There should be a GODFATHER PART IV but BACK TO THE FUTURE II style with old Vincent going back in time to help young Vincent during the events of GODFATHER PART II.

Look, I won’t argue that there’s a lot going on here the previous ones didn’t already do better with regard to the violent corruption of capitalism, the sins of the father punishing the rest of the family, mob life as Shakespearean tragedy, etc. but idk Coppola still has the goods behind the camera (backroom discussions of business, family, death and regret in Willis browns and shadows is simply what cinema is), adding international banks and the pope introduces a not uninteresting thread about money vs. god and I think Michael (now a sad, aging diabetic who just wants the best for his kids) going full circle into an old, “respectable” don filled with regret completes the cycle of irreparable pain…

This movie gets way too much hate. It should have been named Coda from the beginning instead of part 3, as Coppola and Mario Puzo intended. It’s obviously the “worst” one out of the trilogy, not because of bad acting (as many say) or because they chose Sofia Coppola, but because it lacks that godfather “feeling” the other two movies had. However, the plot embodies the whole point of the series perfectly. Not a great Godfather movie but a great gangster(-ish) movie.

İlk iki filmin daha iyi olduğu konusunda hemfikiriz ama yine de insanların gereksiz abarttığını düşünüyorum oldukça iyiydi son filmde, final sahnesi zaten tek başına taşıyor 3. film çıkmasaydı baba, baba olmazdı seviyorum seni be, senin o Mary’nin vurulduğu, Michael’ın sandalyede yalnız başına öldüğü sahnelerin yeter canım.❤️

Much better than I expected it to be considering how much criticism it seems to get. Maybe not as good as the other two, but still a very enjoyable watch.

It’s not a bad film, but it’s simply unnecessary, had it never been made, it wouldn’t have changed a thing in “The Godfather” saga. The Vincent and Mary subplot is completely superfluous, though the film does a good job showing Michael trying to wind down his illegal dealings in his final years, mend family ties, and atone for the crimes he committed. Al Pacino delivers another great performance.

This movie is a production of corporate greed and I hate that. In my eyes the Godfather is a Perfect duology that doesn’t need a third part. Paramount made this movie for the money, old Francis was in it for the money and even Al Pacino was onboard for the money. This didn’t need to be made at all. And everyone started to blame poor sofia for her bad acting never realizing she gave it her best. She was inexperienced…

Overall the film isn’t great but I rate it this high simply due to some great scenes throughout and the stellar final act at the opera house which I think was quite well done. My least favourite of the trilogy but worth watching once just to finish the story.

The cousins really gave terrible performances, but otherwise I like how introspective this one is compared to the others, and the ending made me feel something. Still I feel like this isn’t the same godfather we knew in the previous two, he was more like before accepting the role, except it makes everything in between jarring.

I really enjoyed this part of the godfather trilogy, but it is not as good as the first two parts. It was catchy, because of the plot, the music and some actors acting, but the acting of other actors around and some other things were just mid. I liked showing the end of Michael, eventhrough it was not necessary in my opinion. Part two made with the murder of Fredo and the rest in the end a really good ending,…

The final installment of The Godfather trilogy is exceptionally good. It almost rivals the first for me, even though there are still plenty of things I don’t like about it. This film completes the circle of Michael Corleone’s life. He is now an old man, beginning to think about his legacy and what kind of future he will leave for his children. He tries to move the family toward legitimate and respectable business, but once again finds himself surrounded by…

Just when I thought I was in, it pulled me back out. One of the things I really admired about the first two movies was the subtlety of the shots, body language, and score. The silences spoke more than the dialogue. The third movie, by contrast, dictates damn near everything so that nothing is left to interpretation. How are you going to have Micheal, a previously stoic and taciturn man tell Vincent “never tell them what you’re thinking”, and then…

Maybe it doesn’t hold up to scrutiny like the other films. Perhaps that’s blasphemy for Godfather fans but I was entertained and at the end of the day, isn’t that why we watch movies? I like where Michael Corleone ends up at the end of the film. It was interesting and unexpected but felt right for the character.

