How do you make a movie about the rise of fascism when you don’t believe in the material and institutional failures of liberalism that made it possible? You make a completely inscrutable case for how it was the tragic inevitability of a world dominated by personal identity and choice. I also liked the part where Grindelwald confirms that the literal holocaust takes place in this universe, making the whole Voldemort = Hitler thing super bizarre. Like Grindelwald’s platform is still muggle genocide so he’s basically arguing that if we just put all muggles into camps one of them is bound to be Hitler so therefore he’s preventing the holocaust??? However at least Rowling’s perplexing, simplistic political worldview is sort of engaging in a hilarious way, the rest of this is still just plain boring. 2 hours of setup for 15 minutes of incomprehensible plot reveals that might make sense in 6 years when the fifth one comes out.

imagine having to go up to a harry potter fan from 2008 and explain some of this shit to them. “so,” you’d say, voice breaking, “here’s the thing. dumbledore’s secret brother, who is at least 20 years younger than dumbledore, was in a relationship with voldemort’s snake.” “wait, so aberforth fucks goats and this new one fucks snakes?” they’d say, laughing with the blissful ignorance of not yet thinking this is real. “well, she’s sort of human.” “oh, like an animagus?” “no. she’s a new, more racist thing. also grindelwald (jamie campbell bower) seduced dumbledore and then grindelwald (colin farrell) seduced dumbledore’s secret brother. and apparently colin farrell’s wizarding dick was so good that dumbledore’s secret brother left his snake…

more enjoyable than the first movie. I like this movie better heh especially seeing the new magical creatures :3 there’s this one that looks like a cat OMG it’s so adorable!! Queenie and James if I’m not mistaken is so sad 🙁 I hope there’s more people that watch this movie!!

Watching for the first time since it came out and…. wait I actually really enjoyed this! Looked great and so immersive and cinematic. Can’t wait to get to the inevitable Dumbledore vs Grindelwald showdown they’re setting up! Also shoutout to Zoë Kravitz’ jawline.

Drops more lore than the first movie we kinda lost the plot of “Fantastic beasts” and lead more into Dumbledores prime time but not complaining too much just thought it was funny, filled with more emotion and impactful scenes, I did find myself getting lost idk if that’s my short attention span, constantly asked myself wait “why are we here?” Or “How did they get here?” When we ended up in a new location.

Les Crimes de Grindelwald Ce film confirme malheureusement ce que je craignais après le premier volet : cette nouvelle branche de l’univers Harry Potter semble surtout chercher à justifier son existence plutôt qu’à raconter quelque chose qui mérite réellement d’être raconté. Le premier avait au moins pour lui une certaine légèreté. C’était imparfait, parfois maladroit, mais il y avait Newt, ses créatures et cette découverte d’un univers magique différent. The worst film I’ve ever seen. Watched this movie in the theater with some of my friends in like 2019 and I still think about how boring this was sometimes. At least movies like Kung Fu Rabbit (2011) fail so spectacularly they are interesting to watch. I can’t even bring myself to give it the lower score of a .5, because a .5 implies that it at least fails in an interesting way. Don’t watch this movie.

Not great. I think I liked the first one more but this one was still okay. I liked seeing more of the Harry Potter universe and getting more of Grindelwald and Dumbledore. Johnny Depp is pretty good as Grindelwald and Jude Law is probably one of my favorite parts of the movie as Dumbledore. The movie looks great and the magical world is still really fun to see but the story is way too complicated. There are so many characters…
