“Call me the trash heap from Fraggle Rock.” Objectively, this is a terrible movie. Yet, I laughed out loud twice, including once in the final credits. It gets a bonus star for the Fraggle Rock line.

As far as I know, Netflix’s slight but undeniably funny “Little Brother” is the first streaming movie in which Michelle Monaghan is caught tonguing John Cena’s butthole on the side of a public road in suburban New Jersey (their characters’ teenage sons happen to drive by at just the wrong time), but at this point I’d probably have to believe you if you told me it wasn’t. This was good? I’m unsure what people are looking for when they watch this but I got pretty much exactly what I wanted/expected. Eric Andre and John Cena are two of my absolute favorites and they work well together. A good old raunchy R rated comedy is just what you need sometimes

little brother really said “what if emotional neglect, unresolved childhood trauma, and the most unhinged man alive lived under the same roof” and somehow made it a comedy. 😭 not the funniest thing ever, but eric andré was absolutely carrying. the movie is predictable as hell, but i laughed enough to forgive it. john cena being the exhausted straight man while everything around him slowly falls apart was probably the best part. messy, stupid, occasionally hilarious. exactly the kind of movie you watch with zero expectations and leave thinking “well… that was something.”

Little Brother has everything needed to be a comedy classic except for a good script. Everyone nails their delivery and characters. Cena should 1000% be utilized as a put upon curmudgeon far more often, and Andre can knock line readings out of the park as expected. Ego Nwodim is absolutely fantastic, and her rhythm with Caleb Heston is terrific. Michelle Monaghan does a great job of grounding the story. Really, every actor here deserves some great praise. What’s a shame…

This movie was a lot funnier than I thought it would be. Anytime I hear straight to streaming comedy, it makers me shutter because most of them are not funny. Movies like Ladies First, Balls Up, and Kind of Pregnant come to mind. John Cena is one of my favorite comedic actors now and he had great chemistry with Eric Andre. Usually gross-out-humor doesn’t make me laugh, but it was funny in this movie, because they did not rely on it. Overall, the movie was funny and worth a watch and better than the rating it has on both letterboxd and rotten tomatoes.

This was a pretty nuts comedy that did hit pretty well with the funny stuff. The emotional message moments at the end though felt completely out of place after how insane it was getting there. Just impossible to take those life lessons about family or whatever seriously here, and it made it start to feel too formulaic.

I initially didn’t want to watch this because I didn’t want to see a generic comedy, but this one was actually really fun! I’m used to Eric Andre as his prank show character, but he actually does a really good job at bringing a similar but unique character to his role. The character struggles in this are really entertaining to see develop. Eric Andre’s character is just like so fuckin dumb, but his emotional intelligence and earnest respect is so high that you just love him. 9/10 high 9/10 sober