This rewatch of The Godfathers was interesting, I view them all in a completely differently light now. Part 3 has changed the most for me, I always had a certain respect for it but always thought it wasn’t on the same level as the other two. It holds less great moments than the first two, but its shape and structure are incredible, particularly the sequences of Michael’s reflection into the past (confession, scenes with Kay, Apollina), much is a…

This film might be on a different level than the first two, but I don’t understand the hate. Even though I find the Vatican and immobiliare business a bit comlex, I consider this film good. I will never forget this tragic ending, maybe a little too tragic but i felt it. I do have to say that I found Mary and Vincent’s relationship a bit insincere; nepotism certainly did this film some damage. I also thought Al Pacino’s haircut was a shame haha, but I shouldn’t complain about that. “Power wears out those who don’t have it.”

I’ve been ruminating on this one for a while now… (as this was my first viewing of part 3, having seen the original two in high school and dozens of times since then, both being all time greats for me) …and ultimately I find myself forgiving many of its sins. I think because I was so highly aware of its infamous reputation in pop culture, it made my mindset during the viewing experience more malleable. I could roll my eyes…

This movie is not very good. I think 95% of that falls on Coppola. You can pick whether that’s Francis or Sophia. The death of Michael isn’t as important as one would hope. It just happens. This movie is an incest movie. I’m not wrong. Gross. This could have been the best duology of all time…instead we have a mediocre trilogy:

i like the ending of this trilogy. an aging michael corleone is doing everything he can to fully legalize the family business, get rid of his criminal past, and obtain absolution through investments in corporation. this is a statement of the fact that the system of violence that michael himself once built no longer lets him go, but the world of high finance turns out to be even more rotten, greedy, and cruel than the street mafia clans of new…

I just don’t get it. I have heard behind the scenes stuff, it was for the money, people disagreeing on creative choices, all that, but I still don’t understand why the movie wasn’t better. Maybe not as good as the first two, but at least better. I have seen Godfather Coda, and it’s improved, but still not great. Baffling movie.

Watched the re-edit this time around and unfortunately, it still suffers from a lot of the theatrical’s issues. The perfections of the first two accentuate the imperfections of this one. Without a Brando or a De Niro powerhouse performance, it comes up short.

This is really not as bad as everyone claims it to be. Talia Shire actually gets a chance to take charge. Just wish they could’ve made Vincent Tom’s youngest son instead of Sonny’s to avoid how awkward the romance between him and Mary was

You still can’t get me to say this is a bad movie, especially when viewed as its own work and not through a lens clouded by its predecessors. But I am revising my rating down by half a star since first seeing this more than a decade ago because there remain some glaring weaknesses, chief among them the improbable rise of Vincent from absolute nobody to Don over the course of the film. Andy Garcia gives a great performance, but…

I like this movie quite a lot — and it was my first time watching the “Coda” director’s cut. I’m not at all distracted by Sofia Coppola, and only slightly distracted by Al Pacino’s hair. The production quality (cinematography, etc.) is, once again, stellar, so even if the story lacks the monumental depth of the first two, it’s still far better than most of the epic crime movies than were in vogue around the same time.

I re-watched this as Godfather: Coda and was hoping it would improve my opinion of it. I actually hated it even more overall, down from thinking it was alright. There are some good editing decisions made, such as placing the Vatican scene at the beginning. But changes to the ending and some baffling title choices prevent this from being the definitive version. It would have a better chance if the preceding 2 films weren’t masterpieces. The cousin romance sub-plot is really a drag. Say what you will about Sofia Coppola’s performance, but it’s the story and script that is the problem here.

there’s something strangely sad about watching this after the first two, because you can feel the weight of the legacy in almost every scene, but the movie never quite manages to carry it. the biggest problem for me is the writing. michael’s story should have been the perfect tragic conclusion to the corleone saga, but instead the film spends so much time introducing new characters and new conflicts that the emotional focus gets diluted. the first two films felt deeply…
