movie that I remember watching about 15 times on channel 11 when I was a kid. I love the 76 Kong and this sure as hell is a far cry from that… but somehow this shockingly managed to keep my interest better than the 2005 Peter Jackson offering—yikes. I’ve seen far worse.

A completely needless sequel to the 1976 remake of King Kong. King Kong Lives picks up ten years after Kong was shot down from the top of the World Trade Centre. A rich company has been keeping the giant ape alive for some reason, but the need for a blood transfusion leads to the capture of a female ape which is also brought to New York. The plot is pretty lame and the action is even more lame. Everything really just serves as an excuse for Kong to be rampaging around, sometimes with the new female ape in tow, who is named Lady Kong and not Queen Kong for some reason. There’s a definite attempt to make the apes sympathetic.…

Quickie: This direct sequel to the 1976 King Kong is as indirect of a direct sequel as you could get. Not only made a decade after the first but without any of the same characters or actors. It’s also just a weird movie, it starts with Kong getting open chest surgery and ends with him dying in front of his new born son. That might make this movie sound interesting but trust me when I say it’s not worth watching. The pacing is off and the story is so aimless it makes this movie feel longer than it is. Even though this movie checks all the Hollywood hack criteria boxes, an action scene here a romance sub plot there, it…

Easily one of the worst King Kong features, this one scores lower on average than Son of Kong and King Kong Escapes. Honestly I think I enjoyed it more than Son of Kong, although not by much. Like these other two I mentioned there’s some charm, mostly in Linda Hamilton’s performance and Kong’s rampaging. I’m of the opinion that it could’ve had more action, but I think most others might be complaining about the lack of plot or the shallow characters. As is I found some enjoyment in it as I do most bad Kaiju flicks. Now, this is more like it! No weighty pretense, tons of Kong (s), and a goofy streak a mile wide. King Kong looks like a bodybuilder, Linda Hamilton takes things deeply seriously, and there’s destruction ahoy: Jeeps get smushed, buildings are crushed, and hillbilly hunters are ripped in half. Kong even goes out like a Peckinpah protagonist. You can dislike the fact that King Kong and Lady Kong are constantly giving each other googly eyes and smiling like doofuses, or you can have a blast with it. Up to you! I’ve always been baffled by the fact that crusty old British director John Guillermin came back to helm this long-gap sequel (Ten years later!) after having such a miserable experience…

King Kong list Oh the irony This is quite literally the MV Kong persona before MV Kong was even conceived. Occupies that same space as films like Reptiliucs and A*p*e* for me; it’s easy to view it through a lens of objectivity and say it’s nothing more than a valueless piece of cinematic slope and in fairnessI wouldn’t entirely disagree with that sentiment. However, the medium of film and art as a whole is one that I believe is best experienced (watching or discussing) when seen through the lens of subjectivity and if that be the case I’m not ashamed to admit I love slurping up some good schlocky slope. I won’t lie this isn’t some unappreciated gem…

KAIJULY: MONKEE KONG So far most of the dumb, stupid and silly films have been in the Big Ape canon, not the Big Monkee one, but this one changes this by having a wild Kong tearing people apart as if they were a Hershey’s bar. Lots and lots of explosions. Also, Kong finally gets a lady he can get jiggy with, you know, without having to work some weird science. She isn’t blood, though? She was honestly kind of a surprise. That scene towards the end where Kong gets all teary-eyed—that was incredibly unexpected! Let alone get me dropping some tears! And that thing looked so damn cute. A lot of the emotions from our monkey amigos are conveyed through…

King Kong in a coma I know, I know It’s ridiculous Apparently when a King Kong & a Queen Kong have a baby they make… a normal sized gorilla, full body hair and all. He’s certainly no Mighty Joe Young. This is completely unnecessary to begin with but it tries to have a little bit of everything. A little humor, a little of the humans fighting for Kong’s rights, a little of hillbilly shitkickers hunting and torturing King Kong so we’re reminded who the REAL villain is here: MAN, we get sentimental music as Queen gives birth, we get sad music when Kong is shot by the military AGAIN. All the beats are here, including nobody able to locate A GIANT…

