Paid for two tickets in 2005. Still the most embarrassed I ever was saying a movie’s title at the box office counter. “Two for Boogeyman, please.”

Bottom of the barrel CG, jumpscare and TV actor-filled generic PG-13 studio horror. A tedious 90 minutes of a terrible actor twitching and being petrified of closets. I’m not sure what’s worse – his acting or his haircut. Did he cut those bangs himself? Aside from the terrible acting and haircut, there’s a lot of other odd choices made in this movie including strange plot, cinematography and editing choices such as weird camera angles and shots that look like the lens is smeared with Vaseline for no reason. There’s multiple scenes with strobing lights where you can see that the lights in the room are staying lit and not flickering. Where are the strobing lights coming from? It’s also weird…

Boogeyman is one of the most boring ,energy sucking horror films I’ve seen. It’s not thrilling, imaginative or scary. I dont know how they managed to mess up a simple good idea, they could’ve done some creative things here but this is a wasted effort. What really puzzles me is how they made sequels to this, who want want more after seeing this first one.

That was painfully boring. Made 90 minutes feel like 120. So much shit was happening at the end, I had no idea what I was supposed to be paying attention to. Now onto the two sequels. YES, TWO SEQUELS.

I really love me some shitty teen horror! I watch this every so often and can barely remember what happens from one viewing to the next so maybe that’s why I don’t get tired of it, even if it’s because this whole movie just doesn’t make much sense and therefore literally not memorable. This is a hot mess with alternating periods of slow burn style and frenetic editing, but it has that dreary winter blue grey look that I love so much plus a haunted house setting so it absolutely gets a pass in every other department. Not a completely blind pass, but enough of one to keep me coming back. Let’s face it: you can be empty and soulless and as long as you’ve got that look I love babe, you’re fabulous. That’s just how it goes.

When Tim was a boy he had a Boogeyman, a creature of folklore that he believed was in his room hiding in the closet. Now a young man, it’s been sixteen years since the thing killed his father leaving no trace of his body behind. He’s told the story before but most believe that he just created an excuse for this father abandoning him and his family. After the death of his mother he returns to his childhood home to discover the thing has returned as well. The early 2000s are when Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures production company came to be resulting in a string of films that have mostly been monetarily successful. Boogeyman was the second film they…

Finally got this one on dvd it’s such a long time since i’ve seen it last, i used to watch it a lot growing up with my best friends. I still love this movie so much it’s so entertaining and everyone did such an amazing job acting wise, yes some digital effects look outdated but i like that sometimes. What i like about this dvd that i own is that it had some special features there is some videos on how they did the visual effects and there is an alternative ending which i kinda like more then the original ending. Overall if you’re nostalgic to 00’s you should see this movie asap it’s worth a watch.

I don’t know why every time that I try to watch this it feels like hours on hours and dreadfully boring. I’ve now tried so many different times to like this movie but I just can’t get into it enough. It’s so slow and annoying!! Like it’s honestly not even scary. Should be called the BoringMan 🙄 so much unnecessary stalling family drama. This movie almost makes you confused with what’s going on but I’ve watched it enough times to understand it but still hate it…. I really do prefer the sequels tho

A Supernatural coded, 2000’s Hot Topic emo-core, paranormal monster-in-the-closet chiller with a spattering of mind-bending logic written by Eric Kripke and produced by Sam Raimi? If I had seen this earlier in life I would have been OBSESSED. And it has 2 sequels? Bring ‘em on.

maybe it’s the diet of trashy mainstream 00s horror I grew up with, but everything about this one really sat well with me. from the blue-tinted color grading to the dutch angles to the manic editing to the logically-deficient plot,, everything added up to a richly dark mood piece. Maybe the Boogeyman is just an excuse for some spooks, and what’s wrong with that? there’s nothing revelatory, nothing remotely deep, and yet it has charm in its simplicity. how could i not like something so open, so genuine about its intentions?

For as long as I can remember folks have advised me to steer clear of any horror movies — and there are many — entitled The Boogeyman, and this one was the predominant offender. I recall dismissals due to an abundance of jump scares & poorly rendered CGI, to which I now rebut: the jump scares are minimal but effective and the CGI… well, that’s pretty bad but only present toward the end. The majority of the screentime is devoted…

The opening scene is pretty scary. Especially for a kid. The rest is a little muddled. Definitely needed the story tightened up. Dump the sequence with the girlfriends family. More backstory with the little girl. The uncle seemed extraneous. I would have cast the lead with one of the Supernatural guys. That would have been perfect.

