i was gonna complain but then i remembered something my dad once said when the hobbit movies came out “the movies might not be great, but any time spent back in middle earth is time well spent” and having spent my entire childhood obsessed with harry potter… i’d have to apply that logic here to the wizarding world universe

i didn’t see the point in any of the scenes without Colin Farrell so when he downgraded into J*hnny D*pp near the end i ejected the dvd and sent it back to Netflix (i still use DVD Netflix). i’ll never know how this movie ends and i’m 100% fine with that

Somehow completely forgot that this ends on an oppressed child being straight-up executed by the bureaucratic state, the villain being outraged and demanding change, and our Good Ally heroes just briefly sad about it before going back to the adorable animals.

Rewatched with friends. Got super angry thinking about how the two gay characters are a pedophilic supervillain and a kid who gets murdered by the state.

they’re not fantastic beasts, Brent. there are all sorts of issues with this movie, which pales in comparison to even the first two Harry Potter films, but rather than grouse about the clumsy knotting of the various plot threads or how Newt Scamander is a nothing character or how the fantastic beasts are all like the dullest of Digimons (except for the kleptomaniac platypus), i just want to whine about the devastatingly poor use of CG. we’ve become so concerned about how this stuff looks that we tend not to think about the value of what it *does,* and its application here is gruesome. this old timey new york city is a sterile, hollow hellhole of copied-and-pasted buildings… every scene…

Unfortunately just wasn’t really my thing, was either bored or confused and it took me like 4 days to finish. I will give it the benefit of the doubt though, I feel like I would’ve enjoyed it more if I had read the books.

Seru kok, but it’s just too slow for me. Kek banyak part aku greget bgt krna terlalu bertele-tele. Rasanya ku pengen bilang, “Sini lah biar sama gue aja, lu pada ga becus, gitu aja kudu drama dulu.” Secara world building utk wizard world us ya, mnurutku oke sih. So instead of ministry, they have MACUSA and led by a president. Trs mereka nyebut muggle as a no-maj, tpi squib ttp squib, agak janggal. Tpi mereka juga punya auror dan disebut…

“Will we die, just a little?” I’m continuing with the Wizarding world movies as I can’t seem to get hogwarts and Harry potter out of my head. Since I’ve never watched these fantastic beasts movies before this was a great experience!! It was a good plot with a nice main character and I love how It took place in America. It was very refreshing to learn more about other wizards from other places and what slang they use.…

Started watching this in May when I was moving out of my college dorm in my senior year. Finished watching it in August whilst moving into my house for my grad year. How poetic. 10/10 movie to have on while doing chores.

The scene where they go into the suitcase is the same feeling as Harry walking into the tent in gof. I can’t get over how awkward and a little shy Newt is, just mumbling.

Although it fails to capture the magic of what made the Potter movies so special, any time spent in the wizarding world is enjoyable. This is the best of the three fantastic beasts movies and I’m half tempted not to bother re-watching the other two. The plot is quite self-contained and the menagerie of magical creatures are strange and interesting enough. Where the film hits its mark best is when it focuses on the madcap caper of Newt (played very…

The magic of the Wizarding World still works. Newt is adorable, the creatures are fantastic, and the whole thing feels wonderfully nostalgic. ✨🪄

Fantastic Beasts has some charm to it. The plot is very complicated and has too many moving parts. Additionally, the elements where Newt is trying to wrangle his escaped beasts feels very underwhelming. This movie also has a bad habit of BSing its way into resolutions. Newt is a strong lead, however, and he has a good dynamic with Tina and Kowalski. The roaring 20s is also a compelling and interesting setting for the Harry Potter franchise and I like…

How can a project this big flop? It feels like everything is there but somehow, the whole backbone of the movie is in shambles. I could be wrong but I believe this movie would have been better if the team behind it did a better job with the art direction and sequencing. Or the director they picked just wasnt the right one, I guess? Also Harry Potter fatigue is a real thing

Better than some of the Harry Potter movies but I wasn’t too invested in it. Some cool parts here and there though.

magic is amazing. Started watching this because I heard it’s in the same universe as Harry Potter’s. Honestly, I thought it’s just another magical movie but this movie is damn whimsical in my opinion!! I love anything that’s whimsical. Every magical creature is so beautifully made by the author OMG, some of em is so adorable too especially the platypus looking like and praying mantis shi. Newt character is so good, despite him being very chill or quiet person. He’s…

The closest we got to a Hagrid movie. How original, the main cast is being opposed by the ministry! Surely that has never happened before. Remember that Adam Sandler trope where he always makes his character have a super hot wife? Most unnecessary villain reveal ever and most uninterested reaction to that. Like what do you mean you do not react at all after realizing that one of the most high ranked Aurors is actually one of the most powerful, feared and hunted evil wizards?