Ranking the King (Kong, that is) “The movie is about Kong, about special effects, about jeeps being blown up.” – John Ashton It’s hard not to be a little charmed by the silly heart transplant scene, with its comically Brobdingnagian medical equipment and surgical instruments, and Kong’s heart being lifted out with a crane. It sets the tone for this bizarre sequel that nobody asked for. How you’ll respond to this is really down to what you’re in the mood for. It’s not the melodramatic blockbuster that its predecessor was. Much like Son of Kong, this is really just some light adventure fluff. There’s no real sense of danger. No emotional weight. Aside from the ape costumes, which were always a delight, I think the general movie experience is fun, but really only if you and some friends rip on it the whole time – there certainly is a lot of things that make you go “huh?” but also a few things that make you go “NO WAY!”

Ostensibly, this is a direct sequel to the 1976 King Kong remake. The first five minutes here is footage from the end of that movie. We see Jeff Bridges, Jessica Lange and Kong himself atop the World Trade Center Twin Towers. Kong is shot 100 times and falls 110 stories down to his death. But wait! Kong is NOT dead. He’s been in a coma for ten years while Linda Hamilton creates a giant artificial heart that can be transplanted…

If you’re going to make something unnecessary and stupid, you might as well make it silly and odd Wins points over Kong ‘76 because at least it’s playfully ridiculous (when Kong and Lady Kong escape together, they wind up hiding out on a mountain called Honeymoon Ridge). This one’s also a pretty bad Kong movie, but, instead, it’s a really fun pulpy American kaiju yarn. It’s really the only one I can think of using traditional suitmation and Showa-era heightened…

Dear Diary, BOX OFFICE PUNISHMENT DAY 3: “We’re primates too” This feels like a calm before the storm. It’s not an awful movie, it’s just a bit boring. Following the events of the 1976 King Kong, it turns out after being shot multiple times and falling from the Twin Towers, Kong just had a bad heart. My dear friend Tyler chose for me to watch this. Why all the sequels? I feel it has something to do with me making…

“We’re primates too.” An hour and forty-five minutes of vaguely decent human drama with a sprinkling of giant ape romance. I think the special effects are pretty solid but if you’ve, say, watched twenty-two odd kaiju flicks in succession before this it does get to a point where that magic just can’t sustain something that really has no reason to exist.

The nutritive equivalent of a bowl of fruit loops, this unlikely sequel strove to accomplish one thing, to remove your dollars from your pockets. There is no coincidence this came out just after Linda Hamilton’s appearance in The Terminator, money was the goal and nothing could stop them. A subpar script? Didn’t stop them. Special effects that looked phoned in? Nope. The only real quality here was the ham acting that gives this Kong that fruit loops speciality, that Saturday morning cartoon feel that made the 1976 version seem Oscar worthy. It’s OK, don’t expect much.

The movie starts off strong, but becomes very uneven in terms of plot as it jumps from one topic to another. Alrernating scenes of people being ripped in half with the apes giving each other googly eyes also feels weird. I liked the miniature work (Kong chomping alligators is definitely fun) and the apes are quite expressive, making them feel like sympathetic characters instead of monsters. But sometimes a bit too expressive, like Kong faking an injury to get some nookie. Overall it’s OK, could have been better.

Damn is this embarassing. Linda Hamilton tries to act the crap out of this disaster, but nothing can erase the sequelitis “we still have monkey suits we already paid for”, the audacious yet bizarre return of dead Kong “heart transplant!” the stepdown in cinematography and effects “Rick who?” nor the ridiculously tedious finale “military bad, love good!”

The sequel to the 1976 Kong is not great ngl. The plot is a bit silly overall, the effects are not good and contains two love stories, but only one is believable, sorry Hank. However it is still a pretty good double feature with the 76′ Kong, has post Terminator Linda Hamilton in the lead, the music is pretty good, it’s inventive and camp. Better than i expected! Linda Hamilton! Unfortunately King Kong is giving Harry and the hendersons in this. They never even give the female king her own name… just Lady Kong. Just as i was getting kind of lukewarm on the whole story Kong rips a guy in half, eats another guy. He should have killed more tbh. No real big city smashing, the model work is fine really with a few good moments. Spoiler: they should have called this Kong lives, then he dies, then he lives, then he dies, then he lives one more time before dying at the end. Made me miss Godzilla.