Okay… Hear me out, but this is low-key prototype Supernatural and yes I mean the tv series. I know this got rewrites from the original story, BUT as soooooon as I saw Kripke’s name at the end credits I was like I fucking knew it. This REEKED OF IT. Oh okay kid witnesses a parents death at a young age by hands of supernatural/demonic force 🤓☝🏻👀 um I think I know where I’ve seen that before. Even the animation on…

This was just really boring. It’s a pretty run-of-the-mill movie using horror as a way to process trauma, with half-assed messaging. The scares are dull and the plot is predictable. The editing and zooms make every shot worse. I was so lost by the end because of how incomprehensible the editing was. So many quick cuts and shaky cam.The creature design is so ugly, I couldn’t look at the screen. Sky McCole Bartusiak gives the best performance in the movie.

This flick doesn’t know the definition of subtle. The style is headache-inducing, the characters are non-existent, and the effects are beyond laughably bad. I saw the trailer at a formative age, and it lingered in the back of my mind for twenty years. I want that time back, please. Creating Supernatural was Kripke’s only saving grace.

i fully believe more than half of the movie was tim approaching things slowly then having a flashback then approaching other things slowly. point and click game played by somebody that doesnt have a mouse. i appreciated the deranged sfx the couple times you do get to see the boogeyman. its a nothing movie but so much so that it looped around into being a little charming. like aww anyone could write this.. isnt that sweet
-

What a dull, deflated movie. On paper, I actually enjoy the premise, but it is completely wasted here. Every single scare is replaced by unintentional laughter. This is just a shade or two away from parody.

Boogeyman was not my favourite horror film to say the least, I just found myself sitting there most of the time thinking when is this over because I was getting so bored I know the whole point of the boogeyman is for him to lurk in the shadows but I wanted to see him at least a little bit do not get me wrong, some of the scares did make me jump and towards the end it actually got pretty…

unfortunately this movie was a snoozefest for me. i wasn’t super captivated at all and kept looking at my phone because i was bored. a good movie makes me want to stare at the screen so i didn’t miss anything, but this one didn’t do that. the cgi effects were cheesy and the “monster” was painful to look at in the sense that it was not well done at all. very fake looking, but I’ll chalk that up to when…

Good lord, this is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I swear I remember reading somewhere this was better than its reputation preceded. The DVD cover haunted me in video rental stores as a child, too. I’m not sure if I can think of a single positive aspect. Not even funny-bad, just bad.

Some fun direction here and there, and Barry Watson was a solid lead, there was just nothing remarkable in terms of story/characters. Pretty cool house though. Biggest drawback for me was it was just way too reliant on jumpscares and making the music really loud to scare you. I found that actually made it difficult to watch cuz I had to keep leaping to the remote to turn the volume down, then back up again. It was like an extreme…

First rewatch. I saw this back in the day, but remembered nothing from it. Even though I remembered it not being very good, I wanted to see it again to refresh my memory, and seeing that Sam Raimi produced it gave me a bit of retroactive hope. Somehow, though, it was considerably worse than I even remembered it being. I knew it wasn’t good, but goddamn, it’s terrible! It’s not only bad, it’s boring and hideous. It’s all washed out for some reason, and nothing even happens in it. Why Raimi wanted any part of this is mind-boggling to me. It’s a complete nothing movie.

I would have liked if this had more Boogeyman screentime and less ‘nervous guy navigating life’, but there was still a proper supernatural presence and some really well filmed parts that drew you in. Not a bad plotline… it just didn’t involve the Boogs enough, in my opinion. Still cool for a mid 2000s horror! A friend recommended the sequels, so I’ll give them a go.

Sam Raimi why did you put your name on this? I love a good urban legend/folklore based horror movie, especially one that centers on fears we inherit as children. The universal nature of kids being afraid of the closet/monster under the bed/things that go bump in the night should make for a movie that is at least a little interesting. But this ain’t it! Acting was never above sub-par, lighting was blown the fuck out, the CGI is from 2005…

Eldest son from 7th Heaven is still afraid of the boogeyman which is not played by his on screen father Stephen Collins, but knowing what we know now, would have been perfect.
- Synopsis
- Every culture has one – the horrible monster fueling young children's nightmares. But for Tim, the Boogeyman still lives in his memories as a creature that devoured his father 16 years ago. Is the Boogeyman real, or did Tim make it up to explain why his father abandoned his family?
