In a framing device that screams “Tom Green became very, very popular sometime between filming and postproduction,” a minor character played by Tom Green narrates this movie. Good? Bad? What ultimately matters about this movie is that the nude scene featuring Amy Smart was discussed in hushed and reverential tones on the schoolyard when I was in sixth grade.

You just had to be there. American Pie and Road Trip kicked off a tidal wave of raunchy stoner teen comedies the likes hadn’t been seen since the 1980’s. It’s not my favorite of the lot but still pretty damn entertaining.

I graduated from UGA a couple months ago and was having major fomo so I turned this on. All this just to realize that they filmed parts of this on UGA’s campus 26 years ago. Insanely cool, but also wow major coincidence.

Joaquin couldn’t do it. Zach Galifianakis couldn’’t do it. Not even the goat Billy Bob Thornton could do it. Only Tom Green can elevate the Todd Phillips movie.

I watched this movie many times back when it first came out and again with my son and his college roommate. Both enjoyed it, to me that says it stands the test of time. It was a good story, graphic humor, and of course, some preposterous situations. All the makings of a crazy comedy. Aw man you know damn well I love a good 2000s comedy. The boys are in absolute hilarious situations and it’s everything I ever wanted in a road trip movie. Did I enjoy it? Yup. Is it worth the employee pass? Would’ve been nice to see Amy Smart on the big screen oooweee.

DIVERTIDA. Genuinamente graciosa y de forma consistente, claramente el humor es rancio y se basa en la sexualidad. Pero igual le pega mucho. Me da mucha gracia que los personajes sean todos enfermos y se viva en una realidad absurda pero no tan exagerado; buena peli para desconectar un rato y que la mayor preocupación sea pasar un examen. La temática de amigos viajando siempre copa, más cuando todos tienen una personalidad interesante. Por suerte, no se mantuvieron en el humor de burlarse del desgraciado, y la burla a los israelíes siempre es bienvenida. Está por arriba de cualquier American Pie.

Never seen it before, and yet tough to see it with fresh eyes, as it has so many tropes of frat-pack comedies of the era (though I remember that when it came out I already assumed the formulaic/tropey worst). And yes, it’s exactly what you think it is. I also wasn’t sold (at the time) on the shtick of rising comedic curiosity Tom Green. Acting ‘weird’ didn’t seem that clever (or funny) to me, yet it also seemed a bit desperate…
