Michael Gandolfini gives a truly impressive performance here as the younger version of Tony. It’s way beyond just the fact that he looks like his dad. He’s got the voice, the mannerisms, the posture, the thoughtful (and sometimes menacing) eyes. It’s honestly uncanny. In a way though, Gandolfini’s performance undermines the movie. It reminds us how central Tony was to The Sopranos; here he’s much more of a side character, and the people who are the focus instead — mostly Christopher Moltisanti’s dad — aren’t as complex or as interesting. Plus, while Gandolfini absolutely brings young Tony to life, some of the other actors playing Sopranos characters might as well be doing imitations on SNL. And they look even worse in…

35 Jeez, what a clunker. Sure, there’s a few solid performances here, especially from Alessandro Nivola, who knows exactly how to handle a de-mystified Dickie Moltisanti, self-loathing and all, and Michael Gandolfini, who carries a weak role with pure physical prowess. But it’s pretty ironic that this ends up being such a middling gangster riff, with an incessant jukebox soundtrack, typical mobster violence, and a dreary funeral tone overcompensating for flat characters and a jumbled mess of a narrative. Not great that I thought more about the similarly mediocre Black Mass than anything Sopranos related. Alan Taylor’s television resume is impressive but this falls right alongside the duds of Thor: The Dark World and Terminator: Genisys.

I try to avoid hyperbole as much as I can, but Im 100% guilty of waxing lyrical about things that move me, or with stuff I feel is important. It’s not an exaggeration to say The Sopranos is one of the greatest TV shows ever made—that’s just consensus. Where I run the risk of jumping from effusive to full blown atomic hyperbole, is when I say The Sopranos is one of the most important pieces of art from the last 100 years. It directly and indirectly influenced TV, movies, and mainstream culture for over 20 years. It helped legitimise TV as a medium for more in-depth storytelling and character development. The big budget dramas and thrillers that filled cinemas weekend…

More. It would be impossible to sum up “The Sopranos” in a single word, but some of them sink to the bottom of David Chase’s storied television epic like a dead FBI informant dumped into the Atlantic. Respect. Family. Gabagool. More. More. More. More. The insatiable desire for more — more money, more power, more whatever the fuck you can take from this world — never crystallized into a slogan the way it would in executive producer Matthew Weiner’s “Mad Men,” but New Jersey mob boss Tony Soprano was at heart the largest and most perversely likable incarnation of a classic American archetype: The bottomless pit. The double-or-nothing. The never-ending breadsticks. He was the bastard son of a country where…

So you’re telling me….. the LEGENDARY, the FABLED, the IDOLIZED MARTYR of Dickie Moltisanti, that was propped up on the biggest pedestal of all time in The Sopranos, was KILLED OFF because motherfucking Junior Soprano hurt his back and couldn’t fuck a woman for at least a month, and Dickie laughed at his fall. The incoherency of that plot point is just as incoherent of the rest of the film and I really just cannot accept this as canon. Edit: I don’t care if you think it’s in character for Junior to put out the hit. In fact I don’t disagree with you. But my opinion that it was the downfall of this man over a joke like that doesn’t sit well with me. Logic makes sense, shitty story writing does not. Any more comments alluding to whether I’ve seen the series or bringing this up again will br deleted! I’m over it! Move on and comment on another review!!!

Spent the last month watching the greatest tv series ever for the first time… And then I watched this. Some decent performances can’t save what is somehow an extremely bloated but also a really shallow and bare bones film.

prequels teem sempre este problema de serem muito previsíveis, e yah dava para ver quem é que ia morrer e quem não ia morrer numa cena. O corrado NUNCA mataria o dickie so porque ele riu se de ele cair like cmon man.

Una historia más o menos que no significa casi nada. creo que se pudo aprovechar más para una mini serie. un final (medianamente bueno)acelerado y prácticamente nada que agregar a la serie.

This is nothing like The Sopranos. Why is everything so clean and neat? It doesn’t feel real. It feels like it’s all manufactured, a feeling you don’t want to have in any movie, and I never had that feeling while watching the show. Paulie’s actor? Awful performance. Sil’s? Bad. Pussy’s? Terrible. Pretty much everyone from the show was bad, except for a few. Michael’s performance was good, no more, no less, like a solid 7/10. I liked Vera Farmiga’s performance,…