Simply put, this is a fine movie. David Yates’s portrayal of a 1926 New York, giving us a window into its own wizarding world ties, was done rather well in my opinion. What’s more, is Yates obviously has an eye into the scope of adapting Harry Potter and bringing those books to life, but this film’s an interesting case. Meaning, this is a newly given premise, with nothing to directly pull from or adapt, so to add to the obviousness, the…

jujur yaa, menurut aku alur ceritanya tuh lebih menarik daripada harry potter, cuman nih film kalau dideskripsiin tuh kayak, kamu bikin makanan pake bahan2 yg berkualitas, tapi rasanya ngga sesuai, nah gitu. ceritanya tuh kayak dijejelin terlalu banyak gitu loh, jadinya kayak masih banyak yang butuh dijabarin. semisal satu film awal nyoba ceritain petualangannya newt kayaknya seru deh (menurut aku) yaa intinya gitu, dan satu lagi, eddie redmayne’s acting was really good, ekspresi yg ditunjukin dia sbg introvert, awkward, and kinda weird guy tuh dpt banget menurut aku.

S
Didn’t have enough ugly and grimy folks like the HP movies did or the charm of practical effects and realistic green screens (although they may not be too realistic through my adult eyes) but I did think this was super charming and loved the 1920s ambience. Would’ve loved to see more practical effects for the beasts though, that would’ve been incredible. Also unnecessary fraternal conflict with the election.

This is my favorite movie from the entire Harry Potter saga. Colin Farrell is so sexy and plays the part perfectly. Credence is a meek little man. You can’t help but feel sorry for him. Despite seeing the movie before, I doubted my memory of Credence being the obscurial when Graves goes to his sister. I especially like how Newt, Tina, and Jacob are on a not-war-related quest for the first half of the movie, and stay out of the war until the very end. It makes the movie so much more exciting. AND THE VISUALS?? Ugh, so perfect.

I think you have to be a real Potterhead to enjoy these extended universe movies. Sadly, I’m not overly invested in Grindelwald’s fascist takeover, nor in Newt the Pokemon master (or his bumbling romance with Ms. Straight-laced), so this saga (originally meant to be 5 films!) will never be for me. Watchable but ultimately forgettable.

ezra miller made me feel things i really don’t get the hate for this film, some franchises don’t need prequels/sequels but if it’s there it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s bad. definitely not perfect and honestly it didn’t give me that magical feeling harry potter films give me, but i still really enjoyed it. acting was great and johnny depp was there 😛 also i FUCKING love you newt scamander i need a man like you in my life

A magical return to the Wizarding World that feels both familiar and refreshingly different. Newt Scamander is such a lovable protagonist, and Eddie Redmayne brings a perfect mix of awkwardness, kindness, and charm to the character. The 1920s New York setting gives the Wizarding World a whole new atmosphere, while the creatures are easily the highlight. Some genuinely creative and adorable magical beasts, mixed with some surprisingly dark moments. It doesn’t quite reach the emotional heights of the original Harry…

Kind of a surreal experience on a number of levels. Firstly, seeing the Wizarding World set in America feels very odd, especially in the 1920s. Then of course the whacky and whimsical Newt and his entourage of ridiculous creatures. But more than that, it’s the way that the “No-Majs” are treated more like animals than the magical animals themselves. Quite a strange mixture. But it’s definitely still an exciting one, as old-timey New York City becomes overrun with all manner…

Not amazing. I really wanted to like this more because I love the Harry Potter universe but this one didn’t really do it for me. Eddie Redmayne is good as Newt and I liked his character but the story felt a bit too slow at times.
