Primitive War is the best cgi dinosaur movie that doesn’t have Jurassic in the title. It’s a tough task to bring dinosaurs to the silver screen without spending hundreds of millions of dollars. Primitive War does a great job of delivering on the Dino’s with only 4% of the budget that Jurassic World Rebirth had. The Dinosaurs have a ton of screen time. My favorite part was a Creedence Clearwater dinosaur montage. The Tyrannosaurus looked great, and the Utah Raptor reveal was very impressive. It’s not without its faults. For example: there is a Brontosaurus that doesn’t appear to be touching the ground. I’m fine with it. I’ve just been wanting a good non-Jurassic dinosaur movie, and the Aussies delivered! The CCR soundtrack was a bonus.

Legitimately more enjoyable than like the last three Jurassic World movies. Shocked at how good some of these dinos look considering the budget. It’s hard to believe this is an indie Aussie movie at times but Sparke pulls off a lot of magic tricks to make this thing punch way above its weight class. My only complaint would be that it could use some tightening and there are some… questionable… accents, but when the dino action hits it hits hard and this movie enters Dino Crisis territory in the best way.

Realistically I think this should be lower but I have a soft spot for anything dinosaur related. This movie suffers massively from a shitty third act, which massively ruins the movie for me. It has such a great concept and I do believe it is executed well within the first 50 minutes. But after the stupid reason for the dinosaurs shows up it just looses me. The CGI at the start was good but I also think they got to big for there boots with what they could do with the budget as in the end the quality drops.

Remember seeing some buzz from this film last year and it was overall mid tbh The dino cgi and action set pieces were my main only highlight the designs lowkey so cool and it was nice to see dinos with blood and gore for once. Unfortunately the characters and plot are so bland and derivative it ultimately becomes boring outside the dino action. It is still impressive what they achieved with the limited budget though.

IDC about any hate towards this movie. With such a small budget they made something amazing. The cgi for the dinos was great during the action scenes however lacked slightly in other scenes. Cyclops was an absolute badass. My main concern was the amount of “heroic sacrifices” that occurred 😭. It felt a bit much eventually. Had just the right amount of gore and I wasn’t bored at any point. Small details like cyclops covering Gerald’s mouth when he is gutting him was so cool. Anyway my fav Dino movie oat 🦕

I had my doubts when I heard the premise but after finally watching it, I thought it was fantastic. Being a low budget, indie film, there are rough edges in nearly every department but if you can forgive these and see the ambition, you’ll be rewarded with some of the most kick-ass action I’ve seen in a long time.

Guys, I know we want more unique dino movies from the studios, maybe with more blood and gore, and we want better, cooler CG to boot but please dear god don’t just write off and diss Primitive War. It’s actually a really good indie flick and really gory. Like Carnosaur 2 glory. Also, don’t you just want to wander through a field with a herd of lovely Dreadnoughtus? At least, I do.

God damn a lot of love went into making this… it stretches its budget to the max and while not perfect, the effects are fine and the fact the movie plays it straight makes for an enjoyable war movie with dinosaurs… a bit more thought to characters and a few minutes shaved of the run time would have made this something special, but as it’s stands, it’s enjoyable action fodder.

Even with it being 100% CGI and some of it not good at all. This is probably one of the best dinosaurs movies in 30 years. The way they utilize the Dinos in this are better than any of the last 4 Jurassic movies combined. The problem is everything else, bland script, acting, and a plot so forgetful that you forget about while you’re watching and also way too long of a movie.