“I want that ape’s head on the hood of my pick-up..!” How to put this? I never expected this utterly unnecessary sequel to John Guillermin’s ’76 remake (with the director returning) to be any good. And I wasn’t disappointed. However, I was actually expecting worse. So comatose Kong re-awakens, gets a girlfriend, then they go on the run from the military; and rednecks. The latter group is dealt with appropriately (and quite brutally). Never boring; but also never any good. I’m glad I’ve eventually watched it though. Just so I can say I did…

Some goofy stuff to enjoy like Kong getting open heart surgery, and Kong and his girlfriend are really cute together. That being said, there’s no sense of awe like the last movie, the cinematography is a lot flatter, and setting Kong’s rampage in the suburbs makes the whole thing feel pretty low rent. Anyway, I hit the spoiler button so I’ll give this away: Kong’s baby is just a regular sized gorilla. Based on that technicality, I’m including this in the gorilla suit list, even if I didn’t particularly care for it.

Is it something good or something I wanted to see? Not really. It’s pretty glacial, and it’s filled with a whole lot of inconsequential nothingness. But then again, so is America 🤪 Anyway, it’s not as heartless as Son of Kong (1933) but still not entertaining as the good badness of Megalon, which is quickly becoming my measuring stick for such things. One fateful night in 1976, King Kong fell off the Twin Towers. We heard his heart stop. We watched a crowd gather around his lifeless body, celebrating the creature’s defeat. Except, actually, no we didn’t, because the same government that sent helicopters to mow him down also sent a research team from Atlanta to collect his body. Kong, we find out, survived the thirteen-hour trip and the intervening decade, but he’ll soon die without a blood transfusion. As luck would…

It’s fine, but fun, and that’s a surprise! I actually kind of prefer this. This sequel to the 1976 movie feels more inspired by Toho and Godzilla. We got: Lady Kong, artificial heart transplant, battles and destruction, and more! My favorite scenes are the one-offs where we see Kong smoking people. Hunters dynamite a mountain to trap him? Nah, you get torn in half or eaten. You’re just having a barn party? Sorry, Lady Kong has got to lie down.…

Those hunters had it coming! Kong fighting the US military is awesome. Definitely one of the “weirder” entries in series canon, but I can vibe with it.

The ultimate ‘so bad it’s good’ film. Kong somehow survived the fall from the twin towers, and a decade later after a blood transfusion from Lady Kong he gets a mechanical heart. Not only that, he then goes on a horny rampage which results in him snapping people in half and eating them. It has to be seen to be believed. I can’t help but enjoy this film. It’s fun just for the huge ape carnage. I love the ending…

Comes close to the quality of Godzilla from the early 70’s. Guillermin is allowed to have some fun and Kong is amazing.

sequel to the 70s remake this 80s film is does a lot of leg work to get a story going and bringing kong back, problem is that its dull. So if you didnt come for the story how about the effects? Nope, they are cheap and a bit iffy. Not a great one

The original Kong sequel gave us his son. The sequel to the remake gives Kong a girl. An okay sequel ten years after the remake, the Kong design looks better we dont have to wait to see kong, all that build up to the king was in the previous flick. It has more fun, more killing and more ape. But compared the the previous instalment its not better just good and entertaining. And then it ended with the birth of…

Dino De Laurentiis returns to the well one too many times with this thoroughly insulting, thunderously stupid sequel to his 1976 remake. This time, we discover that the giant ape didn’t actually die from his plunge off the World Trade Centre; he’s merely been in a decade-long coma at an institute in Georgia, desperately requiring a giant mechanical heart transplant. To provide a necessary blood transfusion, adventurer Brian Kerwin treks into the Borneo jungle to capture “Lady Kong,” a conveniently…

Nobody gets thrilled in the movies anymore. They’ve seen it all. King Kong is a gorilla that stands 50 feet high, and everybody takes him for granted. Four redneck hunters chase him into the woods, for example, and set off some dynamite to trap him under tons of rocks, and then they tease him with burning logs. If these hunters were sensitive and thoughtful like the folks in the National Rifle Association ads, they wouldn’t tease Kong, they’d regard him…
